Kansas vs Arkansas Exhibition Friday

Should be a good one to tune in to.

Calipari (seriously) has already said 3 of his 9 players are dealing with injuries and won't play, but I think Dickinson is also injured. Speaking of injuries, I thought it was funny Bradshaw was already sidelined for Ohio State in their exhibition vs Cincinnati.

Another good one will be Gonzaga vs USC (Musselman) on Saturday.

Arkansas is also playing TCU next week in an exhibition charity.
I liked Bradshaw but man the guys Cal recruits are always injured. That exhibition will be a joke. Cal only playing 6 dudes. I can’t wait until It starts in real games. We tried to tell Arkansas fans but they are blinded by recruiting success.

Cal might honestly be a 1-year thing at Arkansas.. This is not a good start for him. He's still not using the rest of the scholarships, he's got several guys injured.

It's a good thing their schedule is a joke. They play 8th Baylor and... and.. some middling P5 programs in Michigan and Miami, two teams that are trending down IMO.
We all know there will be at least 3 of those games they lose anyway or be in serious danger.

direct quote from that article when asked about only have 8 or 9 players.....wtf 😂

“There are all kinds of ways to do this, and if this isn’t the right way, I’ll change,” Calipari said. “Normally I’ll change fast, but I’m thinking this is the right way.”
giphy.gif

He’s selling them hard.

Off to a shaky start ? Because were holding out players for precautionary reasons ? This is an exhibition game LOL . Kansas is holding out 3 players including Hunter so they must be in panic mode in Lawrence .
This is exactly the same stuff he did here, we are trying to warn you, but keep making excuses. You will see soon enough.

He added Casmir Chavis also for the 10th scholarship . Watch this years recruiting class and see if Cal enough money in the War Chest lol
It’s all good guys, Cassie Chavis is here to save the day! FR who is that? Do you honestly believe he will even play let alone have an impact? Trust me if you are relying on that guy to be one of the 7 that he plays it won’t be good. He’s a freshman , and is a 6 foot tall, 3 star guard. I’ll name you exactly one guard rated like him Cal had success with. Dom Hawkins and he was a senior and local kid that didn’t play till his junior and senior year. The last time cal had a guard that tall play a lot it didn’t turn out so well. He did lead the SEC in assists, but he couldn’t shoot and run that offense.

If he leaves Arkansas he would burn his longtime friendship with John Tyson who happens to be providing a large part of the NIL fund . He also told Kenny Payne when he was hiring him that this was his last job and he wanted him to be a part of it .

I suppose anything could happen in this crazy world but all indications is that he is not only rejuvenated from the fresh start but that he will retire at Arkansas.
You will learn that Cal says all kinda stuff…

You could say the same thing about our roster (in regards to having so many players). I doubt UK or KU has any serious issues though.

It's either you don't have enough like cal or have too many like UK and KU.

I think it’s different. Bidunga probably didn’t expect Dickinson and Adams back. Storr probably didn’t expect Griffin to come there after him. Plus Mayo is in the mix. It just seems like a lot of guys that expect to start as opposed to some of the UK guys being more of the role player variety.

Where is it streaming?
SEC+ at 8 pm. An interesting game on Sunday to scout a future SEC opponent, Indiana @ Tennessee 2 pm SEC+. Also Sunday, Smith @ North Carolina 1 pm ACC+. I thought that Smith was an all girls school. On Monday, Spalding @ Louisville 6 pm ACC+. At 7pm, Allabama @ Memphis SEC+. Tuesday MinnyState @ Kentucky 6 pm SEC+

Your right ,it will be hard to break into the rotation with Boogie DJ and Nelly

To Arkansas standards, sure. Not to KY. A disaster season at UK is 10+ losses and a first round loss. And I'm not even trying to trash Arkansas. Arkansas has some really nice fans. They are a pretty knowledgeable basketball fanbase. And they have a passion for the sport. It's just reality. KY has different standards. Not a shot at your program. It's just the truth.
No doubt Kentucky has a basketball standard that is as high as it gets . Cal had more final 4's than Pitino and also has one of Kentucky's 4 Championships the last 40 years . It has just been to long since he made a serious run . Were hoping a rejuvenated Cal can give the Razorbacks some of that earlier tenure success .

You’ll be fine. Your standards are clearly much lower than ours.
As much as i hate to admit it your right . I grew up watching Eddie Sutton and Nolan's teams where the standard was extremely high . With bad coaching hires and going 20 years without even making a sweet 16 it lowered expectations . I will say that Musselman put the fire back in the Razorback fan base though . Hogs want to win no doubt but we dont expect final 4's every year .

Musselman took them to two elite 8’s and a sweet sixteen in the last four years. Compared to Cal not even getting to the weekend of the sec tourney and I just don’t get the Arkansas excitement, they’ll prolly drop all 3 of those games against P5 teams.

I think Kansas fans are starting to have an existential crisis about their program’s coach after Self retires. They really want pope to fail and mock us for being excited about his offense. The 123 points and style of play won’t help them when hunter has his back to the basket as selfs high low is becoming obsolete.

Cal will retire at Arkansas . What makes Kentucky schedule so much superior to Arkansas ? The Hogs have Baylor Illinois Miami and Michigan while Kentucky has Duke Gonzaga Clemson Ohio St and Louisville . Baylor Duke and Gonzaga all are preseason top 10 and the rest of the teams are receiving votes . The only difference between the 2 is one additional top 10 matchup . When Cal got to Arkansas there was no schedule so considering the time frame to put it together I would say he did pretty good . It was rumored Kansas was going to be another matchup but that didn't work out so they scheduled an exhibition .
Clemson and Ohio State are really good teams this year. Did you not watch Clemson at all last March?

Illinois Miami and Michigan (Arkansas)Ohio State Clemson and Louisville (Kentucky)are all receiving votes and are good teams . I was responding to a post that said our schedule was a joke and i pointed out that there was only a one game difference from Kentucky . The Cats have Duke and the Zags while Arkansas has Baylor . The point was not that Kentucky's Schedule was weak rather that there was not a ton of difference between the 2 and Cal had to put Arkansas schedule together on short notice .

That UK @ Clemson game on 12/3 is probably going to be a tough one!!
Clemson has four players back that:
played in all 36-games,
played 92-minutes pg,
scored 31-ppg,
returns leading rebounder @ 9.4pg,
returns two of top-3 astpg,
plus added three possible impactful transfers:
Zackery, 6-1 guard/ Boston Coll/ 11.3pts/ 3.3rb/ 4.2ast
Lakhin, 6-11 center/ Cincinnati/ 9.2pts/ 6.0rb
Foster, 6-7 forward/ Illinois St/ 12.4pts/ 8.1rb (put up 20pts/ 15-rbs vs. UK on 12/29)

If he leaves Arkansas he would burn his longtime friendship with John Tyson who happens to be providing a large part of the NIL fund . He also told Kenny Payne when he was hiring him that this was his last job and he wanted him to be a part of it .

Just as an aside, Tyson is corrupt

Nolan’s teams were beasts. I enjoyed watching UK and Ark go head to head during that time period.

Exactly Pope genuinely loves the program/fans and will do everything in his power to make sure the PROGRAM is successful.
Every coach in the world would say the same thing. He’s a first year coach with a brand new team going against one of the strongest programs and coaches in college.

Nope…Cal will take another job somewhere possibly as the head of an athletics department. The guy will probably do very well with NIL in place. Look at the recruits he was getting before being allowed to pay them.

Lord knows I'm often wrong but never doubt; however, I suspect you guys will start suffering the "death by a thousand cuts" frustrations/ peccadillos with Cal within the next 2-3 years as UK did before your frustrations will start really grinding on you circa year 4-5:

* weird little player injuries with a healing time that drags on and on.

* a growing worry about early season wins while being told "we're built for March" (realization that the vast majority of new/young college players Cal brings in (no matter how good) doesn't translate to winning games earlier in the season. This W/L record DOES impact March no matter how Cal tries to blow it off.)
---> fans may start mocking tried and true Calisms like "we're built for March" with phrases like "we're built for June (recruiting)".

* ultimately beating teams you should but only after being down/starting to wonder why you are struggling with this team in the first place based on the talented athletes on your roster (your pucker factor will start increasing) "Crap, we won by 10 but we really should have clobbered these guys."

* starting to notice a rightfully deserved bias against Cal by refs resulting in angst "that was a foul- what the hell??!!" no-call comments by fans. this will start building this into a big deal come March at some point during his tenure there.

* Cal's "be mad at me, not the players" or similar quotes when head scratching decisions/losses happen. This passive aggressive behavior by Cal will not be evident at first but will slowly fester in the Arkansas fan base.

1. specific to "decisions", you guys will be absolutely befuddled why he does or not play certain guys who have shown they should be in the game *or NOT* in the game.
2. decisions tied to allowing incoming transfers which result in the team not entirely meshing "gotta have those athletes" no matter what the cost.
3. I'd suggest getting caught up on old episodes of "Little House on the Prairie" in case you end up in a conversation with Cal (don't worry about engaging on how he and the staff gameplan).

*players your fans base grows to love/ identifies with as the season goes on-- with an excitement of seeing improvement in year 2-- only to be pushed out the door whether they may ultimately be ready or not-- for another crop of young talented athletes (key in on the word "athlete" and why I used it instead of "player").

1. all but the most diehard of fans will have a hard time remembering who was on your team a couple years earlier with the afore mentioned fan favorite being the exception and not the rule (success will ease that confusion...at first)
2. you'll hear former players speak about playing for Cal if asked but not nearly as much about playing at Arkansas (this perhaps is a dated concept but it is still important in Kentucky and I believe in Arkansas as well). The "university of Cal" comments will start.

I believe you guys will enjoy the initial success as we did with Cal from 09-17. You used the words "rejuvenated Cal" and you'll be right at first. A competitive Arkansas is fun rival for Kentucky and SEC.

Ultimately, his shtick will start wearing on you. When the success of the first few years starts diminishing the little things you guys overlooked (as WE DID) will become big issues. At some point, the rotating door of players will lead to apathy on the part of your fan base. This, coupled with Cal's hubris, frustrating losses/ personnel decisions year over year will cause the rumblings to start. Soon after, folks will realize the joy of watching their team has diminished/some will say they've lost it.

Instead of responding/adjusting/ admitting a course correction may be in order, Ol' Cal to double down on "my way is correct", REALLY start ramping up the "blame me" coach talk, surround himself with yes men coaches/supporters. The downward spiral will speed up.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

CM.

This might be the best post ever on this board. Very well done Sir.

My guy, cal took the greatest program in the country, with the biggest fan base, with the richest tradition, with the best talent, and couldn’t win a single postseason game in 5 years. What makes you think he is gonna do any better at lower tier program like Arkansas?

Haven’t you heard? At 67 years old and after finally removing the shackles of Kentucky basketball Cal is rejuvenated and excited to get back to winning basketball! This happens all the time in all jobs!

I actually have a good friend who is a die hard Cat and I have heard all of this the last 2-3 years . I don't think your post is hyperbole and know you are probably spot on with the majority if not all of it .

I have posted on here in the past that Cal is not the coach i wanted , of course who would have ever thought he was a possibility but none the less I wanted Chris Beard or Will Wade ( not looking for a preacher) .

What I do like about Cal and what he brings to the table is the amount of exposure the Razorback brand will get and should elevate back to the next tier behind the true Blue Bloods of KY N Car Duke Kansas UConn .

Cal has already shown the recruiting will not slow at all with last years Class . Acuff already committed for this year and waiting on a commitment from Malik Thomas and Chris Cenac . From our understanding he will only be taking 3-4 Frosh and blend with returning players along with experienced transfers . This alone is a recipe he didn't venture to much into at Kentucky so we will see how it turns out.

For all intensive purposes the the Cal era at Arkansas starts tonight no matter who wins . If he is a total flop this season I will come back here and let yall give me a public flogging but my expectation's are a top 5 seed in the tournament and let the chips fall where they may .

Musselman also finished 10th or worse in the SEC in two of those years. But I get it, the tournament means more than the regular season so no one remembers how bad your season was when you make it to the second weekend. It’s just always hard to evaluate a one-game sample size over the body of work throughout a season.

Maybe in the sense that Alabama football this year is a disaster, but they’re still likely going to finish ranked around 10-15. A “disaster” is what Florida State is going through this year.

One common misconception I see a lot is when people say Cal only has 9 scholarship players. There are more than that on scholarship, but the top 9 are the only players getting NIL money. The rest are mostly 3* freshmen who won’t play a whole lot this year but one of them actually looks like one of the best shooters on the team so far. Seems like Cal gambled on shooting for the remaining spots.
You seem to think Cal develops guys. He doesn't. Those 3* players won't be playing next year, either, if Cal gets his recruits.
