Ohio State & other BIG10 teams are losing tens of millions of dollars.....

I guess in the Big10's attempt to keep up with the SEC they're going to spend themselves into bankruptcy.
That's misleading as OSU supports the most athletic teams at 36 - more than any other school. They'll just cut a few and the $38 million loss was based on a year when they only played 6 home games. As with most schools, the only money makers are men's CFB and BB.

And the B1G is not trying to keep up with the SEC - They've passed them with the last 2 NCs and being 6-1 last year against the SEC in post season. Plus, the B1G controls 52% of the TV markets - the SEC 34%

It's like comparing a Major League team to a minor league team

Buying titles @ 38 Million over budget might make your books look like a pro team, but it doesn't mean you've passed anyone. It just means you finally gave up trying to do it the right way.

Markets don't matter. Ratings do. I highly suspect that there were more viewers per SEC game than per B1G game. The huge LA market means nothing if people are surfing vs. watching.

^I've said/thought that for a while, too. Adding Rutgers to the B10 to 'get the NYC market' was a stretch at best, imo. A million things more interesting to do in the city vs watch Rutgers play MD or IU. Add in that the NE is heavily tilted towards NFL and other pro sports, it didn't make much sense to me. The initial TV contract was probably more lucrative but, to your point, if access doesn't translate into viewers, the renewal will reflect that fact. Same can be said for adding LA market, imo.

Hard to say if "Outkick.com" is a legit source, but assuming those numbers are right, at some point, maybe sooner than later, some of these schools, e.g., Rutgers, will say "WTF are we doing" and drop down to a more sustainable model . . . . which might be a good thing for college athletics in the long run. I mean, is it really that freaking important to have an athletics department, if it loses tens of millions of dollars every year?

Amazon and Google always spent more than their competitors…they don’t have competitors anymore.

Folks get wrapped up in “expenses”

Keep money on the sideline and see what happens.

I think UK made money last year. Most likely will this year with Cal off the books…what do we have to show for it?

Two years making money and what do you think our record will be in football next season?

BIG is in the hole and going broke…back to back titles well on their way to 3 in a row.

Private equity is beating down the door to buy who?

In the black UK?! Nope!

That BIG TV money dwarfs what we’re getting. If individual schools decide to blow it all and then some that’s on them, but the conference is trending up in terms of value and ability to negotiate big contracts.

The minor league won 6 out of the last ten NCs. The Major League? 2. And, a high school team somehow also got 2.

But yet the Minor League will still have more players drafted in the NFL draft.
