Pitino came when we had a postseason ban and our tv time was screwed up. No top recruits wanted to come.

Cal came to an NBA player on the roster.

That was the big part of the "crooked officials" I was speaking of.

The last foul on Issel was criminal. Once he fouled out, we had no chance against the two seven footers, Artis Gilmore and Pembroke Burrows.

I LoL at these young posters on here who think the players and teams are better now than they were then, especially in the 90's when Pitino was coaching.
Shaq, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Robert Horry, Alan Houston, Derrick Key, Rauf aka Martin, Corliss Williamson, Scotty Thurman,... the list of NBA players from the 90's is a long one. And most of them didn't play for UK.

Dan Issel Sr year was my first season. He will always be my favorite player. Man made a career with an 8th grade head fake. 33 or 34 a game. He didn't come out of blowout games bc he helped start preseason running program. Those we're the days .. sports wise

Pitino worked his ass off to outcoach the other side every minute of every game. He took it personally and did whatever it took to outwork the other guy. And his players followed his lead.

Cal may have been more like that in his youth, I don't know, but he's never been that way here at UK.

And the SEC is a much tougher conference now than when Pitino was at UK. About the only team worth their salt beside UK was Arkansas. So probably not fair for Cal because Pitino had much easier teams to play in the SEC.
