Pretty petty / ill timed comment from Rick . Attention seeking .
... truth stings if you're blind to it.Frickin nonsense!!
I doubt that, Rick is a Sheppard family fan. Shep is one of the best college players this year. Despite what anyone thinks of Rick, he is giving props to a UK player that earned it.He was probably flipping the bird while typing that.
Can we assume you can throw stones because you are without sin?Pitino is an amazing man. Considering at his age he has the dexterity to post this tweet while atop a prostitute is simply remarkable.
Yeah, I agree with you. Cal did praise Reed, by the way. I just watched the post-game interview. Early in the interview, he was bragging on Reed, said "He just plays to win." And then he went on about not fouling at the end or calling timeout. But then he came back to the original question about Reed and said, "He played unbelievable..." and then he said "He made some ridiculous plays." So, he did compliment Reed. But I agree with you, he uses these media opportunities to build up the guys he thinks need to hear some positive comments, because he knows they're not getting as much positivity from anyone else around the team. Media members are on those players. And look on this forum and you'll see Wagner gets dogged on here regularly.Everyone knows I can’t stand Triple C. Despise him … but … Reed plays so smart, sees things before they even happen. I think Reed knows Cal loves his game but doesn’t have to flaunt it because Reed is like a coach on the floor and a few of our other guys need to be praised a little to get the best out of them.
Was that Shep or Mills? Either way, I wasn't too bent out of shape over it. Players should support their old coaches, so long as they don't turn their back on the program to do it.I think years back Jeff Sheppard said something about supporting Pitino at the height of the UL/UK rivalry, it raised a few eyebrows in the state.
He was probably flipping the bird while typing that.
actually I looked it up and he was saying he wasn't a fan of Calipari's one and done , This was in 2013 when his one and done was 7 years old.Was that Shep or Mills? Either way, I wasn't too bent out of shape over it. Players should support their old coaches, so long as they don't turn their back on the program to do it.
If DJ had that game he would have talked about him nonstop the whole post game. I’m not a Cal hater but is obvious he has his favorites. Those favorites are usually his highest rated recruits. Promises are made to their camps. Reed and dilly outplaying them puts him over a barrel. Plain and simple. He can’t keep his promises to them and start Reed, Dilly and Z. He CHOOSES to keep those promises at the expense of putting the best players on the floor.Nice to have a UK Coach recognize and compliment his greatness while the current coach rarely does, in fact goes out of his way to downplay or ignore

Reed is not one of his five stars he hast to look good you know that!!Nice to have a UK Coach recognize and compliment his greatness while the current coach rarely does, in fact goes out of his way to downplay or ignore
What a dumb commentNice to have a UK Coach recognize and compliment his greatness while the current coach rarely does, in fact goes out of his way to downplay or ignore
SmhNice to have a UK Coach recognize and compliment his greatness while the current coach rarely does, in fact goes out of his way to downplay or ignore
Oh he looks pretty good Everytime Reed plays good. Wtf does it matter if 5 stars? You show low IQ when you post things like that. Do you honestly believe cal cares who makes him look good?Reed is not one of his five stars he hast to look good you know that!!
Have you ever thought maybe he talks about certain ones because they need to hear positive reinforcement? Why would you think he's talking to fans? A good coach knows who needs it and who doesn't. Rick Pitino was the master of this.If DJ had that game he would have talked about him nonstop the whole post game. I’m not a Cal hater but is obvious he has his favorites. Rick Pitino just thru his entire roster under the bus in a press conference. Basically said they screwed up evaluating cuz these guys suck. Lol. That’s not positive reinforcement.Have you ever thought maybe he talks about certain ones because they need to hear positive reinforcement? Why would you think he's talking to fans? So, that's how Cal thinks. Reed has a great support system. He not only has his family at every game, he gets praised by the fanbase and Cal gets attacked if he doesn't play enough. I was listening to the KSR postgame last night and there was a lady who called and was complaining about Reed not getting enough shots and upset that Dillingham takes bad shots, turns it over, and makes dumb fouls (and she's right about that). She wanted more of Reed. Matt Jones laughed at it a bit and says "You know, he played 35.5 out of 40 minutes and took 14 shots, and had the ball on every possession of the 2nd half." But she wants more. And that's how it is here, also. We want more of Reed Sheppard and less of DJ Wagner. Cal knows this too, so he tries to encourage the guys who aren't hearing that same kind of support.
He played unbelievable. He made some ridiculous plays.Yeah, I agree with you. Cal did praise Reed, by the way. I just watched the post-game interview. I was referring to the Pitino that was a good coach. Unlike most on here I know those days are over. He was mediocre at Louisville.Rick Pitino just thru his entire roster under the bus in a press conference. Basically said they screwed up evaluating cuz these guys suck. Lol. That’s not positive reinforcement.
You are very perceptive.Yeah, I agree with you. Cal did praise Reed, by the way. I just watched the post-game interview. Early in the interview, he was bragging on Reed, said "He just plays to win." Yep, you're right. I stand corrected. I just rewatched that interview. He said "he played unbelievable, Hubbard, he made some ridiculous plays." So, the only direct comment on Sheppard he made was "he plays to win." So, I was wrong on that. Sorry. He played unbelievable. He made some ridiculous plays.
Those were comments about Hubbard the Mississippi State player.
He said Hubbard in the middle of that but it was hard to hear.
No problem. I knew you wanted to be accurate with your comments.Yep, you're right. I stand corrected. I just rewatched that interview. He said "he played unbelievable, Hubbard, he made some ridiculous plays." So, the only direct comment on Sheppard he made was "he plays to win." So, I was wrong on that. Sorry.
How was he on the receiving end?Jeff was on the receiving end when P flipped Rupp off.
Cal is nothing more than a street agent. He said more positive things about Sheppard than Cal did in his entire presser. He didn't have to qualify his positive praise either. Meanwhile Cal was like: Reed made a bad pass.
But let's also not forget that DJ is coming back from an injury and used to shoot 40% from three. Just in cast anyone forgets, Cal will remind them 60 more times before the week is over.
Maybe. But we've seen plenty of times over the years where certain players have a much longer leash than others and Cal will go out of his way to heap praise on the chosen ones, even when they suck, while downplaying anything positive the others do.Cal knows Reed is about to be showered with praise by both the local and national media - and Reed deserves every bit of that praise. Cal knows Reed is going to be celebrated in the lockerroom and the team is going to go crazy for him.
Cal also knows he has a struggling DJ, struggling Edwards - and he needs both of those guys to play better if this team is going to make a deep postseason run.
No one on here has any clue whatsoever what Cal said to Reed after the game, or in his player meeting with him today. So to think Cal somehow mistreats or squanders Reed is absolute nonsense
How was he not is a better question. I was even on the receiving end and took it personally. Did you not?How was he on the receiving end?
You know, people always say that but how do we know he wasn’t giving that to a heckling fan ? I’m betting he was getting a lot of verbal abuse walking towards that tunnel, lol . I’m pretty confident that bird was intended for a heckling individual. There’s no way to prove either way because Pitino is the only one that knows and……….he lies .How was he not is a better question. I was even on the receiving end and took it personally. Did you not?
DJ never shot 40% from 3 point land at any level, Cal just makes shit up to protect his playerHe said more positive things about Sheppard than Cal did in his entire presser. He didn't have to qualify his positive praise either. Meanwhile Cal was like: Reed made a bad pass.

why do you guys make this shit upSo just to be sure, Cal didn’t complement Reed’s effort tonight after the game, but Rick Pitino celebrates Reed’s effort on X? Fantastic.
Pitino coached Jeff and am sure sees a lot of Jeff in Reed as most of us do.
Nothing wrong or strange at all with a Pitino compliment here.
Besides, it shows that he actually watches college basketball instead of Little House on the Prairie!
Maybe Cal could learn something if he watched other teams play.
Ya know, I think I've figured out why Cal is this way.
He feels like he NEEDS to praise certain players to help them stay positive and not lose their confidence.
Reed is so solid and reliable that Cal doesn't need to do that for him. Cal also knows that Reed can be coached hard and it not affect him.
Cal not praising Reed shows that Cal knows how mentally tough Reed is.
Cal always praises the guys who are struggling with their confidence.
