OT Dallas advances on controversial flag pick up

The issue is not "call" vs "non call." The issue is....It was flagged a PI infraction, and the officials chose to pick up the flag.

That is pretty rare in the NFL.

Unless...one official called it PI from the backside because he "believed" the defender had ahold of something in front of him, but the official with a better view came in and told him that it was not the case. Flags are picked up all of the time, but most of the time NFL officials have too much pride to admit they were wrong. Maybe being the playoffs they wanted to make sure they got it right.

The proper call was made and then overruled. That is what is strangest of all to me. Hey that almost makes one believe someone had some money on that game or like some poster posted the NFL liked the Dallas-Green Bay TV matchup better.

I can think of few examples of pass interference more blatant than that play. I just can not understand any legitimate reason for picking up that flag and I pull for the Cowboys. Definitely a prime case of home cooking.
I agree his back was to the ball, and he even grabbed the receivers right arm before the ball arrived. I kept waiting for an explanation but none was granted - most head officials would have offered an explanation as to what occurred, but Morreli is too chickenshit to do that, he knows the more he talks the more foolish he will look.

That call was a game changer IMO.

The flag should not have ever been thrown. Its gotten ridiculous how much they call pass interference of the defense. At least the NFL has started to sometimes call offensive pass interference that usually happens on most long balls thrown or fades.
This, and probably worse in the NCAA. The left arm touched the receiver, big deal, he tugged his jersey BRIEFLY, big deal.

I think they should reverse the call anytime they think it is wrong, like instant replay is supposed to do, but doesn't always because of the ridiculous prejudice for the call on the field that doesn't have the advantage of multiple views, reruns, slomo, etc. It seems like in most cases on here whether it was the right call or not depends entirely on whether you were a Cowboys or Lions fan-------as usual.

Anyone that thinks that was the worst call they ever saw must have started watching football yesterday.

AND if the worst call you ever saw was against the other team you probably thought it was the best call you ever saw, and about time the refs got one right.

I haven't seen the full replay from the call-to- the reversal (I've only seen the replay of the contact), but from what I've read:

The flag was thrown,
Penalty was announced,
Yardage was marched off,
Ball was spotted,

AND THEN

Call was reversed,
Yardage was marched back,
Ball was respotted,
4th down....Lions.

Someone correct me if I have the facts wrong.

If the facts are accurate.....I don't ever think I've seen a call (on a non-replay situation) go so far into the process as to marching off the yardage and spotting the ball only then to have the call reversed with respotting to the old mark, moving chains back & forth, etc.

Make no mistake....I'm a Bengals fan....not a fan of the Lie-downs or 'Boys, but this is a really an unusual turn of events.

First of all he didn't face guard .. second as to the Morelli crew being one of the worst (by another in this thread) did you watch the game. They explained it was not Morelli's normal crew but an all-star crew which eventually got the call right.

Boys probably lose at Lambeau but clearly better than the Lions.
Defender clearly hit the arms of the receiver before the ball arrived and just as clearly wasn't making a play for the ball.
Your niece said you would defend your precious Cowboys!

The receive grabbed his arm AND his jersey as well, while the ball was in the air. Should have been a no call. But you see what you WANT to see.

What really annoyed me is the refs helping Dallas continue their final drive when the Lions held on 3rd down a couple of times to force a field goal attempt.

The refs were not going to allow it to be a 20-20 game with Detroit having a chance to win it with a field goal. It was comical. All you can do is laugh,.

That said, next week the fantasy ends in Green Bay. The Cowboys are a fraud and a pretender. They may have went 8-0 on the road in the regular season, but this is the post-season and Green Bay is not going to bow down to the "mighty" Cowboys.
Jeez, whining about the refs. You sound like a UofLOL fan.

DAMN GUYS, IS IT NOT CLEAR WHAT HAPPENED???????

The bartender at Buffalo Wild Wings pulled the tap handle that had the Dallas "Star" on it
and viola, the flag was picked up!

The difference is, every commentator and analyst agrees with me today. So what is your point again? SMH. I am a Titans fan, my team sucks and I had no dog in this fight. Most intelligent neutral people agree with me on the inconsistency of the officiating yesterday in that game.

It was pretty clear Dallas was going to win the game when they were helped down the field by the officials, but picking up the flag for PI when it was a legit call jogged my memory on why I quit watching the NFL. Why not in pre season just announce the Super Bowl winner and avoid all the injuries? Getting as bad as the NBA about protecting its superstars, but fans did buy that ticket to see the star sitting on the bench with 3 fouls in the first quarter.

Yeah, I agree to an extent. There is almost no parity in the NFL. The funny thing is the Cowboys are the little parity we have at this point in the playoffs, as they have not been in it in a few years.

Another stupid thing about the playoffs is you had two dog crap teams playing each other in Carolina and Arizona. I'm sorry, but Carolina should be the 6 seed playing at Dallas with their 7-8-1 record, and Detroit at Arizona (Arizona won head to head, both 11-5), and we would most likely have the four best teams left with Detroit at Seattle, and Dallas at Green Bay this week.

The AFC is so boring and predictable. I hope everyone is looking forward to another cliche and boring Brady vs. Manning AFC Title game in a couple weeks. And no shock at all that NE will win that as well. Then in the Super Bowl I look for Seattle to win again...new year, same as the old season/year.
