Picked to finish 4th in SEC

I like it.

Better than starting top 5 and being predicted to win the league and then sitting at 9-3 and unranked going into conference play.

Cal does better as the hunter rather than the hunted.
How does he do being both?

How important is a regular season championship for you. Seems most pundits give us little chance for that. Our team is so unproven but has such great potential. I think a conference title would be a tremendous kick off to the post season.
I believe history saids we win titles when we finish at the top of the league. I can understand why Media and portions of the fan base is caution, Been rough

We definitely and Cal especially needs an SEC championship and tourney title. It’s been a long time and is the bare minimum for success here. This shows how much nobody even in the media respects him or his talent anymore.

Sad... and again confirms that sadly UK, after the past few seasons, has settled into mediocrity in the minds of most.

UT? TAM? Arkansas?
Barnes? Buzz? Bitty Baby?

Sheesh - it's tough to accept - but it's where Cal has us.
It’s where Cal has us…

Where we finish in the SEC is of no importance. That has nothing to do with the NBA and how many on this year’s team go on to The League.

Coach Rupp and Joe B. just rolled over.

Conference title would be nice but honestly the SEC tournament championship is more valuable for post season play(respite what Cal thinks of it) Tournament champs get a one or two line boost in seedings if they have a good regular season record. A team on a roll is better than coming in off a loss(unless you have won like 20 in a row and need a wake up call)

This is just false. Win the SEC regular season and get a 1 seed. It's that simple.

Yep

That's the expectation of Kentucky Basketball.

You win your conference championship and compete for national titles. You don't always have to win the natty, but you should be competing for it every year.

That's how I view season success.

Conference title (regular season/tourney)= Cake
Final Four= Icing
Natty= Candles are lit.

The issue with the SEC is just that the experience level is through the roof for most of these teams. Every team has an entire starting lineup of 3rd, 4th, and 5th year players, while we have just 2:

(4 of 5) Alabama - (1) 5th yr Sr, (3) Sr
(4 of 5) Arkansas - (1) 5th yr Sr, (3) Sr
(5 of 5) Auburn - (1) 5th yr Sr, (3) Sr, (1) Jr
(4 of 5) Florida - (2) 5th yr Sr, (2) Jr
(5 of 5) Georgia - (1) 5th yr Sr, (3) Sr, (1) Jr
(5 of 5) LSU - (5) Sr
(5 of 5) Miss St - (3) 5th yr Sr, (1) Sr, (1) Jr
(4 of 5) Ole Miss - (3) Sr, (1) Jr
(5 of 5) Missouri - (5) 5th yr Sr
(5 of 5) USC - (2) 5th yr Sr, (3) Sr
(5 of 5) UT - (3) 5th yr Sr, (2) Jr
(5 of 5) A&M - (2) 5th yr Sr, (1) Sr, (2) Jr
(4 of 5) Vandy - (3) 5th yr Sr, (1) Sr

Missouri cracks me up.

🙄

Anything to take it easy on our ball coach.

In other words, “let’s be ok with being mediocre, that’s just what UK is now”

Ready for calipari to be gone yesterday.

What Bass says is 100% true though. Once calipari leaves and UK doesn't go back to dominating the SEC like when it was a mid major conference I'll be here to tell you and others told ya so.

All that said, UK hasn't won it the last 3 seasons so need to find a way this year.

Seems nobody is buying in on this team. Maybe the disrespect can resurrect the Old Cal that was a killer
I honestly think it's more out of a disrespect for Cal than a disrespect for the players. It's about what Cal can do or can't do with them. Cal can't get out of his own way b/c he lets his arrogance interfere with proper coaching. Pundits are tired of buying into his hype only to be embarrassed for having done so when he crashes and burns. I really can't blame them and why I have little interest in pre-season rankings. I wish Cal would mellow out and just coach his team with an emphasis on keeping his mouth shut for the most part. JMO.

Anytime a UK team is picked to finish 4th in SEC then the result should be the Coach being let go. How far has UK fallen under this arse clown?

Cal has found a way to lose more than one game we weren’t supposed to. He does need superior talent to overcome his shortcomings.
^^^ NAILED IT!
As has become the norm lately, Calipari will find ways to lose multiple pre-conference games that we desperately need to build a solid resume for a higher seed in the NCAA-T.
He'll also manage to lose too many SEC games we desperately need before another fizzle in the post-season.
Bottomline, I don't see any Anthony Davis types on this roster. Calipari has proven he needs a roster stocked with NBA first-rounders to challenge for a championship.
Never forget 2015, if he couldn't win it with all that talent then, what will it take?

Vegas more bullish on UK than those polled.😉
According to the latest odds by DraftKings, the Cats have the second-best odds to bring home the conference title at +400, which is closely behind Tennessee, who currently sits at +300.

For the National Championship, Kentucky currently has the fourth-best odds at +1400. Schools ahead of them are Kansas (+1000), Duke (+1100), and Purdue (+1200).

Just remember that odds are set to entice bettors. They may naturally follow they strength of teams, but public perception changes those odds (often daily). So in reality, we're saying bettors like KY if the odds stay that low.

Excellent post. That puts things in perspective. Until the ball is thrown out and the games begin; we just won't know. The "our youth vs. their upper class experience" is the most serious concern I have about our chances.

But putting a positive spin on it for UK, they have two good upperclassmen in the starting lineup in shooting positions. Reeves obviously, but Mitchell looks like he’ll also be able to help space the floor from the PF spot and able to give UK a couple of 3s per game. Add to that the fact that the Center position is less of a skill position – you can often get by with mostly rebounding and defense from the Center spot – which bodes better for a freshman. Plus, regardless of their recruiting stars or draft projections, I think UK’s freshmen are further along in skill development than many 2G/SF freshmen that come through.

Not saying UK should be ranked higher at this point. I’m just saying I think they have a chance to be pretty good despite the lack of skill maturation and experience.

So you're saying there's a chance......

That might be true for the other P5 conferences, but it always seems like the NCAAT bracket is already set before the end of the SECT championship game. I’ll forever be salty after the 2016 SECT.
True the SECT championship is Sunday afternoon. The NCAAT bracket is pretty much set at that point.

I read that Florida beat Miami in a scrimmage over the weekend. Riley Kugel had 20 points and big man transfer Tyrese Samuel had 19. They may be better than we thought.

Alabama lost to TCU in a scrimmage. Freshman Sam Walters had 29 points and Hofstra transfer Estrada had 19.

It looks like Arkansas is going to play El Ellis a lot. He has been a key player in the scrimmages so far. Also Lawson and Davenport are looking better than I thought they would. I felt they got relegated down the bench when he got Mark and Battle (and Brazile is playing)

Auburn got a good one in Aden Holloway. It looks like he is the clear favorite to start at PG.

I think Ellis starts at PG.

Nearly every guard/wing on the roster has a legit case for playing time, no idea how Muss is going to distribute PT among them this year. The Purdue game will reveal a lot though.

I would like to see it but I keep not seeing it. About every two years lately his ego gets resurrected.

Cal, your ego is not helping. Resurrect your hunger.

I think everyone is sleeping on the Cats this year and I for one like it.
Not to be a smartasss but they been sleeping on us for a cpl years now. Sure they may rank us high and talk about our past and all that stuff, and Lunardi had us as his pick to win it all last year to start out which means nothing, but I just don't think anyone has honestly been taking UK seriously for a while. I mean maybe they do in spurts, but I want see us get more consistent and on a mission, and be together as a single unit team. Past few years it just always a sideshow or two going on. Just been miserable at times and keeps dwindling further and further away from greatness. I'd love for Cal and this team to b the ones to show the world that we back and open for business. I hope they do sleep on us and when they wake up they wiping the sleepy out their eyes while we accept that trophy.

I think alot of folks thought 20-21 was a fluke the same way I did. Then we bounce back nicely in 22 except the embarrassing postseason sucked. Then Calipari has noticably changed. Not trying to bash Cal btw. And... Plus I'm not gonna tell ya anything you've not read on here 1000x each day lol. But I just hope you're right buddy and they snoozing us on us.

I saw something on my computer last night that Tennessee had beaten Michigan State in an exhibition game. Usually teams of that caliber don’t play one another in exhibition games.

I expect to dominate the league so very important. If someone steps up and has a nice run a la Donovan at Florida so be it, but I fully expect the road to the sec title to run through Lexington. It seems that may be too much to ask again this season.

It was a charity game I believe, it's been happening more lately.
