MJ said Cal asked Tai if he wanted to play late in the UGA game and he said no. So, Tai must feel he is not ready.

Smart decision by Wynyard. The kid is adjusting to college life, to living in a new country. He just started working out in January, whereas the rest of the team has been working together since the summer. Say it however you want. Maybe Wynyard feels he isn't ready yet. More likely, he sees Humphries and Labissiere are ahead of him in the playing rotation. If I was Wynyard, and I wanted to become the best I can be, and it's February and I am offered a chance to play mop-up minutes for 3 weeks, I would far rather save the extra year of eligibility and start fresh next year at the same time everyone else starts working out. The competition will be heavy again next year, but a 6-10 guy with Wynyard's physical strength and international competitive experience is going to see the floor.

Yeah, I have no problem with it but you'd think they would have already discussed it.

Not sure why he is here??? Or at least why come in middle of the year?? Has served no purpose whatsoever.

The way Cal told it Tai did not tell him no, but when Cal asked him if he was ready to go in the game he could see a look of uneasiness on Tai's face and knew he didn't want to because of wanting a red shirt or wasn't ready.

God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts; who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er land and ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and wait.

He will never play here...gonna get recruited right over plus he still has Humphries to get over. Not knocking the kid whatsoever, nothing personal, i just don't think he ever plays

I don't think the kid had any intention of playing this season, but wanted to get a half season of practice, bonding with teammates, and getting acclimated to school. But somewhere along the way, it started getting bandied about that he might play (probably once it became clear Skal wasn't as advertised), and now he might be feeling the pressure to actually play before he is ready. I think it's better that he doesn't try, so that he can have 4 full years if he wants. My bet is that at some point along the way he will end up transferring.

He is a college kid, how about you get off his junk and let him enjoy his freshman year.

This guy right here is a perfect example of why we all need to step back and get some perspective on life and remember these ARE just kids after all.

He is here to adjust to life in America and to get a head start on training for next season. Would you rather he come in JUne and he wayyy behind or come now and by June be a seasoned player , at least practice wise. I can't believe I had to explain that...

He should've played this year. Won't see any playing time next year.
I think he'll see at least mop up minutes
Tai, I think, is more of a four year guy anyway. Sure he'll be playing behind the other bigs coming in, but he'll also be learning; could be a Willis or Jorts kind of thing. Great insurance against injury or someone leaving before they should.

Got criticism a week ago when I suggested he must not be very good or a project as he can't get minutes on a team where there is an obvious front line need. Turns out, I was correct. Now, I didn't say eventually he won't be great, who knows. But, where many believed he was going to be this instant impact or at least be part of a solution, if he had the skills necessary at present he would be out there. Seems now the best decision would be the redshirt. Tell me if he was similar to Jarnell Stokes who became eligible mid-season at Tenn., he wouldn't be playing on our team.

Wait ...so you think getting these months of learning our system and getting daily practice time against UK competition, as well as daily workout time with UK's facilities, as well as a semester of college education and adjustment behind him ...as opposed to just sitting at home and doing nothing ..."has served no purpose whatsoever"?

That's idiotic. If you can't see the value of what he's doing in helping him in the future then I question whether you have any understanding of what it takes to succeed in life. Wynyard's gonna come in next fall as one of the best prepared freshmen in the country because of what he's doing right now.

Every game it is the same question...why didnt Tai play??? Fans really can't expect him to come here in December and just walk out and say..."here i am..put me in" doesnt work that way...unless you have Cousins game. Which obviously he doesnt. The people on this board amaze me. I have an opinion about the kid..that's what it is..an opinion...does not make me right...but it certainly does not make you guys correct calling me a piece of crap...then in the end i defend myself and i get banned but the name callers go right on posting...you dont agree with me fine...leave the name calling in grade school

I think this is mostly BS and Cal being Cal. He's pretty prone to hyperbole and is a bit full of crap.

I do think Cal may know Tai will redshirt, and Tai probably knows that's in his best interest. I just dont buy that whole, went down the bench and saw it in his eyes stuff. It's a basketball game. Not a movie.

That may be one of the dumbest posts of the year. Maybe he wanted to adjust to college life in a Foreign Country, learn Cal;s system so he is ahead of the incoming Freshman, get stronger and in better shape, get some class credits so he can get his degree in less than 3 calendar years and finish his Masters in 4 to 4.5 years.

Dude you are a piece of shit. He is a college kid, how about you get off his junk and let him enjoy his freshman year.

Exactly right, except I might point out this really is not even his true "freshman year." Remember, he's the age of an American high school student, and originally wasn't supposed to start at UK until next year, but decided to come a bit early only because the NZ school year ends in December.

This is essentially just a pre-semester before his real college career begins next fall. It's ludicrous that we've got idiotic posters already declaring him a waste before his first full college year has even begun.

Maybe now people will shut up with the the "why doesn't Cal play Wynyard? It couldn't be any worse!" nonsense.

And bud, I've stuck up for you once or twice in the past when I think you're getting picked on unnecessarily, but that was kind of a bad post. The kid had finished high school a couple weeks when he came. Contributing much this year was never really the point. But he's been practicing with some guys that'll be here next year & learning the plays & such. It's gonna be a huge help with his learning curve for next season.
