OT Dallas advances on controversial flag pick up

Wow! How much did JJ have to pay to get that blatant pass interference flag picked up?
Easily the worst call/no call in NFL history!
Won't matter because Packers will roll them in Green Bay.

I hate the Cowboys as much as anyone, but IMHO that was a flag that should never have been thrown to begin with.

Pete Morelli is the worst NFL official in history. I've seen his crews make several very controversial calls/no calls over the years, especially not enforcing oblivious rules infractions like his crew did today.

The pick-up was nothing short of shameful and even the retired league official commented on how bad that no-call was.

Dez Bryant ran out and got in refs face after the call. Isn't that a flag itself, an offensive player running onto the field and arguing a defensive penalty.

On replay from other angle, you can see Lions receiver hand fighting (and even facemasking) Dallas defender. Refs will rarely give an interference call if there's hand-fighting by both O and D.

Yeah, the Lions really got screwed over on penalties that got reversed after the fact

first it was holding on the dallas player he had a handful of jersey, second before the ball arrived he pushed with his left hand and what is totally lost is Dez Bryant ran onto the field to argue with the official. That is a very easy unsportsmanlike penalty

First of all he didn't face guard .. second as to the Morelli crew being one of the worst (by another in this thread) did you watch the game. They explained it was not Morelli's normal crew but an all-star crew which eventually got the call right.

Boys probably lose at Lambeau but clearly better than the Lions.

I don't follow you sec, you can't face guard in the nfl, if you must be making a play on the ball in order for that to not be called pass Interference. College it's allowed

we can debate whether it was PI or not but what stinks is the flag was throw and it was relayed to the head official who announced to the world that it was pass interference. Once the announcement was made it should stand period. The other blatant thing was Bryant running on to the field which is a easy penalty to make

It isn't a rule. As long as you're not all over the guy then you don't have to play or even look for the ball. There was very little contact and they made the right call when they picked it up.

faceguarding is not a penalty if no contact is made. However if any contact is made than the defender must be making a play on the ball.

Had no care about who won this game, but given what you've posted, the 60 other classless things Suh has done in his career, and the stomp another Lion had on the defenseless Bears guy earlier this season made me in hindsight LOVE that the Lions lost on a controversial call. Especially given they overturned Suh's game suspension.

Pettigrew grabbed Hitchens facemask, so you can quit crying about that. The running into the kicker on Dallas in the first half was bs. Also how about those 2 sacks Suh got and shouldn't have been in the game? Fact is Garrett finally proved he has a sack and went for it on 4 th and 6. That was the game winning move. Ive never seen one team winning an opening round playoff game against a team nobody likes outside of Detroit bring out so many cry babies.

Defender clearly hit the arms of the receiver before the ball arrived and just as clearly wasn't making a play for the ball.

You're right he did but I'm guessing he goes along with whatever is called 99% of the time as you could throw a flag on just about every pass and find enough to justify it and 100% of run plays because someone is getting their jersey held.

It's been made out to be way bigger of a deal than it should have been.


The head linesman who had a better angle overturned the call per Pete Morelli (head ref I believe).

The question has to be why was it picked up? You don't see that happen with that type of call.

The flag should not have ever been thrown. Its gotten ridiculous how much they call pass interference of the defense. At least the NFL has started to sometimes call offensive pass interference that usually happens on most long balls thrown or fades.

Head ref explained why flag was picked up. Head linesman had a better view of play. Admitted crew should have discussed before he made the announcement. In the end, they got it right no question in my mind. Like I said earlier, this is a twitter made controversy. If you think that was a bad call, there were certainly worse calls in the game.

What do you expect the head ref to say? It was a bad call, especially since it had already been called.

The defensive player never turned to see the ball and ran right through the offensive player, I'm not sure how you can take anything else from the play.

What really annoyed me is the refs helping Dallas continue their final drive when the Lions held on 3rd down a couple of times to force a field goal attempt.

The refs were not going to allow it to be a 20-20 game with Detroit having a chance to win it with a field goal. It was comical. All you can do is laugh,.

That said, next week the fantasy ends in Green Bay. The Cowboys are a fraud and a pretender. They may have went 8-0 on the road in the regular season, but this is the post-season and Green Bay is not going to bow down to the "mighty" Cowboys.

Anyone who says that was not PI or at the least defensive holding or even unsportsmanlike conduct on Bryant for running on the field arguing with the ref ... you are either a Cowboy fan, or know absolutely NOTHING about football. No other way to cut it. The PI was clear, the defensive holding was clear, UC was clear, Detroit should have kept the ball. Doesn't matter though, Cowgirls lose @ Packers next week.

I can think of few examples of pass interference more blatant than that play. I just can not understand any legitimate reason for picking up that flag and I pull for the Cowboys. Definitely a prime case of home cooking.
