Kentucky vs Arkansas Game Thread

Pope has never won an NCAAT game. Why do you think he gives us a reasonable chance to do so? We are in 9th place in the SEC with more losses coming. We will be a 7/8/9 seed in the tourney.
We have a better shot than your boyfriend Calipari. Cal took everyone. Pope had to scrap together a team that now has 2 main dudes out and another player that is nowhere near 100%. When we are healthy, we are a final four caliber team with nowhere near the burger boys that Cal has. Pope isn't perfect, but trashing him right now is just retarded.

no, he lost games like Oakland and St. Peters.

until Pope does that, I'm not going to be whiney drama queen. But hey, that's what you're good at. Stick with your strengths
We're the worst defense in all power 6 conferences thats a problem.
He's not them right guy for the job. But cool, you keep on believing. I don't blame you.

This game did it for me. You can't let this happen.

We all would. But after this, how can you be sure one leads to the other? I really like Pope, but he and his players shit the bed tonight.
The only thing that I am sure of is that Pope has done more with less than the coach who went to Pigsville. I also realize that Pope has more talent coming in next year than he ever had on his previous teams. If he fails to take advantage of talented teams, then my position will change. Until that happens, I will give him the benefit of the doubt because he had to quickly put together a team with very little time to do it. If you recall, coach pigsville made certain that there would be nothing for the new coach to work with.

Dude, Arkansas had this circled and played the best game they possibly could. We have 2 dudes out and Carr is still not close to 100%. Not making excuses, but relax.
They had one of the highest ranked recruits in the nation out. His future job is the NBA. Our guys out are going to try and find a job just like we have. No excuse about having players out. We just stunk it up tonight. I still think they may be better without the future NBA guy.

Yeah cool man!! Let’s not say “Calipari” because we are so above it!! Nice! How’s that working out? Two things can be true: we moved on rightfully so but Pope has no aura in an era where you need it. We aren’t relevant.

1 guy out.
2 guys out and 1 with back issues.
Math.

Honest question - how many years into his tenure will pope make a final four? He’s an exactly coach but the duvaaaaaaal vibes really hurt us.
Hate to tell you, but he's never going to make a ff.
I see way too many red flags with his style. You can't be this bad of a defensive coach and make a ff. No way.

THANK YOU! Since when did we we become the excuse train?? It’s such a bad look.
Arkansas got housed at home by Oklahoma. They lost at LSU. We just let them score 90, because we gave them open shots all night long. This is awful coaching. I'm seeing too many red flags and too many fans that are ok with losing.
This is not okay. We are one of the worst defenses in a of college basketball. No thank you

Rough night for the cats. Trying to find a positive on a tough night.

-#3 IowaSt lost at home to #95.

-Louisville lost to a team with a losing record.

-Kansas lost and gave up a 21 pt lead.

-UNC lost again, that's 10 and Dook continues to beat no one.

-7 MichSt lost to unranked.

-9 Marquette lost at home.

-6 HOU list at home.

-14 MissSt lost by 27 at home.

-5 FL lost by 20

-24 Vandy lost by 30

I mean it's crap but there are a few silver linings.

Gee, thanks Captain Obvious for your first point. It's not just that we lost, it's *HOW* we lost. Secondly, your analogy is inapposite.
Does how a team lose count for an extra loss? We lost because Arkansas was able to do what they haven't done all season, hit 3 pointers. But hey, don't let me get in the way of your pity party. This can be accomplished by not reading any more of my posts because you won't find anything in them that will support your whining.

I think people attack you because they know you were a Cal guy. And you and I (CincyUKFan) did not get along because of that.

But the problem with this board is that people think you must have an Either/Or philosophy. i.e, “We’re better off with Pope or we’d be better off with Cal still here.”

Personally, I think it’s Both/And. i.e. Both Cal is washed and Pope isn’t an elite coach.

If you recall Cal, your backup point guard was on the floor and Kentucky's wasn't. Only a fool or a baiter would suggest that a team should play well without a single point guard on the floor.

Are you telling me that Cal promising time to a 1AD no matter what has never hurt the teams he coached here? Since when has he ever let talent get in the way of underperforming as a coach? Why is this game not telling you that it was KENTUCKY that made up for a lot of his ineptitude as a game coach?

If it wasn't for the Kentucky Effect, the Hogs just lose another game. That's how it's going to go sometimes with this team. Not everyone is going to come in and shoot 20% above their season average from 3, but a few might. Last night was one of them, and we folded under it.

Sucks for Fland that he's hurt. Best thing that could've happened to them as a team. ADDITION by subtraction. They never could've played the way they did last night with their full roster. Cal would've puckered up and blown it.

If we couldn't stay in front of DJ, what do you think would have happened if we had to defend both DJ and Fland? With the same defensive strategy, we would have lost by 20.

"Why do you think he gives us a reasonable chance to do so?"

1. This team plays better against higher seeded/ranked competition.

2. He's still developing his bench players.

3. There's still a month before post-season play.

4. This team plays very poorly against teams they should beat, so being seeded lower would help until the regional finals or FF.

You have been able to make this determination about Pope in less than one full season? You made a dumb statement like this when Pope has kept this team in the top 12 for most of the season while playing the best conference in college basketball. You make that statement after we beat Duke. You made that statement after we beat UT on their home court, the same UT who just knocked off UF while playing with two missing starters.

Your statement might eventually be determined to be accurate, but it is certainly ridiculous to make a statement like that at this point. This board is littered with some of the most irrational people in all of college sports. For some of you, Cal was right when he said it was your Super Bowl. You don't even have the patience to give Pope a chance. Maybe we should replace him with Hubert Davis.
