As great a player as Oscar is, and he is great, it amazes me how much he struggles right at the rim. With his size and strength you would think he would be able to create enough space to get his shot off better at the rim than he does, even against taller players. Not to mention how many dunks that he continues to miss. I guess that's the reason his draft rankings are so bad. Maybe that will be enough to get him back for another year to work on his game inside five feet.

Oscar relies on getting position and want too, to get rebounds. He jumps average for a 6 foot 9 guy but he is very strong and does have the capability to use either hand around the basket which makes him hard to handle. He out works most people and does throw it back out most of the time when being trapped or double teamed.

That's the exact reason he's not going to the league, even though 8 million people think he can score all he wants on NBA guys and can't score on mid major guys with any size at all. Not knocking Oscar, he is what he is, which is a fantastic college player that I absolutely love.

Doesn’t help if his vertical is 3/4”.

seriously, he seems to hesitate, try to gather himself, shot fake some, and by then defenses are hanging all over him. He should just go up strong and make or draw the foul. I imagine the coaches are working with him on that.

NBA teams would be crazy to pass on a guy that gives you everything he has. I’m not saying he will ever be an all star. But I certainly believe he can be a rebounder in the league. Dennis Rodman became an All Star based on that. Jared Vanderbilt is starting now.
Oscar is also a very smart player. Leads our team in steals as well. He won’t have to be a scorer to make it in the league.

He’s a a taller, better Chuck Hayes. And that’s not a slight. Both were undersized at their position and lacked elite length but used positioning, strength and maximum effort to get the job done.
I hope he has comparable NBA success to Chuck Hayes who played 12 seasons in the NBA and made over 30 million dollars. Chuck Hayes is a good comparison to Oscar, they are both slightly undersized for their position but make up for it with strength, knowledge, skill and determination.

He will go to the league. But you are right in that he ain’t going there to score. I mean he will score some on put backs and the break. He has nice arc and touch on his shot, but a slow release so needs space to take it.
But he will go, and be drafted (at least 2nd round, but possibly late 1st) to be a specialist. To rebound all those missed by the other 4. He can get a team probably 5 extra possessions a game over most other guys. We are not talking a good rebounder, we are talking the best in maybe 30 years.
But with his touch and work ethic, if I’m a team I’m betting he could become a solid 3pt shooter too, like others have developed in the pros.

This is not the NBA of the 80's. This is not the Rodman, Bill Laimbeer NBA. There is zero reason to have a guy on the floor playing the 4 position that has no handles and can't shoot the 3. This is not 40 years ago. He wouldn't be able to guard his man either but ok.

Patterson extended his NBA shelf life by coming back to show he could shoot the three. Would love for Oscar to do that but I just don’t think it’s in the cards.

Oscar can definitely carve out a role as a specialist but he’s going to have to get better in the pick and roll defense if he wants to stay on the floor in the NBA. They’ll eat him alive if he doesn’t.

I can see that comparison. And Chuck is one of my 5 all-time favorite Cats, but Chuck couldn’t rebounded even close to Oscar. And Oscar has 4” on him.
Another, what about Charles Oakley?

On the right team , I could see Oscar playing 20-25mpg with 6-9 pts, and 8-12 rebounds. GS would be a good fit

Oscar went from not being able to shoot outside of 3 feet at WVU to consistently knocking down 17 footers for us in one season. He has the work ethic to became a 3 point shooter as well.

I respect your opinion but saying Oscar is going to shoot the 3 is just wishful thinking, he can't even shoot a free throw. Did you watch and listen last night when he was on the line? No current team in the NBA wants a short guy that can't create on his own, dribble, or shoot. He also wouldn't be able to guard his man up there because they'd draw him out of the middle and go around. I agree, he has great work ethic and but I'll disagree with his touch. His touch???? He can't score from 6 inches away with 4 opportunities against anyone his size or bigger. Have you watched the season so far? He just can't score the ball and the league has no reason to have a zero spot in a lineup these days. I hope I'm wrong. I hope he makes zillions but I wouldn't bet on it.

Consistently knocking down 17 footers???? Have you watched him play this season? Did you watch last nights game? He can't shoot a free throw lol. He films himself shooting a damn free throw and you guys think he's going to develop a 3 point shot, LOL.

Grady is a worst FT shooter than Oscar. Grady shoots 67% from the charity stripe.
Good thing FT shooting doesn’t determine if you can shoot 3’s.

He’s a better FT shooter than Grady. He films to improve his game. It’s work ethic.

Grady shoots 67% on FT’s and Oscar shoots 70%. You saying you have to be a good FT shooter to be a good 3 point shooter is just stupid. Pippin jr. for Vandy is the same way. It happens a lot.
You are probably the most dense poster on here.
Bashing Oscar is pretty stupid!
Not bashing Oscar at all its easy to see. Oscar is not an NBA player in todays NBA. He has zero outside shot and can't score 6 inches from the goal, as evidenced last night. NO Pippen Jr. has a stroke, Oscar doesn't please never reference him being close to Pippen Jr. on any shot in basketball. Most dense? I'm pretty thick but I'm sure there are others much denser. As I've said multiple times, I love Oscar, I also love my sons, but none of them are leaguers. Some of you guys are just blind to facts if you love a player, I'm not.

I don’t know why this guy has a hard on for trying to take Oscar down a peg or two but he should probably seek medical attention at this point.
Not trying to take Oscar anywhere, just stating what I think. My love for a player has ZERO to do with what I think of his capabilities. My son plays high school ball and he's my favorite player but I understand he's never playing D1 ball, doesn't mean a thing about me liking him or not.

Oscar struggles with length. What is the modern NBA big man? Long and athletic.

Oscar will make money playing basketball but I’m not sure how much of it will be in the USA.

He could guard a 5 but that’s it. In today’s NBA, you have to be able to guard multiple positions.

I think Oscar is just fine. He does struggle with taller opponents but he is learning and growing. I just hope these bunnies and dunks he is missing don’t get in his head. Those kind of things seem to manifest themselves in sports sometimes.

Rupp Rafters: I don't care about a players NBA career I WANT GOOD COLLEGE PLAYERS!

ALSO Rupp Rafters: Oscar is a good ncaa player hell probably win NPOY, let's take him Down a peg he'll never be a nba player.

If the NIL doesn't get fixed let's just start a go fund me for Oscar. I'm sure for another season the good folks of BBN would contribute some money.
Heck for another season, if Oscar doesn't make it long in the NBA he could all but be guaranteed a nice paying job in KY.
