I’m a gun owner but buying 2000 rounds? Should that be some sort of red flag?
Probably. The sad part is I'm guessing this country could agree on reasonable gun control measures if we all stepped back from our media/propaganda bubbles and thought logically. The fact is this just doesn't happen in other western countries like it does here. It needs to change.

2000 rounds. Just think of all the chaos and damage this man could cause if he is able to get out of the state of Kentucky.

Nope. Just need more good guys with guns (sarcasm)

Tragic and horrible.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those that were murdered.

Mark my words, he will be taken down by another guy/gal with a gun. Lots of law abiding gun owners in that area.

You know a lot of people dropping $500 in ammo a month?

You are one stupid SOB

Some. That’s not a lot. Why so angry?

I’ll wait till we know details. The internet is sometimes wrong.

But what I have hard time comprehending is this:

When some disaster happens like a psycho shooting random people, a certain subset of folks like to say things like “ban guns” and whatnot. Also, in other situations, a certain subset of people want to blame fascist police for things.

So, if crazy people want to kill good people, why in the world should good people not have tools necessary to stop a threat?

If you think 2000 rounds is a lot, you've probably not been to any hands on training and/or spent a day at the range shooting anything other than a bolt action rifle. Every class I've taken required minimum 500 rounds and sometimes recommended up to 1000 for a full day session.

If you're a gun owner, you should attend training, imo, and spend time shooting.

Yes, since we started shipping all of our ammo to Ukraine the cost has been through the roof. But just a few short years ago, it was normal to burn through 400 or more rounds of 9mm, 400 rounds of .223, and fill time shooting hundreds of rounds of .22 in a day at the range for well < $200.

One more thing, anybody who shoots regularly (as you should if you own a gun for self-defense or sporting purposes) should buy bulk and stock up when ammo is relatively low cost and available. Else you'll be paying out the ass or staying home during the droughts. Common sense.

So, anybody hear what happened yet? Reports seem to be all over the place.

Well considering the libs let every felon from South of the border into the country in the last 3 years, a few mass shootings are the price we’re gonna have to pay because in no way can we afford to give up our guns.

Do we actually know what happened yet? Was it a road rage incident on the highway between two cars that led to other wrecks or what?

It is weird to consider an active shooter on an interstate unless it is a sniper from a treeline or something -- which has happened before.

Sounds like a fight between two individuals or groups that spilled over and could have been much worse.

Unless I'm missing something nothing says it's a road rage accident except the mayors statement(which I don't think helps to give out false information). Police even said it wasn't road rage.

Fb gossip from the area says the guys "woman" left him. He made comments about killing a bunch of people. Then bought an ar-15, 2,000 rounds and ended up at an overpass shooting down on the people driving under. He allegedly has military background and his FB profile says had worked as a 911 dispatcher.

Of course that's just the gossip....

I'm not sure how great this mayor is because he's painted a completely different picture than what's been said on police scanners. He also released a video in which he said the community is safe but if you see this individual, he's armed and dangerous and call authorities. Safe community except for the manhunt for a mass shooter within that community. Some real Baghdad Bob stuff there.

As for Wayne, since this affects a community in KY, I assumed there'd be no trolling. Guess I was wrong. You can't blame Mexicans for a young white Kentuckian who went on a shooting spree. Clown.

The statement below from the sheriff's office makes it sound like the mayor's comments on KSR might have been way off.

So what is the exact rumor? This Crouch guy was a 911 operator (and thus has a familiarity with local law enforcement and probably some training) and his old lady broke up with him so he decided to go postal and shoot up 75 from an overpass with an AR?

Here are the statements from the deputy sheriff who is, presumably, trained to give statements to the media.

Acciardo says Couch was not in a vehicle when the shooting occurred. He says this was “definitely not” a road rage situation. However, a motive has not been determined.

As for how Couch was identified as a person of interest, Acciardo says they received a “lucky break.” He would not say what this information was or where it came from.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies were originally called for a report of a gunshot victim around 5:30 p.m. Saturday on I-75 near exit 49.

When deputies arrived, they found nine vehicles had been shot into in both the north and southbound lanes. Five people were found to be seriously injured.

I wasn't blaming Mexicans. I was blaming the Biden-Harris administration who turned a blind eye as Venezuela, Columbia, El Salvador and Guatemala sent their actual criminals up here. There is no F'ING way I'm giving up my "assault rifles" when that went down. And my point was, yeah, we're going to have the occasional mass shooter (who in this case was white), but I'd rather have the insurance policy of armed Americans agains the larger problem which is a completely porous border.
Imagine sitting in your apartment and armed thugs are taking the complex over? Yeah, that's no movie plot. If only it was.

One of my nephews and his wife were driving right through that area at that exact time. His mom cried when she heard that they were safe.

I've lost two relatives (one immediate) to senseless, preventable gun violence, and I don't want to lose any more.

So is this guy still on the loose?
Sounds like it. Sheriff's office is stating they found his vehicle and the AR. If he's dumped them, presumably he's at least made an initial attempt at escape. Usually these things end up in suicide or suicide by cop so it wouldn't surprise me if they find his body in the next few days. I wouldn't bet on that being his only firearm, that's for sure.

UPDATE: Sept. 8 at 1:46 p.m.

According to Laurel County Public Affairs Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the Saturday afternoon shooting is not believed to be a road rage incident. Joseph Couch’s vehicle was recovered last night on a forest service road, where they identified him as a person of interest, Acciardo said.

The AR-15 was recovered this morning from the woods near the interstate.

Authorities currently believe that Couch could be in the area near Exit 49, but unsure of an exact location.

Multiple motives are being looked in to, but according to Acciardo, their main priority is keeping first responders safe and arresting Couch safely.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshal Service, and ATF are currently on scene processing evidence, Acciardo said.

If you want spicy stuff that's in the link(allegations of wrongdoing etc ...)

I don't know him personally, but I know several people that do. They claim he is a great guy. He does a lot of stuff for the community like recently donating money so no student has to pay to go to athletic events in the county. As a mayor he seems to be doing alright. It's just hard to imagine a small town mayor traveling to vacation on private planes and buying a $200,000 Cadillac.

One issue people had is they claimed his house was not in the city limits, but he had a store front that was used as the campaign HQ so he could run for the office. He was legally allowed to run so that's fine.

While campaigning he/his business made several large donations to local fire departments and possibly the police.
Bought the local golf course with hopes to remodel the buildings and save it. Also announced his new company was looking to build in the city. Fast forward the golf course is currently being remodeled and running and his transportation business is being built in the city.

Before the election he hosted a free gas giveaway at a gas station. This was not a campaign event, but a “neutral philanthropic" event according to his lawyer. (More details in the link below)

I believe after the election there was a bad cold spell and he bought and gave away a ton of heaters to those that couldn't afford it. He seems to really back the firefighters and police taking care of them when something happens(injuries, etc ..) So again he seems like a great guy.

Has had some issues the past year. His family and friends donated over $200,000 to Andy Beshears campaign using his credit card. Honest mistake as he says that was okayed during a beshear campaign event by a staffer but later found out it was wrong so they brought up the problem so it could be corrected.

Also it was announced he was suing a few people over social media posts. That and other interesting stuff in this link. Like the social media posts he is suing over, etc...

Jeez, it must be miserable living in fear like this. And it's Colombia. Columbia is a University in NYC. But I guess you'd probably be equally as scared of "leftist" students who go there as you are the Latin American boogeyman.
