Cats vs Vols Top 10 viewership game

Let me ask a stupid question that I’ve wondered for years. How do they know how many people watched something?
Not sure if Nielsen is still a thing, but that’s how they did it back in the day. But the graphic says on ESPN platforms so that is easier to track.

Although for years I’ve always thought the government put a camera in my VCR so maybe that too.

Nielsen is still a thing. They sent me something last year, asking me to go online and fill out the info on what I watch. I used to get the requests from them most years, but it was the first time since I moved 8 years ago.

Generally speaking, this is when you start to see college basketball ratings increase, as both college football and NFL are over.

Casual fans will now start turning their attention to college basketball over the next 1.5 months.

It is always funny/interesting to see by how much the NCAA Tournament outperforms the NBA playoffs, and how the FF/championship outperforms the NBA Finals.

It's not a stupid question at all.

A survey/research company (like Nielsen) asks people to be transparent about what they watch and allow them to monitor it. They can do this in several ways, which is a another topic. Then the company chooses a group of people who geographically and demographically are representative of the area in which they are monitoring. If they tabulate enough results from the test group they approved, the results become representative of the geographic area as a whole. For example, if they surveyed 1,000 people in Kentucky that are demographically, racially, etc. representative of the entire state, then they can project viewership to the entire population.

I thought everybody knew that Bill Gates put a mini camera in the Covid vaccine so the government could track everything we do .
