Took the decommits in stride and still finished strong! Sitting here imaging what our class would have looked like had a certain previous coach been at the helm and had to deal with last minute decommits.

For as bad as we finished this year, good class that fills some needs and adds some much needed quality depth

Agreed. This is a good class. The concerns over the past week were legitimate but the staff has stepped up. Hopefully we win 7 or more this season and not have to scramble on the last couple days.

Well, we're still 13th out of 14 in the SEC. We have to do better than that next year.

we are 12th at the moment! ahead of vandy and UF, and nipping at Mizzous heels, and about 4 spots behind UL

Missouri says hi.

There's a big difference between being 13th in the SEC with a 30ish ranked class, and being 13th in the SEC with a 60ish ranked class. From a talent standpoint, we have closed the gap considerably over the last 3 years. Now we need to see what the coaching staff can do with them.

Well, there's 13th in the SEC, and then there's 13th in the SEC. Big difference between being #35, say, nationally, and finishing 13th in the league, vs say 63rd and finishing 13th in the league. If you're at 35, you're still within the margin of competitiveness - meanin, you're close enough in raw talent that with some luck, development and coaching, you can compete. Hard to do that at 63 - just asking for too much. I don't think that's rationalizing, by the way, I was saying it when we were finishing at 63......

No question we need to do better. What we really needed for now was to avoid disaster. A couple days ago this was looking like a step backward. We succeeded in keeping pace with this class which is a victory.

As for 13th out of 14 that's subjective and shouldn't be the goal. All SEC teams are near the top and there is little difference as long as the point totals are close. For example if we average a 3.1 star recruit and the 5th place team averages a 3.2 then there is no real disadvantage. If we average 2.1 and the 5th team averages 3.2 then its an issue. Point is as long as we are getting competitive recruits then it is a win. Finishing high in the overall rankings isn't and shouldn't be a goal. Getting the pieces you need to compete is the goal and that doesn't necessarily translate into overall team rankings.

but were 12th?

This looks to be a top 40 class nationally when the smoke clears. You can win some games with top 40 talent. I agree with the OP, good job by the staff. Anyone expecting us to have a top 10 class that competes with the rest of the SEC on signing day is not dealing with reality. That is just as delusional as expecting the rest of the SEC to compete with us in basketball recruiting.

Well we can eventually get there but we gotta show some wins. Win 7 or 8 games this year and next year's class could be up there. Especially with the talent in Ohio and KY next year.

Yep, real nice save by this staff IMO. Miggins, Bell are huge and I think the other core guys that already stuck with us are real players that will play a key role going forward. As I say over and over it's proven that 10 to 12 guys each class will end up being the contributors and if Conrad, Jones, Stenberg, Brown Walker, Daniel, Provitt, Richardson, Westry, Greenwoodall stick I think we'll have as good a core group of future contributors as the other two classes.

Win 7-8 games next season and we will explode.

Agree with this. Particularly the comment about 'rest of the SEC to compete with us in basketball recruiting'. I really hope the day will come when we can have that 'special' year every once in awhile but right now I hope we can get 6-7-8 wins on a fairly regular basis and keep the momentum moving in a positive way.

I will say it looks like UK has weathered the storm but anyone who thinks getting just 5 wins next year won't repeat and probably worsen from the results we saw this past recruiting season is crazy. Wins are the key for next season's recruiting and beyond. Let's go get them boys!
