I am sure you all discussed this at length previously but the Election Count Act recently passed was because the original 1887 Electoral Count Act was not clear and was open to interpretation. If it isn't unconstitutional, it is constitutional. Trump was doing what they all do. Use the murkiness of the law against itself. That is not insurrection at all.

Yes it is. He was trying to use that legal vagueness to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power and stay in power after he lost the election. That is a coup. The entire intent of the Electoral Count Act was to prevent that avenue of attack on our republic after it was done by the South in 1876 and clarify that the VP's role is purely ceremonial. It's just worded badly by our modern standards.

You say nothing happened because Pence refused to go along with it. What if he hadn't? And Trump did use force to try to get his way, that's what the entire Jan 6th riot was. A last-ditch effort to either pressure Pence into doing it or get him removed because of a security threat so Senate Pro Tempore Chuck Grassley could do it. They were chanting 'Hang Mike Pence!' not 'Protest peacefully!'
