Per MJ on the pregame, Winyard turned down the chance to play

Ulis has had some pretty bad takes but some of you guys are way too hard on him.

JMO.
Nope. Not hard enough evidently. He continuously has stupid thoughts, which is OK. He continuously posts them here, which is not. People are calling him an idiot out of love. They are trying to help him see who he is. Why don't you want people to help UMM? That's just cruel dude.

From a competitiveness standpoint it is a little concerning....any time you have a chance to get in and show what you got, you would like to see a kid jump at the chance. Obviously cal thought he was ready. Never heard of a kid turning down the chance to get in game

He should've played this year. Won't see any playing time next year.
That makes no sense, because it was never a choice between this year and next year. Whether or not Wynyard plays this year, he will still be back next year either way. If Wynyard played this year, it would only be a couple weeks of mop-up minutes playing behind Poythress, Labissiere, Humphries. To what end? People here have gotten so used to OADs that they think of every Kentucky player that way. But Poythress is a 4 year player. Lee, Willis, Hawkins will soon be 4 year players. Matthews will play here at least 3 years, maybe 4. Wynyard might or might not be a 4 year player, but he is smart to keep his options open instead of backing up Humphries and Labissiere for a couple of weeks. I disagree with you about next year. Wynyard is a strong post player with international playing experience. He is going to play. I am not nearly convinced that Calipari will have a scholarship available for Marques Bolden, so I rate the chances of Bolden coming here under 50-50. Wynyard's competition will be Lee, Humphries, Adebayo. Maybe Labissiere too, but all the tea leaves point to Labissiere's inner circle pushing him to come out for the draft or European ball to make them some money. Competing against Lee, Humphries, Adebayo, after an offseason of work, Wynyard will see the floor for significant minutes next year. He could even start, although that needs to be worked out in practice.

Could be he wants 4 full years in Blue which is fine by me.

If he had played poorly he would have been ripped for not red shirting.

I think he's a troll who mixes in enough reasonable takes and whines enough to get a bit of sympathy and support.

But I'm cynical like that.

Folks saying he could potentially be starting next year.....ok, I guess anything so possible but that is an extreme stretch to say the least

Who said that? I must have missed it somewhere.

I don't have anyone on ignore. Still haven't seen anyone call for him to start next year.

If he wants to play in the NBA, he must figure he needs all four years. What better way to prepare then competing against future NBA players.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

I actually agree with this. We need 3-4 year guys sprinkled in with our one and dones. We need these types at guard and in the post. It's honestly the key to success. It makes a well-rounded team. This is how titles are won. One and done talent leading the way, with 3-4 year players ready to give spot minutes. Happy for TW.

Way to be completely wrong mdlUK then turn to a technicality....yes one poster explicitly said then others are comparing him to a Jorts (starter). Again, it could happen, though it would be a long shot. Back to my original point, it just seems weird that a kid wouldn't be chomping at the bit to get Ina game. And justifying it that he is looking four years down the road is horse Hooy

Not sure why he is here??? Or at least why come in middle of the year?? Has served no purpose whatsoever.
I don't think I could disagree more. He is learning to play at this level. He is a big body for practice to help our guys who do play. Having a half year jump on his freshman year is extremely valuable. I'm not sure how you could miss all that.

Because his graduation cycle ends differently than here in the US. He finished in December. I guess he could have just hung out on the streets till next August instead.

! I haven't seen anyone say Tai will start next year and you offer ONE example that I can't find.

And I said people said the same crap about Jorts. I never said Tai would develop like him. He could but there's no guarantee.

Let's look at some poster efficiency ratings....Mdl, you seems to be a volume poster. Your like/post ratio is terrible. I can't understand why?!

Maybe now people will shut up with the the "why doesn't Cal play Wynyard? It couldn't be any worse!" nonsense.

And bud, I've stuck up for you once or twice in the past when I think you're getting picked on unnecessarily, but that was kind of a bad post. The kid had finished high school a couple weeks when he came. Contributing much this year was never really the point. But he's been practicing with some guys that'll be here next year & learning the plays & such. It's gonna be a huge help with his learning curve for next season.

Excellent post!!

Got criticism a week ago when I suggested he must not be very good or a project as he can't get minutes on a team where there is an obvious front line need. Turns out, I was correct. Now, I didn't say eventually he won't be great, who knows. But, where many believed he was going to be this instant impact or at least be part of a solution, if he had the skills necessary at present he would be out there. Seems now the best decision would be the redshirt. Tell me if he was similar to Jarnell Stokes who became eligible mid-season at Tenn., he wouldn't be playing on our team.

Wrong then, wrong now.

He will never play here...gonna get recruited right over plus he still has Humphries to get over. Not knocking the kid whatsoever, nothing personal, i just don't think he ever plays

Lol! Willis should transfer too. He'll never make it off the bench and will be recruited over. Just ask any Little Brothel fan.

FIFY

Anyone here that thinks he came here late for this year instead of early for next year, is a weak link. When people make fun of RR, YOU are the people they are talking about.
Me? I never said that. You have to be replying to the wrong poster by accident.

Totally disagree with this statement. Him being here has a ton of purpose. Both for him and the team. He is learning and growing even if we don't see it. We've had plenty of games where we've been in major foul trouble. Come Tourney time if push comes to shove he will at least have practiced against top notch competition. Also next year he will be miles ahead of his normal class so his experience will get him on the floor before them in some cases.

Him pounding away in the paint during practice has served to toughen up our interior bigs. Lee, Skal and Humphries has shown signs of improved toughness. Not a ton but they have improved. He has a purpose whether you see it or not.

Dude, this isn't North Carolina. He gets a jump on his classes. He gets time in practice to prepare for next season. All in all, a very astute move.

And he clearly fooled you, not that it's difficult to do that.

You don't know that! People said the same thing about Willis. Time will tell. Smart thing to red shirt! Kids can improve from year to year . We fans are way to impatient!

Every game it is the same question...why didnt Tai play??? Fans really can't expect him to come here in December and just walk out and say..."here i am..put me in" doesnt work that way...unless you have Cousins game. Which obviously he doesnt. The people on this board amaze me. I have an opinion about the kid..that's what it is..an opinion...does not make me right...but it certainly does not make you guys correct calling me a piece of crap...then in the end i defend myself and i get banned but the name callers go right on posting...you dont agree with me fine...leave the name calling in grade school

Ok, I'm going to try to help. No, you don't defend yourself. You lash out and add nothing to the conversation. You post repetitive threads. Your posts are often contradictory and don't reflect any prior thought. You make posts which have no context and fail completely to make a point. You even start threads like that leaving folks thoroughly perplexed as to what your point was or why the thread was started in the first place. This is an open invitation for people to go off on you. Then you pitch a fit when they do respond though you were the cause of it.

People are going to challenge your comments. If you are unprepared to deal with that, there is a simple solution. Don't comment.

When you publish to the world, the world is free to offer rebuttal and commentary.

Exactly right, except I might point out this really is not even his true "freshman year." Remember, he's the age of an American high school student, and originally wasn't supposed to start at UK until next year, but decided to come a bit early only because the NZ school year ends in December.

This is essentially just a pre-semester before his real college career begins next fall. It's ludicrous that we've got idiotic posters already declaring him a waste before his first full college year has even begun.

I believe I read somewhere that Cal offered scholarship without actually seeing him in person. Probably evaluated him from film.

He may not be as far along as Cal first thought. He needs to red shirt anyway.

So some of our fans say we need three to four year players. Then they gripe they will get recruited over

The same people bitch about poythress Miller Lee Skal for not living up to expectations All players we would have killed for ten years ago and would be focal point of our team ten years ago. But now we are so spoiled with Wall Davis boogie KAT when they don't pan out we wanna send them to the bench and still complain
