Just look at it
We are so well coached on both sides of the ball
We develop kids and get them to the next level
we have great facilities
We play in the best conference in the country
We have a rabid fan base, and with the roll we have been on the last few years you would think recruitng would be top 10 - 15 every year
I know its not done yet and I'm sure the portal will be good to us but I just don't get it
Is NIL hurting us ?

Recruiting is a years-long process and Mitch's NIL hesitancy is now coming home to roost since we were ill prepared in the first wave. Thankfully we are turning things around and simultaneously becoming one of the hottest names in the country. I trust Stoops and Marrow to leverage our current hype into recruiting flips and high level transfers to bridge the gap. Our big time youth movement will help as well.

Long term we got to see if the uk fan and booster community can get things right now that Stoops has the clout to push past Mitch's roadblocks.

Give it time, coaches are already being fired, decommits/flips happen all the time, and transfers are more important than ever. We all wish we had landed a couple more of the top prospects we were after, but go out and win 10 games and everything will be fine.

Looking at the commits. I see players that fit a need and mold of what kentucky has been recruiting the past 5 years. They have 15 commits and more than likely will take 6-10 more players depending on the allotment. There is also a whole six months until the signing period. Reeks ignorance.

Yeah...I think so flipping my be in our future

- JaKeem Jackson - CB
- I still won't give on Kendrick Gilbert to Purdue
- I think we are going to be sexy transfer portal destination for a great prospect
- We do need another edge rusher somewhere....

Is NIL hurting us ?
THREE REASONS WE ARE BEING OUTRECRUITED BY SCHOOLS LIKE UL:
1. NIL $$$
2. NIL $$$
3. NIL $$$

There isn't any reason to think UK will sign top 10-15 classes every year.

There's still a bit of a ceiling because the state doesnt produce enough great talent.

But i think Stoops can land top 25 classes on average every year.

And thats astounding

The game has changed.... only thing that matters now is how much are you going to pay them.... no one cares about most of the other details, just dollar signs. And can you blame these kids?
For sure you can blame the kids...

- Do you think AR15 is going to ever stand a chance making any real money looking like that crap?
- Dline go to many schools and never develop jack squat. Come to UK....learn a NFL 3-4 and develop and get your technique...boom you'll be on NFL roster. Do you think Jeff Brohm is going to develop legit Dline?
- You want to run TE in a legit NFL offense or go to some of these schools? You think Dingle and other TE not going to learn how to flex out and catch...but block, chip on edge, multi faceted to line up in backfields, etc.. and get ready for NFL?

These NIL I suspect will eventually come back down to reality and then you'll still need to go to a place that will develop you and get you in a system with NFL DC and OC. USC offers no legit NFL coaching, Mizzou runs a rinky dink offense, Florida looks nothing like a NFL offense, etc..

Those of us who follow recruiting have been talking about this concerning situation for months.

Bad combination of several things:
-Heavy loss of super talented recruiting assistants like Sumrall & Clinksdale
-replaced by NFL guys with little experience recruiting
-no top rated QB recruit to be the leader of the class & draw in others
-our home territory of Ohio & Kentucky not blessed with a lot of SEC talent for 2023

And of course the elephant in the room, NIL, some of our opponents using it in blatant cheating way. While Barnhart insists on UK not use it beyond even ncaa restrictions. Our coaches are going into fights with both hands tied behind their backs.

I'm hopeful a great winning team helps us finish 2023 class strong. That is, if winning even matters to top rated kids these days, or does getting max cash instantly in hand.

What’s your point?
Lol. My point is:
As long as SOME schools are paying NIL money to RECRUITS to come to their school, and UK and MB WILL NOT ALLOW NIL MONEY to be paid to recruits, but current players only,
THEN, we will be fortunate if we can maintain a class in the 25-30 range.

All of the top players will be bought with NIL money.

There is a thread discussing how you can help with NIL, now.
And unfortunately, that will not help us secure a single recruit that is being offered money to attend another school who school up front in the recruiting process.

It WILL help the players currently on the roster, and that is a good thing. Which is what NIL was intended for.

Unfair playing field right now. Hope it gets fixed BEFORE we fall to 14th in SEC in recruiting.

Not really. Most signees of significance will sign in December. February is for the stragglers that are left, mostly Juco’s and kids trying to get eligible. At least that’s my take.

The final signing period is still in February. Not sure what I'm supposed to take away from this that I didn't say.

I don’t follow football recruiting at all, so was hoping someone could give me some info - what is our QB situation for next season? Are we going to have to snag a good one from the portal? Do we have quality on the bench?

Posts like this is what is hurting us. Texas A&M had a great recruiting class. You see how that is working out. Get a life.

IMO , your last question holds the answer.

I’m thinking we better bring in some one from the portal.
Me as well, just seems like a risk to have to rely on this. And it seems that is what we are doing. Of course, I’m sure there is already something going on behind the scenes. Sometimes with great risk comes great reward. See Will Levis I guess….

There is always the transfer portal. Fill in any gaps that may exist. In the long run it may have a bigger payoff (aside from 5 star players). I am liking what I am seeing out of the some of the transfers that UK has picked up like Keidron Smith, Will Levis etc.

They started slow this summer when the NIL collective talk was off limits. Later they opened up a little and started adding commits. I don’t think it was a big issue but it played a role.

Coming off two great classes you look at the roster and all the freshman and RS Freshman and there’s not a ton of holes.

RB-Tisdale
WR-Key, Brown
TE-Dingle, Kattus
T-Goodwin, Wolabaugh
G-Burton, Bingham
DLine-Walker, Saunders
Edge-Wade
LB-Jackson, Wallace
DB-Hairston, Afari

I’m just listing guys who for most part are already on two deep and playing or guys expected to be starters in near future. I would definitely love to see a big class but we will be fine in a down year. Most guys we sign will have a hard time starting until their third year. I would expect if we keep a top 10 ranking it won’t hurt us finishing the class.

So, what is puzzling you? This is September. We have the makings of another strong class, but Stoops does not have many rides to offer this year.

You saying we’re set to be a pretty darn good team for a few years to come or something?

I read that 44% of the quarterbacks starting on the opening Saturday of college football this year were transfers . Don’t know how many had just arrived in the off season though.

RB Tisdale transferred out

Our last 3 starting QBs were transfers

Levis
Wilson
Johnson

I fully expect a high quality QB to portal here in Dec to complete for the '23 job in spring

/\ This. With UK's offensive performance last year and this year so far I feel UK will have the pick of any of the Top QBs in the Portal after this Season they want

If UK has the season I think we will, recruiting will take care of itself. NIL is only a piece of the puzzle, and as always, the pendulum will swing back to the mean. The money chasers will end up unhappy because money isn't a good substitute for being on a winner. If kids only go to a school for money, they are gonna be unhappy when they realize their team stinks.

If things continue trending up this season, I think we finish class strong with guys decomitting from school and flipping.

As someone said above, we are a fairly young as a team overall. That means the staff can target recruits based upon need. That is a good thing.

Unless UK can get together some serious NIL donors I don't think they will ever be a tip top tier recruiting school. Sad but true. Don't sleep on the portal though. UK can eat well there.
