Just turned on the Gonzaga vs. Washington game…

And at the end of the day they are both college kids. God forbid we judge people on opinions they had or things they did in college. I'm guessing most people here can shake their heads at stupid things they did in college and be very thankful they weren't a public figure at the time.
No no no. You forget we live in the land of double standard. Murica. Where folks will criticize Keion for a bad take, but have a world view the size of a backyard.

Why can't you jerks just let it go? You all harassed a good kid into quitting during a basketball season and you're still picking on him. It's pathetic.
Bull crap. He decided to quit on the team because he lost the starting position to Wallace after injury. And it was evident to anyone that Wallace was the better option at that point. Don't try to put that on the fans. That's nonsense.

Mostly nonsense. There was a section of the fanbase that rode him like a mule.

That's not the reason he left (as far as we know); but let's be honest. There were some that absolutely hated that dude.

This is Kentucky. You are going to get a lot of attention. Positive and negative.
Most of the criticism I saw was rightfully aimed at Calipari for stubbornly insisting on playing him until an injury (supposedly) made the right decision for him. I seriously doubt he was reading these boards anyway.

Is it sad I thought the other poster was using satire? Didn't know we had some Wheeler lovers on this board.

Well, you're a contrarian troll. When you always take that stance on things it's going to bite you in the ass, from time to time.
I prefer the term selective agitator. I’m not out here wasting anyone’s time. I’ll talk soem
Ball and talk some shit. The latter isn’t for everyone.

That team would have had a shot at the Final Four and maybe the title, if Cal manages the roster correctly.

PG Washington
SG Mintz
SF Grady
PF Brooks
C Tshiebwe

That should have been the main lineup. Wheeler should have been a backup on that team. Would have been a good change of pace PG to stick in there for short spurts.
It is documented that Washington and Grady were not fully healthy. Cal had to work around that fact. I get your point though.

Injuries were a big part of the downfall of that team, but when healthy the lineup I mentioned was the one to roll with and Cal wasn’t using that lineup because he wanted Wheeler running the show.

When that team was healthy they ran KU of their own floor with Wheeler getting 34 minutes. Wheeler fit in with that team a lot better than he did with last year's team. I think to an extent people are taking what they saw last year and applying it to both of his years here.

The point I was trying to make is so many on here think Cal is far superior than Tubby. They called Tubby 10 loss Tubby and ran him off because of it. What is Cal, 10 loss Cal? Tubby did more with less than Cal ever has. Tubby is twice the Coach Cal is. Would I have rather had someone else other than Tubby? Yes! Would I trade Tubby for Cal? NO!. Tubby did love UK and its tradition, Cal on the other hand could care less.
You’re going on record saying the fans ran off Tubby?

If he quit because of a forum upset at his performance then, no offense, but he has to much b$tch in his blood to be a leader of a team. He quit because he lost his starting spot. He was fine the game before with the fans upset, the game after he was done.

The way some people like to blame everything on the RR posters who vocally don’t support substandard performances is truely amazing.

What did the fans do to him?

Stuff said on a fanatic message board isn't that big a deal IMO.
You think it was only on the message board? I remember hearing the boos at Rupp. Nevermind the idiotic jerks on social media.

I'm not talking about just here. And I agree that the attention will be high as well as the pressure. I'm not defending Wheeler at all. I'm also not defending some of the things I saw across the net about him either.

I didn't blame that at all. Not once. Just merely stated I saw some pretty crappy things said about him across the net.

This was long before the days of social media (thank goodness) and before I was round these parts on the board. But I can give anecdotal evidence of some folks not liking Tubby for a a very stupid reason. Now, keep in mind, this was a very very few people and in portions of this state not know to be too accepting of well, really anyone tbh. It was sad to hear.

I don't think the fan base in general ran Tubby off, but the pressure was building for sure. Tubby left at the right time. And it worked out for both (mostly- we got stuck with a raving drunken person- thanks Mitch).
Tubby did mostly right here. Never missed the tourney; had good teams.

I didn’t like Wheeler much that year either. Yes, we beat UNC and KU badly that season, but Wheeler was not a championship (or even Final Four) level PG. He was not leading us on a deep run as our primary PG, IMHO. Too many liability issues with his size and shooting. He should have been a reserve. It took almost two years for Cal to figure that out.

We’ve been fortunate to have very few mediocre to bad point guards come through here. So when we do have one they really stick out.

Off the top of my head, just since the late 80’s the only ones i can think of are Saul, Porter, Askew, Wheeler and Green. And Green really wasn’t terrible for a freshman. But he was essentially handed the starting spot twice and got beat out both times.

But Askew replaced Porter as the worst in my lifetime.

But to be clear you said the fans didn’t run Tubby off.

This board is filled with the angriest people I've ever seen. Still holding grudges and hating on two guys who transferred out. Who the hell cares at this point? Good lord. They did nothing to you personally and you're still actively rooting against them to lose games in games that have zero bearing on UK basketball. Live and let live for god's sake.

I thought it was cool to see them beat the Zags and hopefully they have a good season at Washington.
To be fair, THIS game DID have some bearing on UK basketball, since we actually play Gonzaga and need them to have as few losses as possible when figuring SOS. Otherwise, I get your point.

Damn right I am, Tubby had to put up with so much negativity from the fans concerning Saul, 10 losses, flame out in Tournament, that he got tired of hearing all of the negativity and left. Now only if Cal would get the message.
