Leary a massive disappointment so far this year

I thought we were getting a stud, not a dud. He's as bad as any UK starting QB I can remember. This is not mis-communication on routes. This is a guy that flat can't hit the side of a barn with any consistency. I feel bad for Coen.
Thanks for starting this thread. I overlooked his bad throws the first game or two, attributed it to jitters. rust coming back from injury, etc. By now, he has enough body of work to show me that he doesn’t have it.

Yeah, I know he just threw a TD pass to Davis, but I’m ready to see what Sheron and / or Wade can do.

So what you’re saying is I was right.

I’d say it’s most likely the pec changed his ability. Maybe it looks ok in practice but when the rubber hits the road, he’s working with an arm that moves different that’s it did the last 10 years or so of football.
Some of the missed layups are inexcusable. I have no doubt Leary is a great dude, but I hate to say that that injury may've made him lose "it."

His throwing is probably still off, physically, so he missed some easy shots early. The combo of rust, injury, new school, new playbook, drops, and his misses have probably destroyed his confidence.

He'll need to buckle down and get real serious if he want any chance to right this ship, but confidence isn't something you can practice into existence. He's got six more games in college. I'm not hopeful.

It really is just a huge let down, as I thought we finally might have a passer that averages 300 or better yards passing a game. Leary plus our inability to actually catch the passes he makes is not going to cut it against GA at home …..esp. at night! I thought he might be a surprise and show up for the biggest opportunity in years, but instead we Sh%t the bed. Completely undisciplined

It’s the difference in having any kind of chance to compete in games like this. You MUST have a capable QB that can at least make throws to open receivers. Leary is NOT that guy. He has NOT recovered from the injury because his strength was his accuracy and reading the defense quickly, he has done NEITHER very good the entire year.

I hate it for him, Coen, the team and mostly our fans.

Tonights performance isn’t only on Leary. However some of the throws he made tonight have me really scratching my head. Not under pressure and receiver wide open and throws it 5-10yds under. I have to wonder what’s going on here. Is he injured and trying to play through it, or is he a mental case or what. I just don’t see the entire staff being fooled this bad on him unless they knew but it was to late. Sorry but this just doesn’t seem like jitters or rust.

Not sure what evaluation method was used to decide between Leary and Mertz but I’d revaluate how the evaluation is done.
Leary was clearly the better player between those two at their previous schools. I have no way to definitively prove this since nobody actually associated with the team is talking about it, but I don’t think he’s come back the same from his injury. If there was a failure in the process, it was that we seemed to treat it as a foregone conclusion that he would.

Hate to pile on Leary as I'm sure it's the injury that has crushed his game.

Did they work him out? Is there a history on QB's coming back from a pectoral injury and playing well? Think the coaching staff screwed up.

He should be benched. Give someone else a try. Surely we gave a capable backup QB somewhere.

I have no problem Leary taking some heat , but is he the reason we got embarrassed tonight ? Offense is doing decent .. and we have 2 major crushing penalties on the same OL . Not Learys fault we gave up 50 plus ( I assume thats where it landed ) Our D was far worse a problem than Leary . Scheme was stupid . You have to take some chances when you are outmanned .. we played it safe from the first minute in . I'd say the coaches were worse than. Leary . And Leary was bad enough .

He’s clearly not why we lost but he’s horrible nonetheless. Can Sheron process things quickly? Because Coen is scheming them open.

Injuries change things. Surgery changes everything. His arm was never great but now it is just weak and that has affected his accuracy.

That said, his problem seems to be as much in his head as in his arm. He seems to not know plays at all.

Plus, he seems to have a vision issue. I'm not sure if he needs glasses or if he is just to short to see over the line.

His accuracy does seem better when he rolls out and throws on the move, so maybe they need to bootleg and roll him some more.

Do we have a good QB of the future or does Sheron just get the keys next year? I’d hate to lose Coen but doubt we have him long.
