Local university here in Canyon, TX, (WTAMU) played in regional final tonight at home in Canyon. No 1 seed vs Number 2.
Great tournament game with local school trailing all first half but scoring over 50 points in 2nd half to win. They’re moving on to Elite 8 in Evansvile.
WT!s fight song is music to ON ON U of K with different lyrics. Chatted with guy in front of me. Was wearing UK hoodie so he asked about that. He related that he has a friend in Lexington who works for WKYT name of Lee Howard. Maybe some of you know him?
WT has a nice new arena but years ago they played in a 2000 seat gym when they were known as West Texas State. It was called the Box and I attended several games there in the 90s.
Every time I was there I sort of marveled that in 1966, Texas Western played their last regular season game in that tiny gym just a few weeks before defeating the Cats for the national title. Still the worst loss in my 72 years of fandom.
