KSR POSTGAME

Every one of you will be on here next season. Every single one. I am angry too, doesn't mean I quit. And if we field a good team, which is a strong possibility, the fans will be back as well.
Cal can not afford to underachieve next season, and he knows that. That being said, he is going no where anytime soon.

This team did as good IN SPITE of Cal.

He hurt them and did nothing help them.

his offense is no non existent and easy to scout
#15 seed saint peters ate it up.

embarrassing

I hope he resigns or gets fired but that won’t happen.

I hope nobody shows up at Rupp next year start with Madness

Matt Jones still rallying behind Cal, 7 years of torture isn't enough, BRING ON YEAR 8!

Matt just saying the same things he has said the past 3-4 years after every season, "what used to work doesnt work anymore, Cal needs to do something new, and I think he can do it, I don't agree to fire Cal."

I mean are we Stockholm Syndromed at this point?
This is a bad time for uk there's no doubt, but exaggerating the 7 year comment doesn't help anything. Our 2017 team was one of the most fun teams we've had. We were looked at as a serious contender for that title. A buzzer beater eliminated us.
Same for 2019. Pre season the whole fan base was on fire because of the Bahamas trip. By Jan everyone knew we had something. Pj got hurt and again we lost by 1 pt in over time.
How is any of that a bad program?
March of 2020 is when the program declined. The night covid shit the nation down. Since that night we've had very little to be excited about

I'm ready to clean up the mess and start new

We can field a good team but that doesn't matter if the captain of the ship is a train wreck.

He couldn't afford to underachieve THIS SEASON and he KNEW THAT. Still yet, here we are. This fanbase is done with him.

Thats just it KT . . . I"m not angry. I was frustrated during the game but nowhere near how worked up I would have been years ago. The apathy for me set in a few years ago. Before that it was blasphemy to miss the opening tip of a game (any game regular season, pre-season etc) but the past couple years I missed several games entirely, just didnt watch. Told myself, I cant believe Id ever come to a point where I literally didnt miss seeing a game.

That's why you started seeing the numbers go down at home games, there was already a certain level of this creeping in. After last year it had hit a new level. When I'd come to this site I'd always go to the football side first and MAYBE come over and check out the basketball side now and then.

This team kind of changed that because they captured the fans back with their genuine character and personalities. Just good kids, and I hate this for them. But from a purely basketball point of view the big let down again this year will just build on the apathy going forward. I'm telling you like everybody else I've already gone round the circle of family, friends, and co-workers and the overwhelming sentiment is not anger, its "I'm worn out and done with this". That doesnt mean they are quitting, as they will be back and checking in like you say, but it does mean their level of passion will not be the same. Scar tissue builds up.

Some lady called in last night and said that she never wanted to hear the term Swaggy Cal again and I have to agree with her. You are Swaggy when you have results to back it up. When you don't it's called arrogance.
Yep, heard that caller too. Matt has been the one dude who has made that comment popular. He used it plenty of times this year. But, it is over.

I rolled over around 2:00 a.m. woke up and said damn we lost to St Peter's. I'm not dreaming am I?
It's weird how much less it bothers me as time goes on...

I think it's when expectations are unfulfilled, that we are most upset.

The past 5 years, I expect us to fail spectacularly.

Watching Cal tense up late in games, and literally trying to slow the game down has made games nail bitters that should have been blowouts, has been excruciating.

He's started the slow down game with 8 minutes left and us up 12, and almost lost games just this year.

I absolutely HATE Cal's fear of losing, and it's started to become a self fulfilled prophecy for our program.

Oh well...On to real life important things.

It's actually a fabulous thread, just hate it's about how bad we are.

His voice reaches out to recruits too. Not good
I’m sure rival recruiters have been pointing this out for awhile. To have an nba guy do it just magnifies it for a prospect . Cal better hope our NIL package is STRONG.

He can't, he has been taught from toddler on that he is the smartest man in the room.
This might be the perfect description of Matt Jones. He’s been controlled by his control freak mom since the day he was born. He still is now. And that has made him the control freak he is. He can’t stand someone disagreeing with him. He can’t stand someone interrupting him. Most of the time he won’t even let his co-hosts finish a thought. He’s the absolute worst. He’s a spoiled 12-year old in a 45-year old man’s body. For those of us who used to have exchanges with him on message boards dating back to the 90’s, he’s the same punk teenager now he was back then.

Matt and Ryan and even Shannon going pretty hard on Cal today. Probably not enough to people's liking but they aren't hedging on who is at fault and they are being specific from coaching to philosophy and the stupid things Cal says.

Coach K did that one year against Tubby when we came out and were lighting them up. Took his starters out, we didn't extend the lead, he put his starters back in, they go on to win by 8 or 10 points.
I was at that game, and could not believe what K was doing. Well it worked and proved sometimes it takes extreme measures to get a message across.
It pains me to this day to remember that game.

They can only go so far as people have mentioned and the elephant in the room is we all know he isn't going anywhere until he wants to unless people just stop going all together and too many casual fans for that. Cal has UK and Barnie by the balls.

Did you hear that… Tubby NEVER lost in the first round of the tournament and made it every year. Cal has missed 2 tournaments and just lost in the first round like Billy G. I just don’t understand why so many will defend Cal.
I have one question on that NIT year.

Do you recall that Noel was lost for the year? That was the main factor with us crumbling that year.

I accepted the fact we didn't get to the tournament that year. Until the performance AT Robert Morris. Completely ashamed we couldn't win that game.

Since then, I have no sympathy towards a Cal team. He is learning to lose every way possible.

We aren’t here because of Calipari. We were here long before him and will be here long after him. I quit posting for four years after the 2015 season. For a few reasons, but one of them was Cal. I’ve talked about Cal fatigue for awhile now. I’ve had it for several years. I haven’t called for him to be fired. I’m just tired of his act. And now that he’s turned our basketball team into a joke, that fatigue has grown to a much higher level. I wasn’t even mad last night. It’s just frustration at this point, because I know it’s not going to change. We’re not talking about a bad moment or two. This has been a long, slow downward spiral since 2015, with no end in sight.

Matt is doing what Matt does. Once the rest of the media takes a stance, he joins in. He’s not a leader. He’s a follower. He doesn’t have the balls to be a leader.

Yeah he can only go so far. Matt just mentioned that Cal and he are not basically friends anymore due to the show and Cal thinking they criticize too much.

Dang Blue, 2016-2019 were not nearly as bad as 2020-2022 on here and for the team's success. lol.

My little brother passed away in 2015. He was my best friend and sports partner our entire lives. That was why I initially got away from this site. But it turned into just being tired of Cal’s act.

It’s not just about wins and losses. It’s the rotating rosters every year, the same old worn out excuses, the refusal to run a modern offense, etc. When he took his hands off the reigns mid season and let the team run, I thought he was finally changing. This team needed to run. We were one of the best teams in the country when he let them run.

But as we got closer to March, he pulled back on the reigns. We hadn’t gone more than two games all season without scoring 80 points. We failed to reach 80 in each of our last four games. We couldn’t even score 80 against St Peters with an overtime. And don’t get me started on the defense. St Peters offense ranked last among all tourney teams. Dead last. And they lit us up for 85 points. They were the worst shooting team in the tourney. They shot 54% against our D.

The biggest frustration is that none of us expected another team like 2015

but we did expect a recognition the recruiting landscape had changed with Duke entering the picture , and his response was to hire old friends as coaches, give certain players who weren't ready to contribute a long leash in preparation for their NBA career and neglect the development of multi year players who went on to contribute at other programs.

All the while arrogantly stating his focus was on players above the program, that he'd lose games to get a player ready and he had an obligation to their parents - and that wasn't coach speak or a recruiting ploy, it was a self fulfilling prophecy where the result was a train wreck of a season we as fans couldn't even imagine.

I'm still trying to process this season. A team that was on track to be a national title contender implodes in 3 weeks with a full complement of players. Its inexplicable.

But that’s a problem we deal with, with the Cal system. A unreliable bench or developed players who can step up. Literally one player goes out and the whole season goes down the drain. UK isn’t the only one who has to worry about injuries.

Kyle Tucker really let Cal have it.Talking about coaches arguing on the sideline about how to play defense. Not a good look.

The apathy started before last season. There have been quite a few of us vocal on here about this farce for several years running. I'll not be watching the rest of the tourney. Reds first spring game is tomorrow. It's baseball season in my house as of now.

Carinals astros today. I’m done with college basketball for now. Cal needs to go.

Yes indeed. Spring training baseball....feels almost like going to a minor league game. Just fun and pure. I think we're all chasing Milwaukee this year

CORRECTION: Everyone is chasing the cardinals until someone can top us in the national league. 11 World Series rings etc you know how this goes.

Why did y’all stop at 5!?!?!?!?!?!? Don’t stop man, keep going!!!!!!

This year sadly yes we’re chasing Milwaukee which is hilarious to me. Mozeliak needs to be fired.

At least the Reds have been straight up with me this offseason. I know I'm in for 162 games of dumpster fire goodness. Cal got our hopes up that maybe, just maybe he'd gotten his shit together and then we turn to shit the last month of the season.

I don't know if everyone will be here next year or not. If I am still alive I'll be here. I am a lifelong Reds and Bengals fan since the 70s.
Try being a fan of the Bengals pre Burrow or the Reds for the last several year. 1995 since the last playoff series win.
Sports no matter who you root for. End in disappointment far more than they do in championships.

Damn, you dug deep to find this thread.
Do you ever listen to KSR? I don’t listen a lot, but I did tune in yesterday and he kept talking about how he cried when he saw his mom on that wrestler show. And how cute she was etc. Just seemed kind of odd coming from a grown man. I guess you just have to hear it. Lol.

I listen to KSR, yes. I didn’t think it was odd at all, he obviously has a close relationship with his mom and they've probably been through some hard times together.
His mom called in and got quite emotional too.
Lots of people pile on Matt for pretty much everything he does, or says, but the reality is, he’s just a regular guy and everyone isn’t built the same.

dag, I just went back and read my post from March 18, 2022 and now I'm pissed off at Cal.

well, to be fair, I've been in a perpetual state of pissed off at Cal for quite some time, but I don't normally get riled up about it in mid September

I would say if your father killed people in a drunk driving incident and went away to jail and you were raised by your mom, who was also very successful and laid the foundation for you to be very successful, the potential for a close bond is there. There are a lot of things to gripe/make fun of about Matt, I would say that his relationship with his mom isn't one of them.

I don't understand why anyone would ever have any problem with a positive, loving relationship between a mother and son. This is especially true when a father isn't in a child's life and when it is an only child situation.

Some bizarre takes here...

You can always tell when a child is logging in to their parents account. This is what a kid thinks will happen when they grow up.

You'll learn, that actually as you get older, the more stuff makes you tear up. Especially your parents.

I'm thinking TheWyldcat came from a household like the one I grew up in. Parents divorced and mom is a 'tough-love' type of person with a temper.

You haven't lived until you've seen your mom get pissed at a toaster, rip the cord out of the wall, then launch it out the back door to join the other appliances that pissed her off at some point.

It wasn't until my step mom came along in my teenage years that I learned what it was like to have a mom like the one Matt has. It took me a while to get used to that, but had she never popped into my life, I might be one of those guys that thinks having a soft spot for your mom is weird.

Appreciate you all sharing your experiences and feelings and thoughts. People just think different
