This is a big deal (literally and metaphorically). Nike now has the NBA and the NFL. I have no idea who makes the MLB uniforms but it seems like other athletics apparel companies are just small fish in Nike's pond.

It's a big deal for Nike and the NBA, but I don't see it having much impact on recruiting. If it does, it will only be with regards to Nike continuing to be even more dominant as a brand, or maybe to force the hand of the other companies to try and focus on the grassroots level even more.

I dont think it makes much difference in the long run. Dont players sign their own shoe deals wherever they want? As far as Nike goes, I think were going to learn a lot about Nike before this FIFA scandal runs its course. They want to control every sports market and it sounds like they pulled no punches when it came to trying to wrestle soccer away from Adidas. It sounds as if they may have directly paid some of the bribes being discussed. All rumors right now and I'm sure their lawyers are working to keep their company name off the lips of anyone in a courtroom. If they open this thing up Nike may be in line for a big black eye, maybe as big as when everyone figured out their shoes were made by 10 year olds in sweat shops.

I assume that this deal only covers uniforms and official merchandise, but the shoes will still be player choice.....correct? If so, not a huge impact on where kids go to school re: shoe company relationships.

Yes, shoes are always determined by the players' individual sponsors. LeBron = Nike, Curry =Under Armour, Wiggins = Adidas, etc.

Won't make a difference. It's just uniforms and official team apparel. Shoes is what matters, and this has no impact on shoes.

ASIDAS has the soccer world on lockdown, NBA is chump change compared to that.

Whoa now, it's just soccer. I find it hard to believe that Adidas makes more money off of soccer than they would in the NBA. Our country could not care less about soccer, which hurts soccer badly.

NBA is mostly an American fan supported league. soccer is a national sports following from millions and millions of fans. The amount of NBA fans does not compare with that of soccer...no where close.

It is actually a huge deal. Nike has 91% of the basketball footwear market share which they will continue to dominate. They also have the NFL and most major college programs as well. The key piece in this deal that was negotiated was the Nike logo and Jordan logo will be on court on the uniforms - Adidas only had their logo on warmups and non game time items. That is a huge difference in terms of sales and exposure. NBA basically told Adidas and UA no thanks and knew that in order for it to grow they had to grab Nike on board for a long terms deal - Adidas was told no thanks with 2 years until the new deal starts.

Seems like the only real difference is the materials in which they use. Overall styles and branding generally remain the same.

Either way, corporate logos on jerseys aren't too far off.

To an extent. While the NBA is an American based league, I would say that it has a worldwide fanbase as well. Players from across the world dream of playing in the NBA and most European leagues are a funnel to the NBA. That's not even considering the wealth of American vs. Soccer hotbeds such as Mexico or Brazil.

Maybe I'm totally out in left field, but I just don't see soccer being more profitable than MLB, NFL or the NBA.

You are out in left field... soccer's money is all in Europe which is of comparable wealth with the rest of the world just being a very large cherry on top.

Adidas makes significantly more on soccer than they ever could in the NBA... that said, Nike continues to make inroads on soccer too and eventually will dominate that as well.

Basketball has one top league, soccer has five top leagues and several smaller nation leagues with teams people actually care about is a key point

Did you not see my post above yours? England's Premiere League by itself is more profitable with 10 less teams than the NBA.
