Jemarl Baker update: “Very good chance” he joins Kentucky Wildcats’ class

Cal knows we need two more and those are the best available and two of the three would be great. It's a great opportunity for them if they want to play in the NCAA tournament and be on TV with all of the exposure they would get, if that appeals to them.

I think more of these top-75ish kids should go this route. Wait until the late signing period to make a decision. Bigger/better programs needing to fill holes will come running.
I agree, your stock starts rising quickly when top teams have holes they need to fill.

Not sure he gets off the bench much his FR year, video IMO shows some lack of quicks and overall athleticism which wont translate for good D.

Yep. Some of the best recruiting advice right there

Dude can ball. A smaller version of Lamb. And confidence is through the roof. Won't be a big impact freshman year but will be a major asset 1-2 years down the road.

The kid looks to be an excellent shooter. Good release high arching shot. He will help maybe only in spots this year but if he comes and sticks around we will love this kid.

Baker is the 3-4 year type player that a lot on here have been clamouring for. No one should anticipate that he'll be an immediate impact player. He likely won't pay dividends next season, but could be a key contributor in the future if he's willing to stick it out. In order to have those quality juniors and seniors we're wanting, you have to stick it out with them when they're freshmen and sophomores.

Cal recruits the best of the best and also is starting to find guys to make sure we have some good experience to go along with that. Not sure there's any better strategy out there in today's environment.

It felt to me that the guy we really needed was Johnson, an experienced college player, good history, and who could step in right away and contribute on both ends of the court. He is crazy to be waiting. Cameron, this is Kentucky that's offered you!!!! But, go ahead, wait and end up at some other half-ass program similar to Pitt versus the number one college program.

meh. good practice player i suppose. dont see anything that stands out.
I be going to differ, I think he will see anywhere from 8-10 mins a game depending on who we're playing and how he's playing. If he is hitting shots especially the 3 he will see plenty of time as we are thin at guard especially shooters, which u can never have too many. I don't care if he's ranked 150 if the guy can fill it up sign him up, plus he will be a 3-4 yr guy which we could use a few of those

Smith is better...and it's not close. Bigger, stronger, better passer, higher ceiling. Hoping he commits first and Johnson...Baker is third choice by a good bit

agree, from the very little i've seen (which did include baker making seven 3s in one game against compton high)

neither stands out as a run & jump athlete, but smith is much bigger, and appears to be more of a playmaker. should eventually be able to guard 3 positions, while baker will probably only be able to guard 1s

johnson could provide something next year. already shown he can at least make shots in a power conference. didn't guard shit at pitt, but he's a lot longer than baker

How many times do you see Baker dunk? Zero...because I don't think he can.....Smith otoh is somewhat explosive

He shot 34% from 3.
U got that stat from where? His hs or AAU. I watched him going head to head vs Duval in the underarmour league and when they showed his stats it was 41 percent in the league he made 94 threes in. Dude is one of the best three point shooters in the class.

doubt it unless green and/or shai is pretty bad. in which case who cares cause we got bigger issues. charles mathews played 10 mpg, averaged less than a bucket a game and we had no depth on that team.....and he transferred! the 2017 team could have more options depending how it shakes out.

but some want to believe that a guy in 8 mpg is going to walk on the court and fill it up....for 4 years. sounds good.

The staff and most recruiting analysts disagree with you. Baker is their choice over Smith.
Exactly there is a whole AAU game of his on another thread where he played pg vs duvals team he hit like 7or 8 threes out of 10 scored 34 while d-ing up on Duval and the other guard on duvals team. Seemed to hold his own just fine. Decent lateral quickness and a tight handle. He isn'Ant Lamb. But he isn't a slouch either reminded me of Mays alot maybe a better shooter than Mays tho. Walks onto the court his freshman year with the ability to contribute more as a backup than Polsun did as a senior. He is fearless and hungry. Going against Duval I saw nothing that indicated he was to slow to play d. Nah alot of opinions on here and I am guessing very few have sat and watched him play

Baker would be an EXCELLENT backup for Johnson or Diallo when they need a breather. Allows Cal to take Johnson out and still have an ASSASSIN on the floor. Not quite to Johnson's level as a FR, but as affective as we saw Mulder last year, IMO.

Baker would be an EXCELLENT multi year player and backup for this year's team, but without Bamba and Johnson, I don't see us as the team to beat from day one

Bam staying and losing Bamba would not hurt us nearly as much as losing out on Cameron Johnson at this point.

6'8" SF with 2 years experience starting in the ACC while shooting 42% from 3, 12 ppg, 82% FT, 4.5 rpg, and Pittsburgh's best defensive player last year. All things that Calipari wants to have to a tee in a player.

Would start at the 3 along with Diallo, Green, Bamba/Bam and PJ/Richards/Hump/WG.

Johnson as a JR = A much better college player than Briscoe as a JR. He is really that good.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always

I disagree I think most on here feel like the kid will be a backup and come in for spot min and maybe hit a couple of threes. As a freshman he will have lots of games he won't see the floor and then a few where he hits one or two threes. Nobody thinks he is going to take one minute away from Green, Alexander, or Diallo. But if u get 2 of those guys in foul trouble then he won't be a huge liability either. He was the main reason his team beat Duval in AAU. He scored 34.
