Kentucky Basketball Practice Thread

You seem determined to control the perception on Humphries. Not sure why that is. Most of the comments about his performance were factually based. He did shoot well, and he did show decent fundamentals. I never saw him bent over with his hands on his knees. He is the ONLY legit center on the roster. You label a "Humphries Crowd" after just a few comments about him . . .

Yeah, and he's starting to smell funny.

You're right. What am I thinking. Humphries is a perfect fit into a fast paced up and down team running up and down the floor in waves. You got me.

You're basically being very stupid by mandating that observations and excitement for new players must be limited to anticipation of what they can contribute for the current season. Yeah, I've got you. You're not the first I've exposed. Won't be the last. Troll.

I don't really think Poy is anywhere ready to how all out yet. It's only been 9 months. Let's see when conference play starts.

I just double checked... Poy tore his ACL on Dec 11th. So, it's been 10 months. He's got 4 more weeks before the season starts and 5 months until March. I'm still pretty nervous about it since it's less then a year, but looking at a calendar and barring any setbacks - he should have plenty of time to be the old Alex.

I would love for him to be 100% right now or by the first game....but big picture, he has plenty of time to round into form. If Cal limits him early, maybe that gets Humphries more PT and gets him up to speed faster.

Hopefully they release the athletic results soon...along with wingspan/standing reach...

The only thing you've exposed is that you don't know basketball from breakfast cereal. We have had many fine players that came in and sat because they didn't physically match up with what we were doing. If the NCAA pulls a fast one and screws Skal over then Humphries could wind up in the same situation playing the same role that Josh did and Josh was one of my favorite players ever. Him slamming the ball off Sullinger set the tone for that huge upset and I will never forget that play.

Stop trying to slant my posts into a knock on Humphries and stop trying to harass me based on some snitty problem you have with greeting new posters with snide insulting comments that insinuate their loyalties and motivations are not genuine. You don't even sound like a basketball fan to me, you sound like some message board thug that thinks your post total entitles you to call other posters "stupid" but then run to the moderators the minute they respond back in kind. You're the worst kind of poster. Little more than an alley thug looking to pick on what your warped sense sees as weakness because I am new.

Posters who seem to have longevity tend to temper their post habits and aggressiveness going in. You will prove yourself in time but you are smelling kind of funny at this time. Take it as you will.

Here we go again...

How long has it been since we had a cool newbie?

whatever, princess. It was you who enacted an "entitled" process of controlling how other posters made their observations of a new player. Fact is, your method was stupid. Still is. Humphries is very likely to be at least a 2 or 3 year player. Posters were very likely making their comments about him with that in mind and you were trying to CONTROL those comments based on YOUR STANDARDS. btw, I don't run to a moderator for jack other than to b*tch about why I've been put on time-out because I've hurt somebody's feelings. Have I hurt yours, princess?

Yes. I'm physically injured by your impressive skill at showing your arse and complete lack of basketball knowledge while taking everything I posted out of context in order to try and look tough to your fellow ruffians that clearly enjoy trying to harass new posters like some blubbering high school oafs. I suspect it is because you were beaten and teased mercilessly over your acne scarred fat arsed high school experience and I am truly sorry that has led you here to these boards to try and make the pain go away... but at the end of the day you are... you... so there isn't much I can do about that.

Flail away if it helps you to get by for another day. Stalk these boards in search of new posters to attack and call stupid if it in any way helps you bear the horrible burden of being yourself. I'm done with you as you're not interested in basketball. You're here for drama as I know a queen when I see one.

More then anything I drooled thinking about having him for 2 years.

Both Humphries and the Kiwi beside him could turn into great catches when so many are OADs.
Yep . I see I left and some newbie made an azz of himself. Can't wait to see Humphries in year 2 . Though i think he will have some outstanding games his first year I could see him being an all american as a 2nd year player and that is all I was saying. He moved up and down the floor fine , not every one is a WCS.

I posted about basketball and in turn have been attacked by you and your fellow drama queen. You both have called me "stupid" and a "d&^khead" while laughably simultaneously claiming I am the troll.

Has that actually worked for you in the past?

Link to post where I "sh!t" on a player?

Yet you have repeatedly name called which is against the rules. You have used other characters to mask curse words which is against the rules... and you have posted dozens of posts from the UL board which is against the rules.

Yet I am the one that has been out of line?

So, seriously if you are capable... do you REALLY believe that is "shItting" on a player? Really? Read them again and answer that question honestly if you can?

No. I don't suckup as that would be pathetic. How about you post about basketball and stop name calling then all will be fine.

Read my first 5 or 6 posts in the UL thread before you came along and started name calling then seriously try and say I am a UL fan.

i always wonder why people get so angry on a forum.

I actually didn't think Poythress looked all that bad. I think many on here are exaggerating his current state of mind and capability.

ulis #3, briscoe #13, murray #23

something about those threes. idk but it comes across like closeness. yep, we are stacked again. had to watch it late. jwill had some nice things to say at the top of the show. was very enjoyable to watch. here we go again...gbb!

My main takeaway from the practice is that it is very early in the year. About the only thing I'm sure of is that after 4 hours or so, they were still moving, for the most part. None of us can watch that practice and make any kind of useful observations about how the year will go.

I think I heard Cal say that Humphries needed to be on the floor. I wouldn't call someone a troll for saying he looked slow at times. Maybe we'll run a zone when he's in the game and run wide open man to man when he's not. Either way, what he is now is not as important to our program, or him, as what he has the chance to be.

I don't have a probably with the new guy based on what I've seen so far. I saw a guy get backed in the corner and defend himself.

Bodvar, just keep going and everything will smooth out, if you are here for the right reason. In case you didn't know it, there is an ignore feature you may want to utilize rather than trying to fight a mob.

Ease up Brian, even if he is a troll, what harm can he do? He was doing a good job of busting on ul until people had a problem with his Humphries take. He is well spoken and I don't have to decipher what he has written. Might be a good addition to the board. I'll admit though, he sure seems like another incarnation of Z.

<Singing> It's the MOST wonderful time.....of the YEAR!!!

I liked what I saw last night; Poy is a little slow, a little tentative, but that's to be expected. Let's see where he is come January.

Humphries is a pleasant surprise; you could tell he was a bit nervous at first, but seems to have fallen into a rhythm as the practice went on. A large part of that is that he's only 17 years old, and probably didn't expect how HUGE playing for UK is. Give him some time to get into great shape, learn the game and mature a little. I think he'll see some good minutes, but that NEXT season is where he'll shine most.

Allcats22 post was spot on in my opinion.

I'm thinking we'll see more growth from this team from beginning to end than any other team we've had. It's going to be an exciting season.

I don't think you're a troll or a UL fan. I think you just have a major sense of entitlement and a seriously bad attitude. I have time for neither, welcome to ignore.

what do you know about SEC basketball..ever played been to all the schools..well ..
Well I really can't make heads or tails out of what you just said but I think you're asking me what I know about the SEC. If in fact you are I will respond this way:
I don't care if you or I played, coached or officiated a single game in the SEC 5 years ago or 40 years ago. That means diddly squat. I know by looking at the rosters from each team and how they played the year before that a team is going to be pretty darn good and regardless of how you feel about Vanderbilt it is possible that they can have a good year.
Were you not around in 2012? They were the only SEC team to beat us and they gave us our toughest games. They will be very good this year and if UK doesn't jell as a team they will step into that slot.
Again, this isn't 1985, this is 2015, Vanderbilt is going to be good, very good.
You seem to think they can't be good because their name is Vanderbilt.

It was a workout for the NBA scouts, not an actual game, so the guys were basically playing to the scouts, not simulating what they will do in a game. I put little stock in preseason workouts. What happens on the court in November is what will be fun to watch. One given-Ullis is in charge and Murray is the most polished Freshman on the court. Jmo

I thought the practice went really well. Cal mentioned that his goals included winning a National Championship every year....to me that speaks a lot about his standards. Im not worried about this years team at all. We have that 2nd and 3rd tier of guys that are equally talented and can make a difference. Our coach is focused and determined to win. What else could you ask for? GO UK!

It's strange that I just cannot get myself into this yet considering it's very much football season in the bluegrass

This is where Cal has had a weird effect on me. I barely follow recruiting and barely follow the practice reports because he's got it. I know we will be good. As such, I actually tend to lose a bit of interest and focus my attention to the foosball

Sounds like we have another great team this year regardless!

Honestly, it had nothing to do with his observation, it was his attack on Kopi, then in another thread he jumped on some other guys, dude had like 2 posts and started slamming people.

Was appalled we had UL posts on the UL thread...?

Sports fans are often hyperbolic and obsessive.

I agree. Poythress looked fine. He looked like ... [drum roll] Alex Poythress.

Humphries looked fine, too, and seems at least as quick as Dakari Johnson. One practice is a little soon to start putting evaluations into stone, eh?

God forbid a UK fan posts their opinion on a UK players performance on a UK basketball board. The horror.

Humphries will win the 400 meter relay over Ursain Bolt, never miss a shot, dunk from half court every time he is thrown the ball, and become the next Larry Bird.

Is that acceptable? Can we move on now?
