Okay UK fans... Help me out here

Okay you guys.

So I know you hate Duke and hate Duke fans and all of that.

But beyond that... Help a brother out.

So we have lost nearly our entire team this year, and it kind of sucks. I am so used to getting to know our kids for years at a time... That's always been a big part of it. Having so many of them just for four months (or a year and four months) sort of sucks, comparatively.

You guys have had to deal with this for a while now... How do you do it? Any advice?

Get lost with your jab at UK and it's fans. How are people allowed to post this junk when we know they aren't UK fans?

Duke fans be like, "Wake me up when next season starts."

You could always revel in the fact that your biggest rival didn't win the championship.

Oh wait a minute.........................................

Buddy that is a COMPLETE jab. Are you not able to comprehend passive aggressive trash?
I think it is a compelling question and a legit one at that. Everyone in the country knows our turn over ratio of players is high every year. He wants to know how we deal with it and how we stay so engaged during the down time/summer months which is part of the reason we are who we are. Don't think it is anything more or anything less. Yeah he is a Duke fan who lurks on this board often, but he is generally fine to deal with.

You see it however you want to, that's fine. But don't tell me to get off my high horse when I have to read a post from a Duke fan on a UK board that CLEARLY has multiple smug jabs in it. He's passive aggresive throughout the entire post and if you can't see that, that's your problem.

Lmfao what is the smug jab? If anything, it is a compliment to our fan base and how engaged and obsessed we all are. He doesn't seem to get that from his board during the down time. He is asking advice from the most loyal fanbase in the nation on how to deal with something that we deal with every year. Maybe I am failing to see the jab, or I am being too nice/accepting.

Having all these kids leave after only one year has made me just focus more on the name on the front of the jersey instead of the back. They're wearing blue and white with KENTUCKY stretched out across their chest.

Another neat thing I've started paying attention to is how most of these elite recruits become completely sold out to all things Kentucky in such a short period of time. They didn't grow up Kentucky fans and probably never pulled for them like most of the fans do. Then they show up here and get blown away with how they are treated and accepted and they become part of the family. Even after that short amount of time. Most of them do charity work, benefits, or camps back in Kentucky during the offseason. Lexington becomes their new home town. It is always awesome to watch that play out over that one year. Look at Fox and Bam in the locker room after the UNC loss. They are bought in hook, line, and sinker.

@Mwes, he's saying it sucks to be a UK fan compared to getting to know the players and being a Duke fan. He even says it ! Can you not comprehend? He's dead wrong, though. Everybody laughs at Duke, not just UK fans.

Please show me in his OP where he says "it sucks to be a UK fan"? He is saying it sucks to lose all of your players after 1 year and he knows we deal with that year in and year out. I mean don't you think it kinda sucks to lose all of our players after one year and start over when some just aren't yet ready to leave? Wouldn't you rather have some of our borderline first rounders stick around for a second/third year (selfishly) and help us have a better team? There is no doubt we compete every year, and that is incredible considering the turn over we have, but to think we wouldn't have a better shot with players actually returning is nonsense. Not saying you think this, just making a statement.

With that being said, we obviously aren't going to change each others mind lol. So I will just leave it at that. GBB.

I have some advice for you..don't eat yellow snow and brown snow is not chocolate flavored snow. You are welcome.

o_O

Wtf are you talking about? I said nothing like that, and there wasn't a single jab in there.

OP, no offense, but I couldn't care less about your team, your program, your coach, and everything that has anything to do with Duke basketball. And that same criteria applies to every other program not named Kentucky.

You'll get even less sympathy than me about Duke because of the media darlings you all are, how much the refs help you game to game, and how you always get a f**king cakewalk every year in the tournament. You get help on the outside more than any program I've ever seen.

So you're losing a lot of players? Boo hoo. You'll be fine. You only have the national media and the NCAA to pull your asses out of the trenches and pat you on the back and tell you, "Don't worry guys, we're here to help you."

Yeah, this, entirely. Not a single jab in there. You guys have experience with this, so wanted to see how you guys deal with it. Ffs, I literally talked, in this thread, about Cal being so, so successful at UK and us not having the NBA stars you guys have to cheer on... A lot of people take jabs by talking like that?

It's just an adjustment. You will likely become more fond (than in the past) of those who do stay 3-4 years. We are all fans (of our respective teams), but almost all fans really don't get to know these kids personally, so don't take their short stint at your school personally. They are chasing their professional dreams, just like a Med-student, pre-law student, engineering student, ect.... Just try to enjoy the success it brings, but also recognize the additional obstacles it creates.

He is often time passive
Wow. Okay then. My guess is you are an angry guy... Who else would make their user name based on a rival, instead of their own team?

We get a lot of posters coming here posing innocent questions like:
- should Cal accept Cam Johnson after slamming the grad transfer rule?

This seems like an innocent enough question, but it's set up to instigate and insinuate that Cal is a hypocrite that will do whatever he wants even after ranting about it if it benefits him. Your question could be construed in the same tone. So, Cardsstink wanted to let you know he feels this is what you are doing.

Yeah, but it isn't that simple.

First, that team won a title. That sort of covers up everything else, you know? Plus, it was the first time we've had more than a single OAD, you know?

It seems like it will happen more often now, and I doubt most of the seasons will end in titles. Hell, if ONE ends in a title that would be great.

Nail, yeah, that sounds about right. The roller coaster sucks especially. You guys have had GREAT success in March and April, which I think probably helps a LOT. Like... a ton, you know? Fingers crossed we follow suit, but I just don't see that it is likely (there aren't many runs like Cals in history, at all, after all...)

Truth is more around here struggle with it just like you are starting to but have accepted it more or less as the good runs in the tourney does make it more acceptable and believe it or not Cal has made the best of it by doing a good job of at least creating a UK family atmosphere out of the guys that leave to make it seem like they're more part of the program for longer.

But I predicted early on that Duke fans would struggle with it more than most because it's just different there. And you're right, the championship buys some time but not much and unless some deep runs continue there will be a lot of disgruntled folks down your way and K will start to feel that and get testy about it too and probably go back to his old ways.

Thought you deserved at least one grown up answer.

Really it is about the process. You are going to get excited for a new season no matter what. However, for many of us we go in with a lot of unknowns. We have the talent and ability to be amazing, but the team has to gel and they have to grow up quickly, and they have to learn to play good team defense. Part of the fun is watching them grow up. It is extremely sad to see them go and sad that they won't play more than a year or two, but then it is on to the next and seeing how that team comes together and how they grow and learn and the excitement starts all over again. By the end of the year, these freshmen are basically seniors to us. We've felt highs and lows with them and we celebrate the time they had at UK and thank them for choosing to be Wildcats.

Well, your team won't be very good but might be enough to win the ACC. I hope this is the beginning of the end to Duke basketball. Maybe we won't see your High school gym packed with dweebs waving their arms like a gaggle of privileged assholes. I swear I could beat up the entire Duke student body.....

We were good before you and will be good long after you're forgotten. That's the difference between us and them.

THIS is the typical crap - seek to divide and conquer - stir it up - try to back off and play innocent - and the problem is with others of course... LOL - different day - same passive aggressive crap. "I come in peace - I am misunderstood - but I have to defend my honor and the honor of my program... on a UK board... because you are attacking me... even though I started it...". Predictable.... This guy lol. He follows this pattern ALL THE TIME.

Step 1. Ask other people that care about your team - like-minded people.
Step 2. Recount and recite your entitlement and that your HOF Coach and basketball Brand will pull you through.
Step 3. Leave other team's programs out of your "desire to gain understanding" LOL.
Step 4. Hug your Grayson Allen bobblehead and pray he comes back.
Step 5. Hope that Capel stays put and isn't promoted anytime soon.
Step 6. Quit trying to provoke others with foolish passive aggressive bs insincere questions
Step 7. When you break Step 6. - don't blame them for misunderstanding and assume they are angry - they are not angry - just annoyed with petty fake people

He's laughing his ass off right now, somehere, as he got away with his passive-aggresive scum and got UK fans to turn on each other like he wanted to. It's amazing to me how some people can't see sarcasm and passive-agressiveness.

Just keep calling him out - I certainly will. Seems to be the only thing that gets under his thin skin. I can see his shizz coming from a mile away... his pattern is so funny and predictable. Yes - I am sure he laughs when a couple of UK fans start to eat each other...

At least we are not Douche U fans

Seems to me that Duke just can't do it like Kentucky. Yeah, yeah @TheDude1 we all know about 2015. Biggest bunch of bullshit there ever was. One power five conference champ on the entire side of Duke. That conference champ was Virginia. LOL VIRGINIA. [laughing] ****ing pathetic. Your 2 seed was GONZAGA. All you gotta do is look at the bracket setup for 2015 and it's obvious. Y'all got Kentucky's road that year.

You have to look at how cool/interesting it can be seeing an entirely new team (and with Cal) style of play every year. And keep your eyes on the prize- March.

I don't mind it because we win big every year and are playing our best ball by the NCAA. Others struggle with it, which I get.

Yeah and the Cincinnati Reds will win the World Series in September.

[eyeroll]

I keep my eye on the prize that comes in April, not March.

You know how I know?

COMMON SENSE.

On a serious note, I'm just messing around with you due to your response to my post in the Humphries thread. It's all in fun and I hope you don't take it personal, as I'm not one who likes to be in Cat on Cat crime. Heck, I even liked the post where you made a dig at me.

I do still think Bamba will play the 4 (maybe not exclusively) if we get lucky enough to have him wear the blue and white next season. If not, I'm definitely man enough to admit I'm wrong and will gladly do so as it'll mean that he committed to UK. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Go Big Blue!!!

Thanks, appreciated. You guys have had a bunch of good years with Cal. We've had some great success in that time, but Christ we've had a lot of flameouts, and you don't leave those teams feeling so positive. Yeah, the UK guys who go almost always seem to "buy in"... I think most of the OADs at Duke have, but there do seem to have been a few chemistry problems too (Rivers/Curry team, the start of this years team.). It seems that that sweet spot where a guy has lots of talent but stays longer has changed...

And I agree that Duke fans will struggle with it more than some. I think K is untouchable as long as he is there, especially since he doesn't have that many more years left. As a Duke fan, you certainly want the last years to be good ones...

It does seem like the majority of kids who come through the program, as with many places, seem like good kids. Maybe it is as much about the early flameouts as anything... Winning cures all ills, you know?

Passive-agressiveness?

You mean passive AGGRESSIVE behavior??

Oh God shut up already. We get it you don't know how to deal with common crap at big time programs that's been happening a decade now. Don't know what to tell ya man figure it out or something. Top Players stay 1-4 years today depending on draft projections. You've lost players early dating back to the early 2,000's. Roll f'n eyes.

And for everyone else who gives a damn what a Duke fan feels toward his Dukies leaving early. Wake up quit playing along. Tobacco Road and the corrupt NCAA can bleed out as far as I'm concerned.
