If you listen to podcasts make sure to check out Denny Hamlin's Actions Detrimental podcast this week. He blasts NASCAR and says a lot of the same things we are saying. He talks about how they have abandoned the core of the sport just for the sake of entertainment. He says he is tired, as a competitor, of wins having to come down to luck because the cars are all so even nobody can pass. He says that NASCAR media tries to tell fans the racing is good but it's not. I agree with pretty much everything he said.

The problem is the majority of NASCAR media bend the knee to NASCAR.

If you listen to any of the daily shows on SiriusXM NASCAR they for the most part toe the company line and never call out NASCAR for any of their shenanigans. They were parroting all day Friday that NASCAR did what they thought was right in the duel race throwing the caution and it’s a-ok.

They are like NCAA basketball refs. They are inconsistent on what they call or enforce from race to race. They had a situation where drivers had a lot further to drive to get to the checkered flag on Sunday than they did on Thursday and yet the Thursday race they threw the caution and Sunday they didn't. They were totally backward to what they should have called.

Why is the finish to almost every race like that? I don’t remember that happening near as often back when I was more into it ( late 90s early 2k). It was just a much better product back then, was it the drivers, different rules, better managed?

I thought McDowell did an incredible job fighting all race long after going back to the garage early to replace the power steering hose. Earned 6 Lucky Dogs and finished on the lead lap in 13th. Can't help but to mention this is an issue that should have been caught in practice given how quick it happened at the start of the race. NASCAR having no practice at Atlanta really screwed him over and this could have been avoided if caught early in practice. Sure, that could happen any time during a race. However, I have noticed numerous occasions the lack of practice in recent years trying to save the teams money and a car have some electrical issue to ruin their race that would have been found during a practice session.

This generation of car has a hard time passing. On superspeedways handling isn't as important as it used to be. Now its about surviving.

The win and in format has created urgency and reckless behavior in the waning laps. Drivers are making moves they otherwise wouldn't make. Add in the overtime component its a recipe for disaster.

Go back and watch the 1999 Daytona 500. The last 15 laps were wild yet there wasn't a caution. Awesome racing and finish.

You also have guys like Logano who will wreck someone that blocks him but if it happens to him when he blocks then he whines about it. For whatever reason some of them don't ever think they do anything wrong.
