Leary a massive disappointment so far this year

I have no problem Leary taking some heat , but is he the reason we got embarrassed tonight ? Offense is doing decent .. and we have 2 major crushing penalties on the same OL . Not Learys fault we gave up 50 plus ( I assume thats where it landed ) Our D was far worse a problem than Leary . Scheme was stupid . You have to take some chances when you are outmanned .. we played it safe from the first minute in . I'd say the coaches were worse than. Leary . And Leary was bad enough .
He was not the reason we lost tonight, not even close. However, it is pretty clear that Leary is the bottleneck for how good this team can be.

I am not saying bench him. That would slightly absurd right now. Next game will tell me a lot. If we see the same from him against Missouri and we lose, I think it might be time to start thinking about what Sheron can give us.

He's definitely a disappointment even if he isn't as bad as some fans say. Had some critical misses last night. Had one early that was probably a TD and was wide open. Can't miss that.

I do find it curious stoops called him out in the media yet stays silent about the constant wr drops. Many of those on 3rd down.

Bluecephus "I hate Leary" posts are the new "yenser stole my lunch money" posts of the last two years. Lol

As bad as Leary has been, the other quarterbacks on the team must be horrible, or Coen and his Qb coach are not as great in evaluating talent as we thought.

Do we have a good QB of the future or does Sheron just get the keys next year? I’d hate to lose Coen but doubt we have him long.
I saw Sheron at Somerset a few times. He didn't have great arm strength then and I can't say it's better now. His accuracy was good as was his progression.

I don't get the Calipari, I'm play'in my darlins no matter what, vibes from Stoops. I figure that if Sheron was better he would be on the field.

I think Leary has the experience but his throw is affected by something else....like a prior injury.

So its a guessing game now who can step up and perform. If no one else gets the call, what can you do? I'd give second or third string a chance.

Like a few of you said, he's definitely not getting benched. That never crossed my mind. With the injury and rust he's JAG now. I'd love to see him fix it as I don't doubt at all that he wants to win and he seems like a good kid, but it's not going to get any easier with the games we have left and from what I saw of Sheron last year, I don't see that guy ever being a great UK QB. Hope we have or can get a ringer in the pipeline or we'll lose a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail for other positions.

I thought we were getting a stud, not a dud. He's as bad as any UK starting QB I can remember. This is not mis-communication on routes. This is a guy that flat can't hit the side of a barn with any consistency. I feel bad for Coen.
He plays more like a freshman than a supposed senior or whatever his classification is.

Also: is anyone else completely distracted by him never securing his wrist playbook and letting it flop around during live action? 😒 Honestly, can't remember seeing one flop around like that with anyone else...

I swear, that would bug the hell out of me if I was him... I kept thinking he might hit his throws better if he got it secured. 😆

At this point we have a QB who can't throw, doesn't have the ability to run, and doesn't even know when to get rid of the ball when a sack is coming (repeatedly). And for the most part our O-line gave him as much time as one can expect to throw when lined up against Georgia. We are halfway through the season, and he is not getting any better. It's hard to believe we have no one on the bench that is better.

He is horrible. Might as well let Destin Wade play a little bit.

The people who thought Devin was going to be better than Will Levis were really, really wrong.
Agreed....the Leary experiment failed...need to let the young guys play and get experience. The down side of this is if you bench Leary....it really hurts your chances of getting other QBs to transfer in

How? It's not like we'd be discriminating against him because he's a transfer. We took a shot on him and the experiment hasn't panned out thus far. I have no doubt we'll give Leary more chances to swim, as we should, but if he's completing <55% of passes in SEC play, that's a problem. I suspect Leary will have a short leash in the Mizzou game.

And yes, receivers have to do their part too, but throwing into double coverage or to a completely covered up Barion or whiffing on a wide open receiver isn't going to cut it. Transfers understand that.

This X 1,000!!!!

How did Coen get it so wrong about Leary?????
Did the staff see him throw the ball before deciding to take him over Mertz?
Is the injury causing a lingering effect on his ability to make all of the throws needed?
Is the speed of the SEC defenses causing him to LAG on his progressions?
His Pre-Snap reads and ability to identify where the blitz is coming have been TERRIBLE!!!

If you watch the post game comments from Coen after EVERY game, you can see the frustration he has with Leary and the passing game. Leary being here is TOTALLY on him and it's weighing on him.

Some of the missed layups are inexcusable. I have no doubt Leary is a great dude, but I hate to say that that injury may've made him lose "it."

His throwing is probably still off, physically, so he missed some easy shots early. The combo of rust, injury, new school, new playbook, drops, and his misses have probably destroyed his confidence.

He'll need to buckle down and get real serious if he want any chance to right this ship, but confidence isn't something you can practice into existence. He's got six more games in college. I'm not hopeful.
I'm hopeful, just not expecting it.
