Ground Round is a great call. First place you could eat peanuts in the restaurant. Southland Drive was thick with good places back then. IIRC the original Joe Balognas was there, Sir PIzza, Godfathers, Kellys Milk Jug, Szechuan Garden, the original Long John’s Silver when it was actually really good. Hell even Sageser drug store had a mean cherry coke.

You all came over to Darryl's because we kept the var open as late as the law allowed.
I would set the over/under on pitchers of Beer I drank after work at Darryl's at somewhere around 775 😅 amazingly I still can remember the guy that was usually bartending. I think his name may have been Charles.
If memory serves, it was a large pizza platter. We’d usually have the same waitress every Monday night and she knew to bring out a decent size bowl of bleu cheese.
MNF was a thing at that time, great deals all over town.
Restaurant in the Idle Hour shopping center, Banana's Tavern maybe? Had a killer reuben at one time.
The LimeAde drink at Sageser, with those skinny fries, was always a treat !!
Plus, I remember when Cottrell's Bakery had a Maple-Iced Long Johns (unfilled) for only six (6) cents.
Lastly, it was always a treat to smell the Jumbo Cashews roasting in the nut display inside Woolworth's. I rarely could afford them !! 😎

During the early 00s, there was briefly a soul food place on the lower level of South Hill Station. Absolutely amazing. Sadly, like everything else in that spot, it didn't last.
The taco pizza and stuffed crust from Slice of Chicago put 30 pounds at least on me in college.

Yep, Bananas, then turned into O’Neill’s which is still there. Place used to be hopping too. I worked the door there for a while, brother bartended there also.
Someone needs to do a spinoff of best current joints in Lexington by genre, neighborhood, etc.

If that was during the early to mid 80's guarantee we've met. Was a regular stop for a while. Ate at the bar quite a bit so more than likely knew your brother as well. Bartended/waited right down the road at The Cork and Clever (think it's a Columbia's now) and back then a lot of bartenders would visit each other.
This was more mid to late 90’s. Yeah they had a great Ruben and burgers. They kind of overhauled the menu while we were hanging out there so I am not sure if it’s still the same or not now that it’s O’Neils but it was fantastic back in the day.
Tommy Walters once leased a 4Runner that was so trashed inside from his using it as a catering vehicle and his dirty clothes in and out of the seats for 3 or 4 years, Bank One send him a $12,000 excess wear and tear bill. He came in to the dealership and begged our GM to bail him out. The GM had me call Bank One, and I was able to negotiate the bill down to $6,000 for him.
It was so disgusting when he turned it in to us, I paid a service porter $20 to put plastic over the seat and park it in the back for me.
I'm not your man. I don't even eat out in Georgetown much anymore. A few times a year maybe.
I may be incorrect but was t there a Lexington sportscaster/lawyer that owned Bananas?? I want to say he was on Channel 62
I am not sure who owned it before him, but Bobby Murray (Merrick Inn) owned it when we were there. He sold it around 2003-2004 which is when it changed over to O’Neils.
