Jon Sumrall's team just took the lead. 20-19 with 14:55 left in the 4Q. If they win I believe they'll win their division of the Sun Belt due to a tie-breaker, and play Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt championship next week. Very impressive turnaround by Sumrall...Troy went 5-7 last season.

The game is on ESPNU if you want to watch this and UK-UofL simultaneously.

Troy scores 34 points in the 4th quarter and win 48-19. Congrats to Coach Sumrall. Go beat Coastal Carolina next week.

Troy SHOULD be playing James Madison University (JMU) who had an identical conference record as CCU and housed them 47-7 in the final game of the season.

Once again, NCAA (and NCAA conference) rules penalize a good team (this time twice).
  1. Entry into FBS: NCAA allows for a mix of FCS FBS scheduling for two years during the transition to FBS. Because of that, they have an arbitrary ban for conference crowns and bowl eligibility for TWO YEARS. However, JMU jumped right into a full SBC/FBS season (with only one FCS opponent).....just like their conference counterparts....and they proved to be the best of the SBC east. They've also nearly filled out their 85 man roster (from the FCS level of 63) through good recruiting and the transfer portal.
  2. Departure from FCS: Their former conference (Colonial Athletic Association), got a case of butt-hurt when JMU announced they were moving to the FBS. CAA banned JMU athletes from participating in conference championships during their last year as FCS participants. Good luck to CAA teams seeking "money games" from FBS JMU in the future.

NCAA should not permit a surly conference kick in the a$$ on the way out of FCS and an archaic rule-set punch in the face on the way into FBS. This is especially true for a school that delayed the transition for a decade so they could appropriately amass resources and improve facilities to ensure success in the move.

It is ironic that CCU benefits from the NCAA rule considering their HC (Jamey Chadwell) left his previous program Charleston Southern facing probation and vacating 18 games for using ineligible players and impermissible use of scholarship funds. JMU is known for being a "Boy Scout" program.

NCAA continues rewarding cheaters and charlatans.

JMU should be playing for a conference crown
and making their case for a post season bowl game.

GBB!

Unfortunately, conference members voted on and established some of those rules without foresight into their own situations. Total dk move, but they're partly responsible for the rules as they stand

He’s not going to be at Troy long. I can see him at Ole Miss when Lane takes off. I guarantee you that he’s already on someone’s radar.
