NASCAR thread

Of course Denny Hamlin's ass had to get in here and win. Weather shortened race with 20 laps and Newman nearly fought his way back to the lead after winning the 2nd heat starting the main event from the rear in a back up to finish 2nd right on Hamlin's bumper.

NASCAR guys get a chance for redemption at a track that are familiar with.

A lot of salty people when he won the Chicago race. But not sure what they expect. We are talking about a first time track style of racing for most, if not all, of the NASCAR drivers and a guy who races very similar cars at those types of tracks regularly. It’s not surprising at all that he won that race.

Carson Hocevar casually dropping an f-bomb on TV, says he’s going to vomit, going to watch people get drunk, and warming his hands by the fire of his back tire. Get this kid to the big show.

NBC said it was the first time every car has finished the race since Homestead 2018.

After race, K-ski was mentioning how that track covered their "weaknesses". What was he referring to?

I thought it was refreshing for the most part see a field of drivers keep it together and manage to make it through the race. Been 5 years and great to see Buescher pick up 2 wins recently as one of the good guys in the sport winning in lesser equipment. Change of pace for sure.

Jimmie was not unanimously voted to get in. Whoever did not vote for him needs their voting rights revoked.

I didn't know Jeff Goodman voted for the NASCAR HOF. He is the only idiot I know who could possibly be dumb enough to not vote JJ in. However, according to an article I read nobody has been unanimous including Petty or Earnhardt.

Back when I actually had Twitter I have accidently liked things while scrolling. That reason alone is why I wouldn't have social media if I am a NASCAR driver. I'm not saying he did it accidently but I am not even going to chance getting suspended over a mistake.

Gotta have a burner account.

Trying to give the kid the benefit of the doubt for something like that to even pop up, but the Twitter algorithm is pretty strong.

Buescher on a heater, 2 in a row for him. Might be having a mid-career resurgence like they guy he beat in Truex. Truex lost it trying to go inside of Buescher in turn 1 otherwise he might have had another win today but was able to run Buescher back down.

Clean air wins today. I’m happy for the 17 and RFK. Glad to see them back. But that type of race is exactly what people have complained about and NASCAR has been trying to fix for the last decade.

Of course since it was a driver who doesn’t win much, people are acting like that was the race of the year and just great racing.

Not sure I see the appeal in a guy that is clearly faster not being able to pass because the aero advantage to being out front is so great. Truex was clearly faster, and could catch the 17 time and time again, but never could really get closer than a couple car lengths if he timed his corner right and got a tug down the front or back stretch. Once they got to the next corner he’d lose 2-3 tenths again because he was so aero tight.

I enjoyed the race today. It is great to see someone like Chris Buescher break up the status quo and emerge as more of a contender with his 2 wins about like Harvick last year with the Fords finding some speed. Also nice to see an older driver like Truex still on top and coming back next season. Has some good racing left in the tank.

Yeah I agree that this car is the reason for horrible racing as well as the aggressiveness from guys like Hamlin who will put someone into the wall because they can't pass them clean because of the dirty air. Horrible racing, constantly insinuating their fans and now drivers are racist and abandoning the tracks that made them what they are is greatly contributing to their demise.

Grew up in the heart of NASCAR country and was never a fan. And I say that because I still thought the following was cool about NASCAR:
  1. The classic tracks
  2. It was sponsored by Winston Cigs
  3. The meaning behind "stock" cars
The Feds got rid of #2, but I think moving away from classic tracks into other areas of the country was a terrible move. I get why they did it, but I never thought it would stick with hr fans outside of the South. But more importantly, the modernity of the cars became an issue. I don't think you can get away from tech because there's no way to regulate it, but it seemed like the mystique of a bunch of good ole boys working on cars is gone now.

Oh, and like everything else, the fact that the suits who run the show seem to hate their fans is a problem too.

NASCAR also lacks personalities outside of a few like Kyle Busch, Hamlin and whenever someone new like Gibbs & Gragson come along, they all get vilified. NASCAR was at its most fun to me when they had field full of characters and backyard mechanics still working on the cars. NASCAR tried to bring back boys have at it for the drivers to police themselves but corporate sponsors are all about their brand being represented well.
