Kansas vs Arkansas Exhibition Friday

Off to a shaky start ? Because were holding out players for precautionary reasons ? This is an exhibition game LOL . Kansas is holding out 3 players including Hunter so they must be in panic mode in Lawrence .

Right, you're holding them out now because its just an exhibition game. Then you'll hold them out in your season opener against Lipscomb because you need them down the line. Then you'll get 1 or 2 to come off the bench against Baylor, then magically they will be limited or held out for the next several games. You will also be told the whole time that the players are either coming along and close to being back, or that there is not an update to give on the players injury status.

Weird for someone to be here wondering what UK fans think, while also not seeing the signs that all of us UK fans are showing you. Cal is doing the exact same things that caused him to fail as a coach. I'm not saying he's for sure going to lose, but the warning signs are there: refusing to use all roster spots, ambiguous injury news, not changing his coaching style, telling the fans it's going to be a process, and so on.

And I was a big Cal fan.. but this is not the same Cal of the early 2010s. He was why UK went home in the opening rounds, with teams that should have competed for a Final 4 (or better). We watched him totally crash and burn on so many fronts the last few seasons.

But hey, good luck I guess. We're certainly happy he's not our problem anymore.

It's the Calipari Way. He can't be bothered to coach 12 guys, some of them may transfer. Meanwhile, Pope has assembled a 12-man roster (1 being held out) of worthy scholarship players, none likely to be lottery picks, that I can't wait to see develop.

Cal will retire at Arkansas . What makes Kentucky schedule so much superior to Arkansas ? The Hogs have Baylor Illinois Miami and Michigan while Kentucky has Duke Gonzaga Clemson Ohio St and Louisville . Baylor Duke and Gonzaga all are preseason top 10 and the rest of the teams are receiving votes . The only difference between the 2 is one additional top 10 matchup . When Cal got to Arkansas there was no schedule so considering the time frame to put it together I would say he did pretty good . It was rumored Kansas was going to be another matchup but that didn't work out so they scheduled an exhibition .
I think he under achieves at Arkansas and then tries to go back Umass to finish where he started.

This quote had me LMFAO: "There are all kinds of ways to do this, and if this isn't the right way, I'll change," Calipari said. "Normally I'll change fast, but I'm thinking this is the right way."
In other words, if allowed to continue doing the same crap at UK he would have. He's basically trying to tell Arkansas fans that his "hide them from being exposed" is the way to do things.

You will come to find out later that the precaution had something to do with NIL, inner team turmoil, made promises to one player so he has to sit another to keep his promise, in the dog house, or something equally asinine.

It almost never has anything to do with an actual injury. Just wait until some of your ballyhooed players ride the pine for the entire year and then get drafted in the first round without playing a minute. You're going to love that.

I know y’all are jaded but I will hold our judgement until the season is underway before I hit the panic button

If he leaves Arkansas he would burn his longtime friendship with John Tyson who happens to be providing a large part of the NIL fund . He also told Kenny Payne when he was hiring him that this was his last job and he wanted him to be a part of it .

I suppose anything could happen in this crazy world but all indications is that he is not only rejuvenated from the fresh start but that he will retire at Arkansas.

Not only that but it's 3 of their best I believe. Aidoo and Davis are two of them I believe.

I am interested to see how Kansas plays. I think Self has too many players this year and there will be some drama over the minutes.

Also interested if Ivisic has gotten any better.

You could say the same thing about our roster (in regards to having so many players). I doubt UK or KU has any serious issues though.

It's either you don't have enough like cal or have too many like UK and KU.

Yep...probably w/in a couple of years, after securing Brad as coach in waiting and Payne as his top assistant. Talk about pig-sooey...

My guy, cal took the greatest program in the country, with the biggest fan base, with the richest tradition, with the best talent, and couldn’t win a single postseason game in 5 years. What makes you think he is gonna do any better at lower tier program like Arkansas?

Have to disagree. 2013, 2021 were both disasters. 2016, 2023, 2024 were darn close.
Maybe in the sense that Alabama football this year is a disaster, but they’re still likely going to finish ranked around 10-15. A “disaster” is what Florida State is going through this year.

One common misconception I see a lot is when people say Cal only has 9 scholarship players. There are more than that on scholarship, but the top 9 are the only players getting NIL money. The rest are mostly 3* freshmen who won’t play a whole lot this year but one of them actually looks like one of the best shooters on the team so far. Seems like Cal gambled on shooting for the remaining spots.

@piglet mignon You are welcome here. But realize we are not rationale on this situation. We have been miserable for 5 years because something changed with Cal during COVID. And then he overstayed his welcome.

We actually appreciate Arkansas for taking the worst contract in college sports off our hands. We were in a no-win situation until you all helped us avoid a $40 million dollar buyout.

I'm going to guarantee this. Cal will get talented players (that he only cares about getting to the NBA). Cal will win some big games (but lose to teams he shouldn't including early in the NCAA Tournament). Cal has and will get your fans excited.

But in 5 years (or less) I will guarantee all the things that annoyed us, and going to annoy Arkansas fans. From skipping interviews, to talking down to the fan base, to "I haven't seen him" when talking about injuries, to not playing the best players, as he has to start higher rated recruits so he won't "take their heart." He will downplay expectations so when he loses early games fans aren't bad. He will say "wait until March" ... but then in March blame his "young team" for the issues. He doesn't put together a "team" ... he finds some talented players and hopes they meld together.

Y’all only had one disaster regular season in 15 years .
2013 didn't make ncaa tourney,, 2021 didn't make ncaa tourney,, both MAJOR disaster years.. 2022,, 2023,, 2024 all disaster years too with losing to D2 teams at home and not making it out of the 1st weekend plus other oddities that isn't to UK standards..

Um, UK has never lost to a D2 school at home as far as I know.

Evansville, Richmond, and UNC-Wilmington as crappy losses as they were, were all Div 1 schools.

Please cite the D2 loss at home. Because the only major Kentucky team to do that is U of Smell.

One of the extremely rare times. LOL
Never, can't do it.

Teams I will NEVER pull for:

1. Kansas
2. Duke
3. UNC
4. UConn

Teams I will pull for only if they play the four above:

1. UofL (only when playing one of the four)
2. EweTee (ONLY when playing one of the five above)
3. Indiana (Only if playing one of the other teams).

Trying to tell KY fans about Cal is....stupid. We have 15 years of experience dealing with the man. Just wait until the mysterious "ankle" injury hits you.

To Arkansas standards, sure. Not to KY. A disaster season at UK is 10+ losses and a first round loss. And I'm not even trying to trash Arkansas. Arkansas has some really nice fans. They are a pretty knowledgeable basketball fanbase. And they have a passion for the sport. It's just reality. KY has different standards. Not a shot at your program. It's just the truth.

I can't stand Kansas, don't get me wrong. I won't be jumping up and down rooting for them to beat Arkansas or anything. Don't care that much but also just been too much drama with Cal over the last few years to want to see him win any game.

I have Duke at the top of my list. Will always root for who is playing them. I probably have UNC second. I probably don't hate KU as much as these two because we had a good stretch of success against them for the most part during most of Cal's tenure. I saw the title game in person when we beat them in 2012 so that alone probably plays a part in me not hating them as much as the others.

Kansas will be at the top of my list for awhile until Self is gone.
Duke fell a bit for me when the Rat left.
Same for UNC after Ol Daggum hung it up.

Ha,, losing to Walter McCartys team at home was equal to losing to a D2 team.. Was as bad as it gets for Cawl..

Not arguing that. However, that doesn't make your statement any less factually wrong.

Bad loss? Absolutely. One of Cal's worst.
Still not a D2 team loss. We aren't Louisville
