1. Archaic offense/philosophy
2. Terrible roster construction
3. Changing game
- the offense philosophy of being more athletic and beating you guy off the dribble only works if you have Uber athletic guards like fox, and wall. You can’t expect guys who need offense ran for them instead of being more athletic. Reeves, Frederick, and toppin need plays ran for them. Stop standing around and actually run players off baseline actions or plays to get open. Oscar standing in the lane all day doesn’t help
- the roster is terrible built. A undersized PG who can’t shoot and struggles to finish, Wallace is good soemtiems disappears but is solid. Reeves, Frederick, Livingston, toppin, all the others are roel players having to play larger roles than they should be. Oscar is great but he is in the one all day, clogs things up, and has his clear problems. The roster should be 1 in 4 out, and have 3 guards on the perimeter who can all shot and play make, and a stretch four, around Oscar. Kentucky has 3 non shooters and Wallace
- third point college basketball is about spacing and shooting. Athleticism doesn’t win as many games anymore. Kansas and Villanova got ahead of this in 2018. Having 3- 4 guys on the perimeter who can space the floor and shoot, opens up driving lanes and other capabilities. Hey cal maybe if you didn’t play non-shooters/ recruit them, or actually came up with ways to get Frederick and reeves good looks within the offense and not rely solely on transition looks things would improve.
- fourth point CALs stubbornness makes all 3 of the first points even more frustrating
