Back in the mid-80s when the gay (I'll use that term to be nice) movement started to crank up, we were members of First Baptist Atlanta which was located in midtown Atlanta. Dr. Charles Stanley. Church was located only a mile or so from what was at that time where a lot of them lived. Dr. Stanley was, and I'm sure still is, anti gay. As was the Southern Baptist Convention...of which at the time he was the President of. I can remember walking into church with demonstrators out on the sidewalks, the walks leading to the church doors, at the church doors yelling and screaming at the members as they went into church. Some of the most vile, hateful things I've ever heard. Fortunately they did not go inside....but that was the 80s and today in 2022 things are much worse.......

This is absolutely incredible on so many levels.

1) The utter delusion to think in today's age you're going to be making this especially as a journalist. The times of making a decent living as a journalist are long gone unless you're a broadcast journalist which most of the time requires you to be very attractive. A simple google search of average salaries or go look on indeed to see what the pay is.

A local newspaper in a nearby county was hiring a full-time sports writer for their beat. Want to know what the wage was for this full-time job? $14 an hour. $14 AN HOUR. Even in the bigger publications if you're hoping to get freelance work which is a ridiculous amount of work, luck, and networking to get, you might get $200 an article.

When I went back to school, we had a former student of the professor come in and she worked at The Hill, I believe. Her salary was high 30s, I believe. Anyone worth their salt in that field usually leaves to go to public relations where the money is much higher.

2) HOW DOES A PARENT NOT GO OVER THIS WITH THEIR KID BEFORE THEY MAKE THIS DECISION? There is a huge disconnect here. I know the school will lie to you to give you false hope but where the hell are the parents in this situation? This serious delusion shows that there is nothing but lies, false promises, and a complete lack of research. You're not making this type of money. I know people with a masters degree in a variety of non liberal arts fields who are only making $40K-50sK. You're not getting six figures unless you're in a very few fields that the university system is offering degrees in.

That can be possible with the next generation. However the current and previous ones were mostly parented by either 1) non graduates that broke their back at work or 2) graduates that did actually earn a significantly better wage.

It all changed fairly quickly and with disastrous consequences. Colleges were the culprit because they started accepting any and every one while cranking up the price. The result was quickly saturated market with purchased degrees and massive debt
