Eventually we will find out that there was something going on behind the scenes this year.

When a normally rational person does something repeatedly irrational, there is a reason for it.

Cal has not, in the past, consistently run a substandard lineup to start games and halves. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, and no rational coach would have started Wagner and Edwards this year the way Cal has. It is irrational and it cost us games.

Therefore, something is going on that has convinced Cal that it is in his OWN best interests to start those two, regardless of the consequences. Everybody in the known galaxy knew if he kept throwing Wagner and Edwards out there, we would lose in the NCAAT. Even Cal knew that, because he isn't stupid. He's never done anything like this before in any other season except for 2021 with Askew and Boston.

So what's going on? Is he being paid to showcase those two? Does he have a figurative gun to his head?

We will find out eventually. Hopefully it isn't in a "tell-all" book by one of the players.

The clincher will be when Reed departs for the NBA. Then you know he's had it with Cal and his nonsense favoritism.

Well, you're going a little deeper than is likely the case.

This is nothing more than an old HOF coach who's covered his bad coaching with talent, but then decided to go a different direction with "changing lives" and making promises and agreements with handlers to showcase players. The moment he decided draft picks were more important to him, that was the start of our dip into mediocrity.

We all do know there is not a good relationship between Mitch and Cal - that's been documented many times. But this situation isn't likely to do with any conspicuous behind the scenes drama - it's just Cal being Cal, being stubborn and a know it all.

Cal guaranteed DJ (and his daddy) a starting spot, not realizing there would be two better options. I think it’s as simple as that.
Let's say you're right.

What kind of a selfish, cancerous teammate would DJ have to be to continue accepting the starting job knowing it was costing his team wins? He should have removed himself from the equation but he didn't. So what you're saying is DJ is just as bad as Cal. IF that's the case, then to hell with him AND Edwards.

All imo:

The reason I said 3 years ago he will burn it down is because I knew some things from someone who kind of knows a thing or two about the program. I know Calipari well from his past stop. i know someone from his old coaching stop. The information you’re getting isn’t all of it but it’s 100% true imo 100%. Imo.

It’s possible Calipari and the administration are at war he wants the money and wants them to cave. If they don’t, he is going to tank it. They know what he’s doing and don’t want to pay him. They want him to go by the contract.

All anyone has to do is pay attention. The guy suddenly can’t beat 15 seeds and look what he did to keep the roster screwed up all year. I think (my opinion) He’s been doing this for a while and if we don’t get rid of him he’s going to burn it down. I might or might not eventually make a post about it all, I’m just waiting to get more later this week. This isn’t an insider thing either it’s clear as day imo.

All of it is my own opinion based on several factors. But no a guy doesn’t suddenly forget that starting players matter, or forgets how to beat 15 seeds. This isn’t about promises. This is about his plan when he signed that contract.

Calipari does not care about his players, this program, or anyone but himself. Notice how he totally tanked Wagner’s draft stock this season. It’s all anyone needs to see. I’m very afraid for the program until he’s out. Calipari is a really bad guy who knows how to sell and lie. I feel really bad for players like Wagner who got caught up in his web. Sheppard too.

This is another reason we need Kentucky men back in control of this program. This is what happens when the men who love our program are pushed out in favor of what we have now. That was the mistake that will kill our dominance and nobody pays any attention to it. None of this happens if our gatekeepers were in any control.

Again just my opinion and if someone thinks it’s crazy I’m actually in favor of hearing it because Calipari scares the shit out of me. I was scared when he got here because I know what he is and I’m terrified now.

Thanks for not bothering to read my post. You didn't even address the irrationality of this situation and the logic behind it. You're just blathering. What an unintelligent, thoughtless reply.

I read it all, Newbie. And I even mentioned Cal's absurd promises / agreements. Everyone knows Cal focuses on his 5-star prospects over other players. They get longer leashes, they get starts without the stats to back it up. This is not a new revelation.

But that you claimed he might be getting "paid" to do it is laughable, unintelligent and a thoughtless point of view. Cal is one of those "loyal" dudes to a fault. He's old school like that. He'll stick with the prospects for his own ego and legacy perception and doesn't need to be paid to do it. There isn't going to be some future tell all book from players that reveal some big behind the scenes pay to play conspiracy.

If something seems weird, it is weird.

Your coach’s choices are weird.

Jones talking yesterday said some things was going on and they could not/ would not talk about it. To me that nothing more than rumors. Who knows but even if it is, it still falls on coach's lap.

I don't pretend to know why he has embraced the suck. But if what you're saying is true, one of the myriad of assistant coaches he's been through, or one of the current assistants, would have used this info as a step up for themselves. Or ratted him out out of a sense of decency.

I’ll tell you right now why Wagner started every game. His daddy was coached by CCC, I’m 1000% sure Cal promised DJ’s dad he would start no matter what

This board's most favorite coach is Rick Pitino, and Calipari owned Pitino. So the idea that Calipari was ever a bad coach is just nonsense.

I agree with this.

I think Cal wants to win. I just think he cares more about being right, and doing things "his way." He also wants to prove how great he is with every decision.

The freshmen are his success and down fall. He was getting these amazing 5-star freshmen and dominating college basketball. It became a bragging point. "I'm not just beating you, I'm beating you with freshmen. That's how great I am. I don't need Juniors and seniors. I can do it with freshmen."

He also LOVES getting kids to the NBA and helping them create/acquire generational wealth. He feels good about it. I think he thinks it's another feather in his cap. At a point, I thought this stuff was going to help recruiting become this dominant machine. And I think he thought that too. But, it really hasn't. We've had good recruiting, even great most of the time.

But now we're losing. We've been losing for 4 straight years. 1 missed NCAA tournament and 1 NCAA tournament win. So now, bragging about doing it with freshmen looks real dumb. Bragging about changing lives--no one wants to hear that when you lose.

He at one point in an off-season made the comment: The fans want me to win championships, but my mission is bigger than that. Well, that's the problem. Getting kids to be millionaires isn't bigger than the university.

Cal is basically a glorified agent. He promises these kids he'll get them lots of money. He gains their trust. He gets them to the NBA. He is forced to do a bad job of coaching some basketball games in between.

Go be an agent. Or, if you insist on coaching games in between being an agent--do it elsewhere. Please.

Cal told you from day one that his goal was "draft picks" not wins or championships....so his line-ups have always been to showcase certain players to improve draft status. This is why his lifetime contact seems so stupid from the fans perspective.

I never "claimed" anything. See, you can't read. Another unintelligent reply.
Interesting, because I read exactly that you're claiming there was something going on. Let's start with the definition of the word "claim": an assertion of something as a fact.

Now let's peruse your original post content. Bolded and italicized words point out your "claim":

Title: "Mark it down" (confidence that your claim will in fact happen as you claim it will)

"Eventually we will find out that there was something going on behind the scenes this year." (a pretty confident sounding claim. "Will" and "there was" are definitive as in you claim it will in fact happen)

"Therefore, something is going on that has convinced Cal that it is in his OWN best interests to start those two, regardless of the consequences." (you literally state something IS going on...this is the text book definition of a "claim" as you are asserting that this something is a fact)

And after those claims, you pose more claims as questions in an attempt to deflect that you're claiming anything at all, but in fact all these are are rhetorical questions that you are using to bury more claims as to what you truly believe is factually occurring behind the scenes:

"So what's going on? Is he being paid to showcase those two? Does he have a figurative gun to his head?"

If you weren't claiming that he was being paid to showcase players and were truthfully seeking others' opinions on why Cal opted to play draft prospects over other players, you would have stopped at "So what's going on?" But you didn't, you continued with rhetorical questions whose purpose is to plant your claims that these are in fact happening, behind the scenes.

And let's not stop there. Here you claim that from these previous claims, we will "find out" which is the case. You never mention that perhaps none of your aforementioned claims may be false or incorrect.

"We will find out eventually. Hopefully it isn't in a "tell-all" book by one of the players."

And you weren't done. Your next claim:

"The clincher will be when Reed departs for the NBA. Then you know he's had it with Cal and his nonsense favoritism."

Clincher of what? Reed going to the NBA because he's offered millions to live a dream means all of your claims are true?

I can definitely see that. I mean you would think that would happen.

The issue is, I don’t believe they would have a clue that’s what he’s doing. See what I mean?

This 👆🏻 he can’t hang his hat on winning titles. So the narcissist in him is driving him to be the coach who puts the most players in the league.

IDK I think the “behind the scenes” is pretty simple and doesn’t need to involve a shadowy conspiracy/Manchurian candidate.

Cal has a galaxy sized ego. When he came to UK he thought he could recruit the best of the best and just win with that. For about 6 years it worked and his ego grew. He could win and get tons of guys to the NBA. He was the trailblazer of OAD and no one else could do it like him.

But then the game continued to change and Cal is getting up there in years. IMO the shelf life of a UK coach is about 10-12 years. Just too demanding to win at that high of a level for longer than that. He’s grown stale and the game has passed him by.

But having a giant ego he’s holding on as long as he can. The $ isn’t bad either.

At this point Cal to me is just kind of a sad has been who can’t face reality. Any of the details of the how and why behind the scenes is secondary to the fact that Cal is just washed up to coach at the highest level that we expect.

Cal was 8-2 against Pitino while he was at UofL. Do you think had cal been at UofL and pitino at UK that would have been the same? Uk > UofL and it’s not even close. And experience? How has Cals experience worked for him the past 5 years.

Pitino learned the hard way the UK fanbase loved UK basketball more than any one coach. He vastly underestimated how UK fans would be toward him regarding the UofL job. I’m sure his ego was bruised that the fanbase that lauded and cheered him now did the opposite and he lashed out. He has said leaving UK was the biggest mistake of his coaching career. Cal may have had an 8-2 record against his UofL teams but no logical person will ever say cal is as good of a coach or motivator that pitino was. Cal’s UMASS days is certainly debatable but somewhere along the way (at Memphis most likely) cal decided Im just getting talent and forgetting about this coaching nonsense. Work smarter not harder which worked for a bit but nothing last forever and adaptation is needed. Cals not adapting!!!!!

Is Cal tanking March on purpose?
As crazy as that sounds, whether it's been the SEC or NCAA tournament, it looks like he deliberately did 0 game planning or adjustments for the other teams. That alone tells me that he is either ridiculously lazy, he doesn't care if we lose, he is trying to lose, or a combination of those things. Either way, in my mind all are grounds for termination.

still doesn't answer why the want for Pitino to coach here again
