LaGerald Vick to Kansas

http://247sports.com/Bolt/Four-star-wing-to-Kansas-37322923

I guess we're set in the backcourt for next year. Hopefully Hawkins is ready to play more minutes.

I think Dom has been ready for it for a year now...He is much better than a lot of folks give him credit--guess cause he is not a four-five *...If not for his D last year in the tournament we don't make it as far as we did...I am more than comfortable with him getting more minutes...GO DOM!!!

I wish people would stop saying we don't need anymore players. And please stop saying that Willis will contribute...it ain't happening!
At least someone gets it. Willis is not that good guys all because he is in a UK uniform doesn't mean he is that good.

Most on here hate him, but.....

@jerrymeyer247: Kentucky making inroads w Caleb Swanigan. This progress hurt LaGerald Vick recruitment. Concern of Poythress playing wing if UK gets Biggie.
I thought he was more of a 2 than a 3.

The NBA talk is killing Calipari whether some want to understand it or not.. He has got to get out front of the issue. At this point it is CLEAR platoons have absolutely nothing to do with this situation. There is far too much room on our roster to take credible the notion that "playing time" here is of convern to these kids.

Cal isn't going to just whiff 6 times in a row on his main late signing period targets without there being an issue. This isn't just the class either, and signing a new deal is not going to help this at all. Some of thee guys want to play more than one year. Actually, lots of them do. It appears now some of these recruits dont trust he's a guarantee over the next 2 to 3 years.

The sky isn't falling, but it's something Cal needs to get out in front of if he's going to continue to put value on recruiting so many OAD's. We missed on even more recruits than we really know this year because of wasting so much time on guys who never came. I'm sure Cal is livid at this situation right now, but If he won't get out in front of it then it means he's open to change eventually and we will just have to recruit with that in mind; however, you won't get it both ways. You will not land consistent top 3 classes while flirting with the NBA and not putting it to bed. Buying into the coach speak is what this board does - recruits and their families, however, don't. Saying you're not interested while its known you in fact have been is all that matters as far as optics are concerned.

I was told last week by coaches here in memphis he's Kansas bound. You can find the post where I made the statement and of course was dismissed pretty quickly. I'm not surprised by any of this.

You really believe that many of these kids want to play 2-3 years in college? I would bet it's an incredibly small percentage of the top players that feel that way. There will be a few that need to stay or have to stay, but I doubt any of them are hoping to play in college for multiple years

To me, this can be seen as potential good news on Murray (who should be, and I believe is, our #1 priority).

1. I seriously doubt that Vick would've committed to Kansas without at least following through on his visit here given how excited he was to receive an offer from us on Friday.

2. I don't think taking both Murray and Vick was ever an option given the current construct of our roster. I suspect that Vick was being recruited as a backup option if Murray began to look unlikely and/or to add a little pressure to Murray in trying to get a commitment from him.

3. It seems reasonable to me to conclude that the report that we cancelled Vick's visit might be accurate. The only reason I can imagine that we would offer on Friday and then cancel his visit 2 days later is that the staff is suddenly feeling better about Murray. At least I hope that's the case.

Actually I do think lots of these kids enter college expecting to stick around a few years or at minimum understand OAD can't happen for all. With this class especially, players like Zimmerman for example will not be OAD players. The thought that Cal might not even be at UK in a year or two could mean everything for a player like him. I don't think all players fall into this category, but the NBA talk has effected him with this class imo.

I think theres a chance it was used after the Cleveland talk, so maybe its isolated, but I'd still get out in front of it, however that may be.

I'm not sure he's supposed to "get out in front" of the NBA talk if he's uncertain himself. I don't think he'll leave, but we don't know for sure.

I think he's earned the right to at least consider his options, if that's what he truly wants. I'd much rather have him silent if he is a bit uncertain than lie to our faces over and over again.

I was never too excited about Vick, didn't think he was coming here. Kansas won't do anything this year as usual. Not with Self as coach. 72-40.

Strange year. Very possibly Vick would have been recruited over as he may at Kansas. If UK canceled his visit the Cal knows things we don't. With all that I really like our current players.

If we add Murray and Swanigan we are preseason #1 for the third yr in a row.

I hope not. I'd rather let someone else deal with that for a change. I'm fine with "under the radar" in being top 5.

I'm not upset over this one at all. We already have Mulder and Matthews that can both play the 3, and even Poy (sorry Jason and others) in a pinch as well. And I guess Willis as well if I want to really make myself feel good about the depth of that position.

I'm glad he's not coming here. We could use another player or two, but I just don't think he would have helped us much next year, maybe longer. Ironically, he's going to get just as buried on Self's bench- he'll probably get less time there as a freshman than he would have at Kentucky. And I'm still very suspicious about Kansas negative recruiting against us. Poor stupid kids.

People are so scared of Willis playing???? Go watch the bahamas game again!!!! Also im quite sure willis could have put up those gawdy number WCS did against Wisconsin

Cal won't strike out for the spring. There were rumors we canceled Vicks visit, prior to this news of his commitment to ku. We will get one or borh of Murray, Swanigan.

Again, no poster on here knows that Cal to the NBA is doing anything. That noise has been a lot louder in previous years. Cal was clear at the HOF speaking of staying at UK and just received another extension.

A couple kids stayed home.
One target went to a Cal...nothing to do with Calipari.
We lost to Kansas on a couple, happens every other year.

Vick publicly stated KU was his dream school.

The NBA talk has always been around and will continue to be.

Really starting to get irritated with Self. This one doesn't really bother me much though, as I was one of those not really gung-ho about getting Vick. Still, he's one of the coaches that regularly beats out Cal for recruits.

Vick would have been a nice long term investment.

It will have no impact on this season, IMHO.

Mulder and Matthews will hold down the 3 spot (unless we somehow get Murray or if we land Swanigan and we go big again with Poythress at the 3).

As it stands now, we are looking at this rotation:

G Ulis(35)/Briscoe(5)
G Briscoe(30)/Mulder(5)/Hawkins(5)
G Matthews(20)/Mulder(15)/Poythress(5)
F Poythress(25)/Lee(10)/Willis(5)
F Labissiere(30)/Lee(10)

I am ready to roll with this lineup, if need be.

If it is NBA-related, I don't know what you want Cal to do. He is not going to get on national TV and swear on his mother's grave that he will never take an NBA job. So, other coaches use the rumors against him. Hasn't hurt much in the past. I know everyone is looking for answers, but it could just be one of those years that was coming. 6 straight amazing classes, so it was bound to end someday, and it's not like this class is a bust or anything. Just a combination of a huge exodus and a bunch of misses. Not sure there is any one thing to point to though.

I keep hearing that Coach Cal needs to shut down the rumors on him to the NBA. What I have seen so far is that the Pelicans will go after Tom Thibodeau from Chicago and if not him they have a couple more candidates. Chicago Bulls have a mess to deal with their Head Coach and his contract and if they do let go of Tom Thibodeau he will go to New Orleans. Chicago has mentioned a couple of Coaches if Thibodeau leaves this year. Also, when Coach Cal was at the Press Conference for the Hall of Fame he spoke enough for me on how happy he is at Kentucky and wasn't leaving for the NBA. This recruiting period in the spring had nothing to do with Cal to the NBA or one of these 5-star kids would have come out and said that Cal was headed to the NBA. With Newman at MSU he was promised the world by Howland and if Rick Ray was still there he would have come to UK. Then you had "Slice" Rohrssen to St. Johns and that hurt us some on the Diallo to Kansas. I believe if "Slice" stays at Kentucky then he and Cal gets Diallo here at UK. Then Zimmerman wanted to stay at Home at UNLV. Brown was never ours to get and many said he would go to Cal. So, it was just weird recruiting period and had nothing to do with Cal to NBA or the Platooning. We still have the #2 recruiting class with 4 great guys and Ullis, Lee, POY, Hawkins, and Willis returns. Hopefully something positive happens with Murray or Swanigan or both.

FWIW...UK insider already said earlier today, before KU was announced, that UK called it off. He committed shortly afterwards. I'd take it as good news on someone else ;)
I thought you guys would make it past the first page before someone stated "we didn't really want him anyways".

Even BCG did better against Self when recruits were down to our two schools so yep I agree.

These are the type of kids Self thrives on. 4 star kids. But he can't coach a lick with elite talent.

Cal proved how well he does with elite talent surrounded by no upper classmen at all back in '13 when he went to the NIT. Kansas will finally have some experienced juniors and seniors around those elite freshmen and are going to be a very tough team this year. In 12 years, Self has had only two Rivals Top 10 recruits that did not end up as lottery picks in Selby and Alexander. Cal had FOUR top ten recruits LAST YEAR that will not be lottery picks in the Harrison twins, Dakari Johnson and Alex Poythress.

If the Cleveland jobs opens and Cal doesn't take it then the NBA talk goes away for good. Until then it hangs over his head.

You all still suck. You're gonna be hot garbage again this year (still good enough to win those shitty Big Whatever conf banners) and still show why Self can't coach elite talent.

Why do you schmoes only show up after a recruiting victory?

They got a 4 star reclassifier and they still have no good guard play. Yeah, KU fans are gonna get delusional and say their guard play will be fine. But it won't. Watch and see. I was right about their overrated team last year and I will be right again this year. All hype.

You turds haven't advanced past the Elite Eight with the likes of the Morris twins, Selby, Henry, McLemore, Wiggins, Oubre, etc. That said, just why in the hell are you running your mouth about underperformance when your coach is the chief titan of underachieving?

Go roll in some honey and find a bear to play with.

The Morris twins weren't anything close to Top Ten recruits. Self developed them into good NBA players. Marcus was Class of 2008 #29 and Markieff was #49. Neither was McLemore or Oubre. And all I said was that it isn't at all unusual for a group of good young players to not do well when they have no productive upperclassmen to show them the way. Kentucky's roster faced that issue in 2013 and KU's did in '14 and '15. Both teams look to have a nice mix of talented youth and excellent upperclassmen for next year so I expect great things from them both.

Vick is a great pick up for KU...but if you'd like to see a screen shot of the info I'd be glad to text it to you.
