LaGerald Vick to Kansas

Cal proved how well he does with elite talent surrounded by no upper classmen at all back in '13 when he went to the NIT. Kansas will finally have some experienced juniors and seniors around those elite freshmen and are going to be a very tough team this year. In 12 years, Self has had only two Rivals Top 10 recruits that did not end up as lottery picks in Selby and Alexander. Cal had FOUR top ten recruits LAST YEAR that will not be lottery picks in the Harrison twins, Dakari Johnson and Alex Poythress.
And how many Bill Self era Kansas recruits have amounted to squat in the NBA? Andrew Wiggins is the only one that could reach star potential. Chalmers, McLemore, and the Morris Twins are mediocre to decent role players. Everyone else that has actually played has been hot garbage.

I am not into revisionist history. If you want to say that Rupp didn't go to Kansas, isn't a Jayhawk and that he isn't part of the Phog Allen Coaching Tree, that's cool. It's not correct, but whatever. You probably don't think that Cal is part of the Jayhawk family too. Married a Jayhawk. Got his first coaching job in Lawrence. Cal is a part of the Phog Allen Coaching Tree too. He was my coach at a Larry Brown Basketball Camp. He is great guy. I liked him then. I like him now.

Man, KU fans are pieces of ...work. Claiming Rupp and Cal as Jayhawks is just so funny to me. I guess your tradition is what you guys hang your hats on because only having 3 titles is embarassing for a supposed blue blood.

I thought you guys would make it past the first page before someone stated "we didn't really want him anyways".

Another idiot who thinks that he knows something. FWIW, we had a MOD tell us the exact same thing on HOB before Vick committed to Kansas. Now go ahead and dispute that, too.

Going to KU doesn't make him more of a Jayhawk than a Wildcat. He also attended New York University. Does that make him a Bobcat or whatever their mascot is/was? If you want to pretend he was a Jayhawk, then so be it, but to imply that Rupp Arena is named after a Jayhawk is bs.

Rupp Arena wasn't named after wet behind the ears, teenage Rupp that attended KU. It was named after one of the greatest coaches ever, in any sport. It was named after a man who coached the Kentucky Wildcats from 1930 to 1972. During that time, he won an unprecedented 876 victories, winning four national championships, twenty-seven SEC championships (82.2% winning) and turning Kentucky into one of the greatest collegiate basketball programs of all time.

To put it in perspective for you, Rupp lived in the state of Ky. and coached UK for literally more than half his life. His and his family's roots are deeply planted in the state. When he died the state flew flags at half staff in his honor, he's buried in the Lexington Cemetery, and his tombstone reads "UK Basketball Coah 42 Years".

He is a Wildcat through and through, and for to come here and put that crap in your sig is very disrespectful, and I will continue to report you until it is removed.

Again, whatever

Again, whatever

Halstead, can you answer a question for me. With such a rich tradition and coaching tree how come Kansas hasn't seen more success over the years? If you went back 100 years to 1915 and were to predict the most successful basketball program or programs over the next 100 years, surely Kansas would be at the top of the list. Obviously Kansas is a blue blood and has three national championships but it could easily said they have fallen significantly short on many occasions. I mean they never went on a run like UCLA did, they haven't had the consistent success of Kentucky. Heck you look at a program like Duke and they didn't even win their first title until 25 years ago yet they have already surpassed Kansas. Is there a reason or reasons you can point to for the shortcomings?

I've never understood UK fans going to other sites and flaming or other fans coming here and flaming. If you wanna have rational discussion (most of the time) go to the national boards. I don't think I can even count on one hand the number of times I've been to the UNC, UL, Duke, or Kansas sites.

I also like how a UK fan (me) gets their post deleted because it criticized the mods, while the Kansas troll can continue to post and bait.

Silly me, I thought this was a Kentucky forum? Apparently, new rules say we should interact with these clowns.

Your posts were deleted not for criticizing moderators, which at times I'm certain we need, but for the manner in which you did so.

It is a Kentucky forum. We have long invited other fan bases to join in, respectfully and with tact of course. And at no juncture is it mandated or even suggested that anyone interact with other fans. That's a choice.

Good post. The childish bickering is NOT an asset for this board, and I hope the Admins & Mods decide to take a strong stand to keep it as minimal as possible.

Saying that, they do have a life away from this board, so they can't watch the posts with a microscope. It is simply up to each poster here to post in a mature manner, while still having fun with it.

ESPN said he may reclassify. Thought that was a given, but maybe not. He won't get many minutes this season, but he might want the year of practice and learning the system.

Kentucky fans need to relax.

Kentucky has beat Kansas in the actual game ever since Cal has come to Kentucky. Kansas has basically a must win against Kentucky, in the Phog this year, when they are up and Kentucky is down, that doesn't even make things ok. If Kentucky beats Kansas this year, in Kansas, there is no hope for them as long as Cal is at Kentucky.

If Ulis is the PG we think he is, it should be fun to watch this game. I want to see him playing in a hostile environment and it doesn't get much worse (for opponents) than the Phog.

That's no different than if I had said it. Mods on fan websites aren't given inside information.

Yeah I'm sure TJ Waller has not an inkling. I'm sure none of this had to do with the surprise visit by Murray either. You all did it. You beat us again. I'm sure you will sleep better tonight adding a 3 star guard. Great job.

That makes what Self has accomplished that much more impressive. He hasn't done it with a ton of guys like Anthony Davis and John Wall who are NBA megastars. Cal didn't develop those guys into that and more than Self developed Wiggins into the future star that he is. They just had the good fortune to have landed those guys.

Give Calipari the 2012 Kansas Jayhawks roster and tell me if you think he would have played for the national title. Yes, recruiting is part of the job but saying that a coach isn't that good because his players didn't go on to be NBA megastars is just plain stupid. The college coaches of those players had virtually nothing to do with their NBA success.

Self's 2008 KU team was much more talented than the 2008 Memphis team and he was lucky to win that game. Self's 2010 team was flat out
loaded and did not even make the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tournament.

Stick to focusing on Self's regular season accomplishments; you have a much stronger case.

So, what you're saying is that your coach is a bad recruiter?

He has gotten great results with players ranked in the 15-75 range and has only recently started breaking through into more Top 10 recruits. Despite having lower ranked players, Self and Kansas have had as many NBA lottery picks in the last five years (eight) as Kentucky has had in the last FIFTEEN years.

Sure, KU fans would like to see them do better in the tourney on a more regular basis but such is the nature of the sport these days. I am glad we're in it every year with a shot to do well.

We're happy to have him because we needed a wing for the World University Games coming up with Greene being out after hip surgery and Svi not being eligible due to not being a US citizen. Besides that, he won't be playing much next year.

Who needs more NCAA success when you have 11 straight B-12 titles. That's what's really important. Also, it's UK 9, KU 8 in the last 5 drafts, but I shouldn't rain on your parade. You guys tend to find anything to celebrate over actual titles.
