OT: Inside Arkansas: What if Cal wins?

Arkansas could win this game, if we play like we did at Georgia, we could lose. I’m sure there will be no quit in Arkansas. We have to win our home games, we can’t afford to lose anymore at home. Stranger things have happened, but Pope will have them ready for this game. I hope Carr and Butler can play, at least one of the two.

What if Cal Wins? Arkansas will be 2-6 in the SEC, still facing a crushing schedule, and miles away from being even a bubble team.

Teams have fluke wins in Rupp. Like Evansville. It didn’t change who they were.

Arkansas will still be Arkansas, and their coach will still be an aging guy who the game has passed by and who will never be known for what he did in Fayetteville.

Pope coached against Cal twice previously, both times in Rupp Arena so it was a true road game for Pope, both times when Kentucky was ranked top 10 and Pope was heading little Utah Valley. He lost both games but no blowouts or even big margins:

First loss was by 10
Second loss was by 8

We’ve mostly all got a little bit of nerves because of the stakes.

And Cal is also known for being able to steal a game here and there.

But this year?

As HUGE of a powder keg as Rupp will be?

In the middle of Cal’s single worst SEC season ever by far??

(Literally. Cal has Arkansas 1 and 6 right now. At this point in his 9–16 season Cal actually had us 4 and 3 in SEC play.)

With every single kid on our roster ready to literally take a bullet for Coach Pope or for the Commonwealth either one, and all of them knowing deep down what this game means for us and for Pope?

Against this particular Kentucky team? Who apart from Alabama and Vandy at Vandy doesn’t even have any losses except to teams that are “physical” in a way Cal’s Arkansas isn’t?

If Cal comes anywhere close to winning this game, color me very, very surprised.

Mix the defense… zone and man. Sag off the arc except Z and Davis. In the right capacity, they can light us up.

Two things I'm a little concerned of:

1. Cal still has the talent, and we've seen that as the season goes on, they can usually pull out a win against anyone. Such as last year with Tennessee and Bama. You never know when his team might find that next gear.

2. Let's be honest. Who is most hungry to win this game? It's objectively Cal and also the guys who played here last year: Wagner, Adou, BigZ. I know Pope and our guys will want a win.. but they don't really have the revenge factor. Cal and his team are going to want this BAD. They've had this hame circled since they showed up to Arkansas campus..

But the counter points to these two is that they don't have Fland, and thats gonna hamper a Cal team.. and playing angry isn't always ideal. It could backfire.

I expect a win but wouldn't be at all surprised if we lose. And if Akransas does win, whatever. I'm more concerned about our overall wins.

I mean it's at home to one of the weaker SEC teams.

We should win

But should they win, so what. You just move onto the next game and continue to build the resume.

The goal of the season isn't what we do tomorrow. The goal of the season is to win as many games come March.
