Per KSR!

Giles cancelled his trip to UNC, and according to Matt's "sources", thanks to a killer BBM visit, we are making up good ground in the Giles sweepstakes.

He also said during Madness, Cal walked over and said something to Giles privately. Wonder what it was?

Either way, ever since Cal said 2016 might be our "greatest class ever", I've always felt better about landing Giles than some others.

I would LOVE to have Giles, but we still have an uphill climb to snag him away from dook.

With Cal, you never know. Sometimes he starts from so far behind that you think he's wasting his time and then "boom" he pulls them in. I have learned to never say never with Cal.

K is giving up on USA basketball, can Duke be far behind? With him out of the way and Roy hanging by a thread, Cal might have to start turning people away for lack of room. Or not.

Can one school have 2 teams that compete independently of each other?

With everything else that goes on in college bball these days, I don't see why not.

Link?

Giles seems the least gettable of the remaining bigs we are involved with.jmo
I still say Duke lands him but Giles and Cal are tight. I give Cal about a 20-30% chance. And after Bam's latest tweets, I'd say he's less likely than Giles.

Can you imagine the fallout if Giles nor Bam signs with Duke? They would have to put locks on the bridges in north carolina. Ain't going to happen but it would be fun to watch if they didn't.

Hypothetically, if we were able to land Giles along with Monk/Fox to go with what we have committed already, is it better than the 2013 class?

Fox > And. Harrison
Monk > Aa. Harrison
Gabriel < Young
Giles push Randle
SKJ = Lee
< Dakari

I believe the 2013 could have the edge due to an extra 5 star, but for starting 5 I really like 2016's potential. 2016 would also have a better core of returning players with Wynyard, Humphries, Matthews, Mulder, and Hawkins (over 2013's Poythress, WCS). Fun scenario!

It'll never happen, but Good Lord, can you imagine the damage Giles could do with a Fox/Monk backcourt?

Whenever the phrase "making up ground" is used, you've already lost. Giles is not seriously considering uk.
Except of course Michigan St with Bridges. Not saying Giles is coming but it is possible to "make up ground".

He's probably very impressed with UK, especially after BBM, but not enough for him to pick the Cats over Duke. They've been considered leaders for a long time and I just can't see it changing that fast.
I hope I'm wrong, though.

Agree to disagree.

Teams "make up ground" in recruitments all the time.

Miles Bridges (was a Kentucky lock)
Andrew Wiggins (was down to UK & FSU)
Marques Teague (was a Louisville lock)
Etc, etc, etc...

There's a better chance of Giles than Bam. Still a long shot.

Agree with this 100%. With Giles it seems to be the not-so-simple matter of overcoming his relationship with Tatum and the close relationship he has developed with the Duke coaching staff. With Bam, it seems to be a somewhat more tenuous matter involving his relationship with Adidas on top of his relationships with Dennis Smith and the NC State coaching staff.

If you read the blog, you can clearly tell KSR is just trying to have a positive attitude and keep readers interested. It's like when Harry Giles tweeted that he had a good time. It's like thanks but no thanks. What else is Giles going to tweet, I had a horrible time and I'm going to Duke.

I would love to get Giles, but I thank he goes to Duke, but again don't count out UK and Coach Cal!

I was sitting up behind the recruits a few rows and I saw Cal go over and talk to Giles at least twice while not saying anything to the other recruits, so I would say he is trying very hard to land him.

Uhmm...simple.

He could choose to not tweet anything at all....

That's what most recruits choose to do.

The reason everyone thinks He is a Duke lock is his buddy Tatum. It's not because he & K are bust buddies or anything. I'd argue that Giles & Cal are really growing closer. In the end that swayed Gabriel...from Duke to UK.

Personally, I believe Cal turned the heat up because Cal's friend Steve Smith @ Oak Hill told Cal that Giles is "gettable". Cal has visited Giles 3 times at Oak Hill....twice in the same week.

It's not over

I just don't see how Giles cancelling his UNC visit is considered a plus for UK, it doesn't even make any sense....he's long been considered a Duke lean, not UNC...

I pray that you are right but I think it is a very long shot.

You may be right. Then again, 247 has been wrong about many recruits this year, including Murray who they had overwhelmingly to Oregon. I think Brown was 3% to Cal.

With Giles, Cal can start 4 guys 6'9" or taller and add Fox to be the PG. This would allow him to play "Small Ball" with Bigs, like he's been talking about wanting to eventually be able to do during the whole pre-season.

Great point. Add in the fact that he is best friends with Tatum and I just don't see much chance of a UK route for him. It's all just too much too overcome, even for Cal. Some kids are just destined to go somewhere. Coach K leaving will not effect Giles as I'm sure he will at least stay through 2016 and Giles is poster boy for 1 and done. Wouldn't be surprised if 2016 was Coach K's final year though. I wouldn't be heartbroken if it was, that man is on a tear lately.

I hope your right. Him and Tatum are pretty tight. Good thing is that we do have the best in the business. I don't think we get him in the end but i've been wrong on a few occasions. Lol

The undoubted sell:

1. Come play against other versatile future NBA players(if you have to go to school for a year, you might as well get better).

2. Cal was the pioneer of the whole "embrace" the league" approach.

3. Rupp Arena/playing for UK is like an NBA atmosphere.

4. Leave the state of NC in order to fully prepare for the road of the NBA.

5. Cal will adapt the team to him, not force Giles into a rut based on a system.

6. Be the next Towns/Skal/Davis big to play for Cal - i.e., #1 pick.

I read somewhere a couple months ago that Giles had invited Coach K to his birthday party last year. Once I read that, I assumed this kid is Puke bound.

Like others have mentioned, I would absolutely love to get Giles but I refuse to get my hopes up on this one.
