OT: deep vein thrombosis ends Victor Wembanyama's season early

Is this due to his height or just a random thing? Article didn’t mention anything about it
I'm not a doctor but I watched "House" and since the clot is in his shoulder I'd say it probably has nothing to do with his height unless those blood clots are caused by being at high altitude. I hope he fully recovers because he's a once in forever type player.

No doctor, but would be surprised if he needs them for rest of his career. Unless this becomes occurring he should be off them in 3 months or less.

If no genetic markers indicate anything, and other blood testing does not reveal any other factors for long-term DVT future risk then he would likely only be on blood thinners for six months till these go away. If he gets them again, he will be on them forever.

This coming from someone that has had DVT’s multiple times as well as double digit PE’s. Definitely a risk though when you’re on blood thinners have to be super super careful can’t take any blows to the head, etc. For risk of bleeding on the brain.

He will not be eligible for any awards because he didnt play in 65 games.

Get well big fella!!
It's easier to name the guys taller than about 7-1 that had injury prone careers, than it is to name the ones that stayed relatively healthy. I hope he gets healthy. He is entertaining to watch and plays with a couple of former Cats currently.

Blood clots are one of those things I never took seriously until it happened to me. I couldn't make it up a flight of steps. By the time I finally decided to go to a hospital, the doctor told me I was lucky to be alive and I spent a week in the hospital. Suddenly I realized how prevalent they are when the commercials were on TV. Remember the one with Arnold Palmer, Kevin Nelson and the NASCAR driver? Chris Bosh got blood clots soon thereafter.

More serious than people might think. I wonder how blood thinners will affect the rest of his career?
There's better treatments now for DVT, but that's still extremely serious. If they can't get that under control, this could end his career.

All it would take is a clot slipping, and he wouldn't make it off the court.

I hope he recovers because he's a great player, but that's a serious diagnosis for a pro athlete.

I almost died from blood clots in Jan 23. I happen to be in LA for work when it happened and went to UCLA. The Dr left me on thinners for 8 months and then asprin 81mg/day another year.

Extremely painful event. They thought initially mine was DVT but turned out to be arterial.

That’s crazy because he is gonna have to be on blood thinners now and usually once you start that at least when you are older you don’t stop. If that won’t fix it he won’t play as long as he’s on them. That would be a shame. He’s on track to be a great. Obviously he has the best medical care and money in the world so I’d say his odds are way higher than normal.

Yeah Bosh was one prominent player who got them and had to retire.

Mine was 10 years ago. I was on serious blood thinners in the hospital for a week (they wouldn't even let me shave) and Coumadin ever since. I had so many clots in my lungs they went in and blasted them out.

You're laying flat on your back and they snake this instrument through your groin and then THROUGH YOUR HEART into your lung. They tell you to inhale and you can feel that something is inside there. One by one it would blast apart the clot and then suction it out.

My doctor was the one in the commercial in Louisville.

It's the result of Vaccine Injury in most of these cases! There are obvious exceptions since this condition isn't new. However, the issue with blood clots have skyrocketed since the Covid vaccine.
