Louisville's Stellar Recruiting Class

Cincy flipped a CB from Miami this morning. Cards are now down to #39 and 4 star Deandre Moore is widely speculated to flip to Texas today. All that bluster and UK will most likely finish with a class higher than them :)

What about the QB from CA?

As I and others predicted all along. It didn't exactly take a genius to see this coming.

Brohm has used the portal well to improve his defense. He does need a QB from the portal, one would think.

He is solid commitment I believe. Good player for sure but unless they grab a portal QB relying on him as a True Freshman is bold strategy cotton.
Possibly for the moment but if high ranked players continue flipping elsewhere he may not be far behind.

He is a duel threat Qb, I am not sure if Brohm's system fits with that guy. He likes drop back passers. Translation: doesn't matter how many stars by his name, not a good recruit, because he may not ever play Qb. Satterfield recruited him because he plays the zone read.

I would look for quite a few of Louisville’s Freshman class to enter the portal after one season. Guy close to their program told me that Dr Lynn is promising any 4-5 star kid 100K if their on campus for the start of next season.

Once the kids get their money all bets are off and my guess is they move on. My guess is that’s why you’re seeing so many kids jumping in the portal everywhere. It’s a free pass to get paid one year to the next and shop yourself to the highest bidder.

I despise the rules on NIL and the portal but not the kids getting some money but it’s the Wild West out here. 🤷🏼‍♂️

QB Pierce Clarkson has signed out of California … as has the two local DL and they got a RB to flip from Purdue to go with the Georgia 4* OL

As much as I hate to say, I’d wager clarkson has a very good Shot at having a good career at the vile. He is a pretty big get for them and any coach worth their salt will adjust their scheme to their players … let’s just hope they all suck collectively lol

They kept more than I thought they would honestly. Owens and one of those DBs to Cincinnati were the only four stars they lost. Moore will be big when/if he flips though. Their season will really depend on who they bring in as QB

Neither of the DB’s were 4* according to the 247 composite rankings that I looked at. Moore is suppose to be an early enrollee where ever he goes so I would say we hopefully know something by Friday.

The 4* Jamari Johnson is not announcing until 1/7 during the All-American Bowl. I would say it’s either Oregon or Louisville but Satterfield and UC are trying to make a push.

Someone asked about Woo Spencer and I am not sure how hard Louisville is pushing for him but I think he is announcing sometime next month also.

Clarkson is an interesting case. His father is a personal QB trainer. Clarkson was HIGHLY trained and skilled at the high school level. However, this is a big jump and some scouting reports point out that he has fewer physical skills than the other QB's at his level.

It will be interesting to see if his training carries him through at this level.

That’s all true and fair, probably why he was only rated as 4 star but - you always have that what if factor about most kids and since I want Louisville to always be below us, I wish they were starting with a two star kid lol

Not a bad class considering a coaching change just two weeks before signing day. I would gladly trade away the players that flipped for the coaching change that happened.
This was suppose to be Louisvilles class of classes and the players were committed to UOFL and the their new NIL campaign.

For this class to finish close to #40 in the country is a massive disappointment from where it was a few months ago

But you have to look at that there is currently only 14 high school kids in the class while a lot of teams ahead of Lo you evilly have 20 plus high school kids in their class. Plus the class isn’t done yet as we still have National Signing Day in February.

Rankings & how many Stars a recruit has does not always reflect the success of their future. As most remember Matt Elam was a 5 star.

Lamar Jackson was just a 3 star.

Time will tell if Clarkson being only 6 feet tall will impact his success.

You also have to look that two of their highest commits are most likely choosing other schools soon.

If you put a lot of emphasis on rankings U of L had 6 of the ESPN top 300 kids and we had 2. Also, according to On3 Sports average recruit rankings, we were 35th in the country which was good for 11th in the SEC ahead of only Vanderbilt, Miss St and Missou. With that said we filled areas of need with both freshmen and the transfer portal and I feel our staff gets the most out of their team. I guess it's more of a testament to the uphill battle they face recruiting and why they got so angry at Cal for his comments.

When you hire an established P5 HC, recruiting should not take a huge hit and, in fact, can have an excitement boost. Clarkson was tied to UL through Adidas. An offensive minded HC hire was probably not going to lose him. It looks like a good class to me. History suggests you lose the kids who did not sign, I suspect.

I have been impressed with Brohm’s use of the portal. Some of that was luck, local kids coming home at the right time, but still solid.

Who cares?

How’s our real rival Tennessee doing?

How do we compare to them?
UT finished top 10. SCar finished ahead of us too. Florida sixth overall I believe. I’m very happy with the way we closed the class, but I’m not beating my chest over 2023 class as a whole. Fifth in the division is not getting it done. Sixth in the division if going by composite. That’s not making up any ground.

Agreed, which is why more of our fans need to use Tennessee and Florida as our bar and not Louisville.

Cheer for them when they’re not playing UK just like the other small schools in our state and go on. It’s embarrassing

There is a lot of passive aggression between UK and UL fans on this thread. In the end, I believe most UL fans when they say they'd sacrifice a few recruits to get brohm.

They believe, rightly or wrongly, that Brohm is a coaching superstar that will truly shine when he gets home.

His coaching track record is mixed. On one hand, his W-L record isn't great, he routinely loses games that he shouldn't (e.g. had a losing streak to Minnesota before this year, lost to Syracuse this year, etc), and he has never really had very good defenses at any of his stops (which is one reason why he has never won titles or come super close to it at any stop). Also, he has never been a recruiting juggernaut, so I don't believe him being at UL will change that.

On the other hand, his teams just seem well coached. I have routinely seen average looking quarterbacks over perform their skill set under him. He routinely comes up with at least one game his team "shouldn't win" every year and wins it (he beat Ohio State, he beat Tennessee, he beat Michigan State, etc) (perhaps this "cancels out" his gag game every year). He also is a presence in Louisville, so maybe this will "put him over the top". Also, I would argue that he will have an easier time winning in a sad ACC than he did in the big 10.

So, the proof will be in the pudding. My opinion is that he will do well at UL. He won't win national titles, he won't win acc titles, but he will field a good team every year that will finish anywhere between 6-6 and 9-3. The rivalry game will be harder to win for UK than it has been, but I see no reason why we shouldn't continue winning a lot of them as we have almost every conceivable advantage over UL.

That’s what happens when you change coaches. Brohm actually did a good job of holding most of the class together and getting some really good transfers.
