********OFFICIAL GAME THREAD********

We're getting very little scoring from our bigs lately. That's not a good trend and needs to be fixed.

Why are we playing stall ball?

There have been 6 or 8 times we beat their press have a 3 on 2 opportunity and back it back out this half? Even early in the shot clock it looks like we have a chance to drive to get an easy score and we throw the ball back out front instead.

Terrible offense this half giving USC hope.
It's almost like Cal has told them to not make easy baskets.

If Cal doesn't watch out with this "stop playing offense once we are at the Vegas line" he's going to end up in a point shaving investigation. I know that's not what it is, but it looks really bad.

Cal is not coaching a good game. We're playing freaking stall ball. That's what an under talented team does with the lead. It's almost like we aren't trying to score.
Maybe superstition on his part given the unlikely losses we've suffered in that building.

To a certain extent, I really believed we have played into USC's game plan. I am sure Martin wanted to play exceedingly physical and cause UK to "stall" a little, which we have, yet still up comfortably. UK may be playing ugly offensively, but good luck scoring in a half court set against us.

Yeah i am sure thats why he told them

I think slowing the game down intentionally to nurse a lead is one obvious thing Cal does to prep for March. "We have to be able to grind it out." Playing that deliberate pace is something you absolutely have to be comfortable with to survive in tournament play, and it's something that doesn't come naturally to most kids, especially the kinds of kids he typically recruits. So he has them grind, IMO, sometimes in games that don't obviously call for it...

What an ugly game.
This is how tourney games usually go so i like these games and we are up 15 with 4 to go so i have zero complaints. USC is a good team who has just played bad since conference started but anyone who beats Iowa St at Iowa St is a good team , period.
It wasn't at Iowa State, but it was a good win for them.

USC is not a good team. They just lost at home by 17 to Tennessee. We have played very poorly today. Especially the bigs and one of our guards. Not sure what is going on.

look who has played great as opposed to who hasn't. I think our veterans are overthinking - they want this game badly and aren't relaxed enough to let the game come to them.

At least - that's what I'm hoping it is.

Andrew needs to stop holding the ball so much. I am not sure if we have a lack of team movement or if it is his indecisiveness.

One of the reasons our offensive ranking keeps slipping is we stop trying to score with a lot of time left in the game.

In the end, we won convincingly on the road. We played defense. You've got to be happy about that. However, our offense is a mess. No flow at all, and our bigs are nonexistent. I've said all year the platoon system is great for defense but hurts offense. I don't know if that's part of the problem, but we need to get it straightened out before March. You can't win the title on defense alone.

Yes, I did not think he would try implement cruise control with this team but he is.

Why the damn hell do we have andrew in at the end of the game, the way hes played today
because of the way he played against Vandy at the end of the game, and a multitude of others.

I wonder if he is trying to get the bigs some looks and practice in real game situations where he has a decent lead, but for whatever reason it really slowed down.
