A la Mashburn, Wall, AD, etc...Of course it would be good if UK had some continuity with at least 7-8 returning players every year but I'm not sure you can do that with 5-star recruits. Most 5 star recruits expect to start and are NBA players a year later if they do start(and maybe if they don't start). At least the ones from out of state that don't start and aren't draft picks are now more likely to transfer than return.
In my opinion, UK shouldn't recruit five stars not from Kentucky unless our coaches expect them to start. I'm thinking if UK doesn't sign any more five star recruits they'll still have 1 or 2 freshman starters. I really don't want to go back to seeing 3 or more freshmen starting. Maybe I'll change my mind if Duke wins it all this year to "it don't matter at all" but for now I'd rather sign a big time portal player at the wing instead of another freshman.
The game has shifted due to the availability of players in the portal. There's only a handful of freshmen who can be significant difference makers.
The rest of freshmen are role players and development pieces to build continuity. They may improve and their roles roles significantly increase but teams have needs which most freshmen aren't ready to provide.
