Nebraska opening

The program must be in the dumpster with a bunch of gas. The Nubs paid Frost $15 million. That buyout would have been $7.5 million had they waited to Oct. 1. $7 million to go away 2.5 weeks early. Wow!

Some media member for Nebraska just said Matt Campbell is the number one choice and they expect him to take the job

I saw that, and on their hot board I think the Coastal coach was 2nd. Mullen was high on the list, don't guess he would turn out much worse than Frost did, but his lack of recruiting would be another disaster.

Another thing is why would Campbell take it if Iowa state is in the ball park money wise, much better chance to reach playoffs at Iowa State. They were also looking at who else would be coach hunting, they look at AU as their main competition with Arizona St being a tier below. CMS was listed in the unrealistic group.

Nebraska just isn't an attractive job, almost zero instate recruiting, no recruiting base anywhere I can tell, unrealistic expectations from fans.

Got in the car to go to work this morning and the radio was on WHAS. listend to about two minutes of it before I had to switch to spotify. Their sports guy was on there talking to Tony Cruz, downplaying Kentucky's win. He was saying Florida wasn't ranked going into the season, then got a big jump after beating Utah, so the jury was still out on how big our win was and that Florida was probably overrated. pretty sure he was a Louisville homer though. And then they started yammering about how Stoops is Nebraska's number one target and how that's something we are going to have to worry about going forward. I don't consider Nebraska a threat. Anymore that's a lateral move at best, and that's only because of their past tradition and history. I see Iowa as the biggest threat out there to steal Stoops if that job ever comes open. Ferentz isn't getting any younger and their offense is seven kinds of putrid this year. They are lucky they have a decent defense. That offense and keeping his son on board is darn near a fireable offense.

Urban is interesting but expensive with a lot of baggage. He‘s one of very few who could turn that program around essentially overnight for three reasons.

1) Regardless of baggage he’s still one of the best coaching minds and would immediately be able to gain a couple wins just by being better at the craft than most in that conference.

2) He would raid the juco trails and portal like he tends to do thus upgrading talent. Also, even though he couldn’t command cream of the crop at Nebraska he still has 20 years of solid footing in the best recruiting hotbeds.

3) He always seems to be able to put together a solid staff.

Just depends on what Nebraska wants to do. If they’re just desperate to get something to pop short term Urban is the guy. If they’re game plan is total overhaul and rebuilding the program that’s another list of coaches.

Grumpy, wonder if Neb still has HSs that play 6 and 8-man football?

He would take it imo because Iowa State is going to get left out of the conference reshuffle and gets him into the Big10, which is one of the big 2 now.

Still hard for me to grasp, being someone that was just getting into college football when Nebraska was in the Tom Osborne and Lawerence Phillips days, that Nebraska can't convince a coach to leave Kentucky.

Wow times have changed.
I think the definition of “destination program” has changed. Quality of life, fan expectations, commitment to facilities etc. Kentucky is starting to fit the bill.

The success that Osborne had was insane. He went to the Orange, Fiesta or Sugar Bowl in 16 of his last 17 years. He finished in the top 25 every season he was at Nebraska and the Top 10 in 20 of his 25 seasons.

Mark Stoops nor Urban Meyer are taking that job. Nebraska is nothing special and had their moment in the sun 20-35 years ago.

Yeah during that period Nebraska was like what Alabama is now.

Just because your in the SEC doesn't mean you have NIL money. 😂 😂😂 I'm not so sure the SEC won't get ride of a few in this whole realignment. Realignment doesn't necessarily mean add teams, it also means the reverse. Any way Kentucky gets dropped. I don't think so just wondering what people think.

Absolutely not. especially if we can continue to maintain the level of play we have had the past 4 years or so, then theres the whole basketball thing which we are pretty much a cash cow for the SEC in terms of media coverage. Vandy should have been gone a long time ago, they really don't fit in this league. I'd say Missouri would have been a better fit in the Big 10 than the SEC.

Stoops is not leaving Lexington for anyone… ANYONE. He’s made history here and is almost at the top. He will go down as UKs greatest coach
Don't kid yourself......you're being foolish if you think he'd never leave. In fact if UK doesn't get moving and support NIL, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he left for greener pastures of to coach at his Alma mater Iowa...Ferentz is pretty old and probably won't coach much longer.

You'd better bet your bottom dollar that Mark Stoops agent will be called by them whenever that day gets here. I love how everyone just automatically knows there is no way he leaves, I don't know if/when or where he'd go if he were to leave, but I'm sure not naive enough to believe he'll never leave. I pray he doesn't but I sure wouldn't bet that he never will, coaches leave jobs all the time.....thet have egos and desires for Championships

Umm, most people have said if Stoops did leave, it would be for Iowa. Not sure what the hell you are talking about?

I base this off no inside knowledge whatsoever, but I could only see Meyer coming back to college for a really big name job like USC, Notre dame, or somebody In that area

Don't know, several states use to have it, Nebraska, ND, SD, UTAH, MONTANA and probably Wyoming. Not too long ago there was a small private school league in GA that played 8 man. Very small number, 10-12 teams in a 60 mile radius of Atlanta. But once GHSA ruled home schooled kids could play for a team in their district they faded out and joined the GHSA or GISA. GISA is made up of very small private schools that seldom have a P5 player, ironically one about 25 years ago was top 5 in GA and signed with Nebraska. Another last name of Buggs made it to the NFL.

lol my chick would whoop you buddy. Wouldn’t even get my chance. Give me the reasons for kicking Kentucky out and than name a school that’s happened to? Thanks.

And I’m the internet tough guy? lol. Own your dumb, trolling comment or don’t.
Not a trolling comment. It's a question hent the question mark. Was just wondering if some bottom feeders would be traded out for more power schools. If we lose Stoops due to NIL issues it may put us back a whole lot. I'm sure Mitch would make a good hire but the ISSUE is still there (NIL). The Kentucky viewing market is small and haven't been all that great as far as history goes. I love Kentucky, been a fan a long time. Just a question.... one again reading comprehension. Try real hard and you might figure out what I'm ASKING not suggesting.

That's all I was asking. Thank you for a non smart-ass reply. You understand the question. Lol

What are the reasons they would kick us out and not Vandy not even counting Basketball? And like 15 years ago. Nobody is getting kicked from the SEC, especially not a founding member. It was a dumb question. Like I said.

Kentucky is an original member of the Southern Conference which morphed into the SEC during the first expansion.

The SEC (while football is King) is dominant in nearly every sport…the SEC is an everything conference. Kentucky has carried the conference torch since the dawn of time in Basketball (the second largest collegiate sport). Kentucky I’d also a top 5 program in Volleyball, Track and field, and Cheer. All while the football team is finishing seasons top 5 in conference standings and in the final AP poll on a consistent basis recently.

The SEC wouldn’t even consider dropping Kentucky. Mizzou(bottom tier both sports and newest member w worst geographical connection), Vandy (self explanatory…should petition to join the Ivy League), South Carolina (bottom tier in both major sports and didn’t going the league until 1990) in that order are the 3 most at threat if it occurred and we needed ti upgrade teams.

This is correct. Iowa State can't compete with SEC/B1G HC salaries, and certainly won't in the future. Campbell might be able to negotiate a 10-year deal with Nebraska for big $$$.

That said, don't be surprised if Coach Stoops (thru his Agent) gets a big Nebraska offer, and uses that to up his salary again in a "match it, or I'm out" move.

Basketball is third place at several schools.
