I didn’t read the entire thread but wanted to comment on the “If Dick never left”. Yes, he would have probably 4 titles, maybe more.

Here is my reasoning: dude was absolutely at the top of his game, he didn’t even get to reap the benefits of the dominance that 1996 Cats unleashed on the CBB world. The only reason his recruiting “fell off” was because nobody expected him to stay. In the hypothetical that he never left, that wouldn’t be a problem and any and everybody would have signed up to play for him.

Also, deleted or not(LMAO UL), he did win a title at freaking UL and that ain’t easy. Also, he was the MAN in Camelot, much like JFK, nobody cared who he boned, just win and win he did. Cheating would have never happened because he wouldn’t have needed to.

Now, I am going into throw up for so much positive stuff said about that POS.

UK gave Pitino a huge leg up? Wrong. Pitino resurrected the freaking program. He WAS UK. Had he stayed at UK and had the talent that Cal has had, we're not sitting here as a former winningest program of all time, and multiple additional NCAA titles. He was egged on and on in that game, probably by people who used to claim to be his fans. He's one of THE most competitive coaches that ever lived. Unlike our coach who's happy with 2 bigs and Ellen's cookies. Wish the man well, be thankful for what he did for UK instead of trying to save face for whatever.

Are you talking the cheating? No way in hell that happens here. For one, he was the coach right during/after probation, no way UK would let ANYTHING happen back to back. NCAA would have literally killed the program.

Also, he wouldn’t have to. The only reason he didn’t crush recruiting like he could have was because everyone knew he was gonna go to the NBA. If he was here for the long haul like Cal has been(10-20 years), that point would be moot. UK had a shitty, shitty, shitty NBA pedigree really until Cal got here. I think that would be drastically different, especially early 2000’s if the Crypt Keeper never left.

And listen, I hate the man. Not for some moral reason or anything like that. I don’t judge until I walk in another man’s shoes and all the fake and money, man, I wouldn’t be an angel. I hate him because he’s an idiot.

For one, his ego. Damn his ego, at least Cal learned with the Nets. It took Pitino twice to learn that he was a college coach. I 100000 percent believe that if Dick never left UK, people would be saying Coach K who? And he would be considered on par with Rupp in UK legend.

Also, we wouldn’t have had Tubby and those pathetic years. I would miss some players like Bogans, Prince, Hayes, Rondo but I choose to believe they would be here anyways lol. We would have hit 2000K wins at least 5 years earlier, KU(it was UNC at the time, if I remember correctly) would be so far behind in wins it wouldn’t even matter.

And how is Pitino "some dude they don't know". He's literally one of the most well known figures in UK history and in CBB.

That would be like someone claiming to be a huge Metallica fan and not recognizing Lars Ulrich. Or being a huge rock fan and not recognizing Slash from Guns & Roses.

Like Pitino or hate him, anyone who knows anything about Kentucky basketball knows that Pitino was hired at a time when it is unlikely that anyone else could have prevented UK from becoming the SMU of college basketball. The penalties dished out to UK would have destroyed almost anyone else. Pitino kept UK relevant during a tough period without a bunch of 5-star athletes.

It goes without saying that Pitino deserved the punishment that he has received. However, it goes without saying that he saved Kentucky basketball. His dirty deeds after he departed UK doesn't change what he did for Kentucky while here.
