Our recruiting class as it is right now for next year is puzzling to me...

I wish people would believe in this staff, understand we recruit specific type players to fit the systems we run and they do a great job finding those types and developing them. Stop getting caught up in ratings and stars or freaking out with months to go and believe in what this staff is accomplishing. What more proof do we need that their process works?

This same thing occurred last year at the same time and we turned out okay.

We will continue to have a great deal of success in the transfer market

It's not all NIL. Used to be, Stoops put a huge premium on coaches that can recruit.
We've lost Sumrall, Schlarman, Grant, Clink.Boughnight. Wollford.
They've been replaced by pro assistants or promoted small college guys that are not experienced bringing in high talent.

Let the OC pick the transfer he wants for his offense. That’s what Coen did with Will L

Agree. I think that's been the plan since coen was hired. We should be able to draw some really good transfer at QB. I doubt there will be another prospect as talented but mishandled as Levis, but still can be great

Our last 3 starting QBs were transfers

Levis
Wilson
Johnson

I fully expect a high quality QB to portal here in Dec to complete for the '23 job in spring

We already have Hogan as well, and 2 guys developing in Sheron and Wade.

There are going to be a lot of former 4 & 5 star QBs on benches this season looking over at UK turning Will Levis into a marketing household name along with developing him into potential 1st rounder. And also see our very young surrounding star offensive talent.

We will be picking & choosing among elite QB, guaranteed

Who's to say Hogan can't be just that. pretty sure Allen left because Hogan had jumped him on the depth chart. Still need some depth and competition for the spot though. Hoping we get to see a healthy dose of Hogan this Saturday.

Levis made himself marketable with his personality, and he's a first rounder because Stoops decided to go to a pro-style offense that Levis is well suited for. Levis was largely listed as a middle of the pack QB when listing the best QB's in the SEC, but he's regarded as a first rounder because of the system. and that system is what's going to draw the players who have aspirations of playing at the next level and getting drafted. So it was a really great move by Stoops to go to a pro-style Offense.

Those of us who follow recruiting have been talking about this concerning situation for months.

Bad combination of several things:
-Heavy loss of super talented recruiting assistants like Sumrall & Clinksdale
-replaced by NFL guys with little experience recruiting
-no top rated QB recruit to be the leader of the class & draw in others
-our home territory of Ohio & Kentucky not blessed with a lot of SEC talent for 2023

And of course the elephant in the room, NIL, some of our opponents using it in blatant cheating way. While Barnhart insists on UK not use it beyond even ncaa restrictions. Our coaches are going into fights with both hands tied behind their backs.

I'm hopeful a great winning team helps us finish 2023 class strong. That is, if winning even matters to top rated kids these days, or does getting max cash instantly in hand.
If we continue to have a special season, you have to think we will be in discussion with some top transfers as well. With a stud QB transfer being the biggest need….

I've always been a self-proclaimed recruiting nudnik but I admit I've mellowed of late largely due to the portal. With recruiting, unless the guy is a JUCO, you get an 18y/o that likely needs developmental time in the program. With the portal you get a guy a little older, maybe with experience, that can help your team right away. As long as UK continues with the portal success they've had to date they'll be OK plus it gives Collins, White, Woodward a little more time to get established on the recruiting trail(still holding out hope Stewart will become an elite recruiter).

Does anyone have a good handle on which players are actually out of eligibility after this season? Ajian, J. Wright, Jacquez Jones, C. Rodriguez, Bates, Ruffolo, Poore, Goodfellow, Horsey, Manning - I believe that's what we are losing.

Could be but I don't think that's the plan. Says more about where we are than it does about him. We'll get a really top tier guy imo.

You understand this, and I understand this. Some commenters are just looking at our class ranking and UL's class ranking, then figuring we have a bad recruiting class on that simplistic basis.

Stoops has already addressed receivers and the defensive secondary. Grant Godfrey is a big get. By the time this is over, we will have a good offensive line class. The problem with this class is that Stoops does not have very many rides to give out. If we had a few more rides to give, this could turn into an amazing class in the fall. But I think Stoops has fallen in love a little bit with the portal. Who could blame him? Levis, TRob, Manning, and Smith are good players. Wandale was a game changer.

None of these guys that are backups are gonna be the starter next year, UK will get a big fish out of the portal, just hope that he is a Levis and not a bust, prob wouldn't hurt to get 2 actually and let em battle it out.

Recruiting is a years-long process and Mitch's NIL hesitancy is now coming home to roost since we were ill prepared in the first wave. Thankfully we are turning things around and simultaneously becoming one of the hottest names in the country. I trust Stoops and Marrow to leverage our current hype into recruiting flips and high level transfers to bridge the gap. Our big time youth movement will help as well.

Long term we got to see if the uk fan and booster community can get things right now that Stoops has the clout to push past Mitch's roadblocks.
Stoops has that clout now? Thought mitch was still here.

If UK has the season I think we will, recruiting will take care of itself. NIL is only a piece of the puzzle, and as always, the pendulum will swing back to the mean. The money chasers will end up unhappy because money isn't a good substitute for being on a winner. If kids only go to a school for money, they are gonna be unhappy when they realize their team stinks.
A&Ms class is off to a bad start, but it is just the start of their freshman year, and I doubt very many of them leave after they settle in, make friends, etc. Even if they have a bad season. And it won't be that bad, Bama almost got beat. And not many are going to pay more than A&M. Maybe the nearby city school, lol. And yes, some will be beat out by better talent but if they do transfer we will have to be good enough to get them (and still pay them enough, they have already taken the money once). With our AD for life, I doubt if we win many bidding wars. Texas and several other schools probably have more money than A&M.

Stoops has already climbed one mountain, I doubt if he wants to climb another one. i hope this is wrong, and I think we will have a great year, and if we win the east the sky is the limit..
