Out of Bounds play

Like I said, 99% don’t know when an in game adjustment is made and yall like to make false claims until I’m willing to provide video evidence proving how wrong you are. We run OOB plays every single season Cal has been here and in game adjustments are made all the time. I can and will prove you wrong upon request.

Until then, I’ll stay silent on this topic, since so many are angry at me for being willing to provide facts and not assumptions.

Have a nice day, little fellas.

We were missing our second best player and starting Pg. Try again, little guy.
So you actually ARE suggesting that without Wagner we didn't have the talent to match up with UNCW that day?

Keep digging that hole!

You know, It's ok to actually admit that Cal had a bad gameplan and wasn't able to make effective in-game adjustments to beat the mighty Seahawks. Every coach has bad days at the office.

I actually think Cal has done much better at game-planning since that game.

But to defend him relentlessly while ignoring the facts is juvenile. Now who's the little guy......LITTLE GUY! :)

If you knew basketball, you’d know in game adjustments doesn’t always result in a win.

Have a good day, little guy.

Not only do I know basketball, but I don't have to call people juvenile names in order to argue my points!

But to keep it on your level......Nanny Nanny Poo Poo!

Now back to you arguing that we didn't have enough talent to outplay UNCW that day. Awesome.

Couldn't even make it 5 minutes of "staying silent" on the topic. Also, WTF are you even doing on a message board arguing with other people during the middle of basketball season? Don't you have important, you know, "coaching things" to be doing?
And I'm intrigued by your obsession with other peoples' size. Napoleon Complex much, bro? Is that you, Mick?

I don't think pointing to an inbounds play ran 13 years ago proves your point. There are obviously things about the offense and coaching that have improved this year, whether it's running more inbounds plays or just the type of offense being run. I don't think that's debatable.

Whether it's due to Welch, Cal, or just having a team that's more able to execute the type of offense we're running is the main debate. And like all things in life, it's probably a mixture of all three of those.
Yep, you nailed it ukcatz. I completely agree. It's likely some mixture of all those things.

As for the guy wanting to prove me wrong, if I had said "Cal NEVER ran an inbounds play before this year," I'd definitely be wrong. He ran some occasionally but, as I said in my first post in this thread, it was about 90% of the time an entry pass to a big man holding off his defender and to his outside arm.

Regardless of all this, I'm happy to see some inbounds plays. Why argue? I just enjoy it. We don't have to prove anyone right or wrong.

I’m a History Teacher and currently in class. If you knew about coaching, you’d know HS coaches have real jobs as well.

Have a nice one, small fry.

My apologies, I just skimmed over your message and didn’t fully read. We definitely ran OOB plays before this year and in game adjustments are made all the time.

I don’t want to argue, I’m happy as can be with our team this year. The past is just that, the past. Let’s enjoy this team and enjoy winning #9 this year!

What is your data source for the comment that 99% can't tell when an adjustment is made? You know, since you are only providing facts and not assumptions.

And is switching to a zone an adjustment? What percentage can't tell when that happens?

As a retired teacher (and yes, sometimes coach, coach), it saddens me to learn that your kids are left to their own devices while in your class so their teacher can spend his/her time/energy/resources on belittling and agitating a message board community

No worries GoCats. I think we're all just enjoying this team. I'm not interested in the obsession so many have with Calipari, whether they want to condemn him or exonerate him game by game. (and I'm not accusing you of either extreme, just the general attitude of posters on this board) I know many have come to really dislike the man. Hate may be too strong a word, but it might be appropriate for some. I've never gotten to that point with him. I do think he needed to make some changes for his own sake and for the sake of the program. He has made those changes, and has had some help along the way, but that does not exonerate him for the last several years. Still, I'm certainly willing to give him some credit when it is due. He deserves some credit for the way this team is playing. He hired good coaches. He recruited good players. I'll take it. :D

A lot of assumptions in there and I’m sure you are well aware of what they say when you assume. 🙂

Have a nice day, little fella.

No doubt adjustments needed to be made and were made. My problem is when people try to act like we never ran plays in the past or in game adjustments were never made.

Another thing is that the assistants always get credit. Just like, “Kenny won those games”

The same people are now claiming, “Welch won those games.”

When he was at Memphis, Josh Pastener or however you spell his name won those games.

How is JP and KP doing coaching their teams without Cal and how is Cal doing without them? That answers most, if not all criticism.

I do agree with this post. The original post may not be by the greatest source (Van Gundy) but the thought is pretty accurate by the average fan. UK fans are smarter than average about the game, perhaps, but many don't see or understand what all is actually going on. They don't see adjustments very well and don't recognize a good out of bounds play. So, there is some truth to the meme posted here.

Someone else posted the Van Gundy meme after I said the same thing in different wording.

I will say, UK fans are much more knowledgeable than any other fan base I’ve encountered. It’s not a knock on fans, but most casual fans don’t recognize certain things during a game and that’s ok. But when they complain about the exact thing that they aren’t able to recognize, it’s frustrating to see.

It's almost...wait for it....wait for it....like he has players who can run and gun. The past three years we've had wheeler who can't shoot and oscar who's an anchor in the lane. You adjust your offense to your players strengths. He's running the exact same offense he ran with Monk and Fox. Go back and look.

Definitely not. Our ball movement is so much better its like watching an entirely different team. Fox and monk were amazing themselves but it was because they were just better and created their own. Same with Murray, Shai, etc.

This offense is sculpted in a way that keeps the ball moving and creates space on its own for the players to create and finish.

Yes, I agree with you. Calipari is a Hall of Fame coach for a reason. Sometimes I think people forget he took UMass (who hasn't done anything since he left there) to the Final Four before he ever took Memphis or UK to multiple Final Fours. He does deserve some credit. And to be fair, very few of us have ever seen a practice and even less have ever sat in a huddle during a timeout. We don't know who is doing or saying what in those practices or in-game timeouts. I agree that it's very hypocritical to blame the man for every loss but give no credit for any wins. Truth is, he doesn't deserve all the credit for the wins nor all the blame for the losses. And I hear someone replying... "but that's why he gets paid the big bucks." It's true, the buck stops here. But to be consistent, if you blame you must also give credit. Good discussion GoCats.

Here’s another fun fact. You’re an assistant coach, a school teacher, and an asshole. I’ve had one non volunteer coaching job in my lifetime and I was head coach and at a younger age than you but wanted more from life than teaching was going to offer so I went a different route. Many people, despite if they ever coached the game or not, grew up playing and are well schooled when it comes to common basketball knowledge. You trying to shit on everyone’s knowledge of the game is just quite laughable. Calling everyone little fella is also just pretty damn dumb. I have a daughter older than you, she’s 31. Best of luck in your coaching endeavors, you’re probably going to need all the luck you can get.

Thanks for the reply, little guy. I know you mustered up all your energy to make that post, so I’ll take it easy on you.

My teacher degree was required for me to become a coach, I’ve got some experience under my belt and I will be taking an assistant job at an NAIA school next season.

I wanted more out of life than a teaching degree could get me too, that’s why I put my coaching knowledge to work and now will be coaching college ball at the age of 29 next season. 🙂

What are your students doing today?

They definitely aren’t learning anything.

2.5 hour delay this morning and my first class of the day had zero students show up. And here you were assuming my students aren’t learning anything. 🙂

Have a nice one, small guy.

Damn...you got us all. It's Coach everybody! He's reincarnated himself as gocats-goherd...this time next year he'll be feeding the board all of UK's inside recruiting scoop he's managing to pick up as the number 3 man for Podunk, WV's local naia school.

My grammar isn’t perfect, but for you to be a former teacher, your grammar is embarrassing.

Now I’m being made fun of for coaching college basketball by people who never coached youth league. 😂 Gotta love the internet…

You sure talk a lot for someone who said they were don talking. And what are you doing on the internet arguing with people when you're supposed to be teaching a class? More of our tax dollars at work, eh?

2.5 hour delay along with no students in my first class. Then turn around and it’s already lunch time, actually it’s lunch time at the moment.

I live in WV, unless you live here too, your tax dollars aren’t being used.

Have a good one, little fella.

I would print all of this off and take it to the principal's office immediately. Have him give some of these guys that aren't coaches like you after-school detention.

Would you like to be proved wrong??? I can provide video of an inbounds play ran in 2010, your choice to back peddle now or let the video show how wrong you are???

Who are you again? I can show you years of us lobbing it over to a big near the sideline while he holds his defender off. And why does anyone wanna sit here and argue this shit anyway? The good news is that we are running more inbounds plays this year, and it's working.
