Jeff Brohm

And for those of you talking about the money UK could give him. Trust me myself and everyone else is aware that you all can pay a lot more then WKU. What I am saying is after talking with Brohm and talking with people that know Brohm. It isn't all about the money for him.

As for his assistants they come and go. That is the nature of college football. The only one that will probably stay a while is defensive coordinator Nick Holt. He turned down going to Louisville with Petrino to stay at WKU.

i'll chime in. As someone born and raised in Louisville who knows a little bit about this situation from all types of angles, Trinity, Petrino, UL Boosters, WKU boosters, but most importantly the family. Unless something incredible happened 0% chance Brohm comes to UK. You have to understand that he comes from a family that bleeds red, I mean bleeds it. And he himself falls into that category. He is not as connected with Howard as he is Petrino. He and Petrino are close. He was a part along with Bobby's brother Paul in most of those slapdick/smurf stuff stories that Petrino used to always talk about UK. Petrino brought Jeff to UL with him to coach Brian, and he left his job to follow Petrino back to Western when he went there. He is going to wait for the UL job or take a job that is way better than UK. That's just the facts.

Thanks for posting over here. I actually root for WKU as well and I'm very impressed with what WKU has done with their football program. You know Jeff and I don't. However....if Barnfart has any brain and decides to come at Brohm with a blank check after 2017 is completed, I think UK could have him. UK has all the tools in place except a competent coaching staff. If UK could get a coach like Brohm (should've hired Petrino) they'd have to expand Commonwealth. UK is stuck with Stoops for 16 and 17. The only way they yank Stoops is if the fans pull a Joker-esque boycott.

Having said that, I root for WKU as well and wish the Tops much success!

Guys, none of these coaches will come to Kentucky

Stoops utter failure at UK is going to be damaging. Coaches want a place where they have a chance to win. If we haven't cemented our rep before for being a school destined to suck ass at football forever, we certainly have now. No good coach will want a piece of this train wreck, so we might as well save the money and keep stoops. He sucks ass but he belongs here... With us. Our program and stoops are like two peas in a pod
Stoops failure is on Stoops.

It's possible to win at UK. We just need a proven coach.

You can no longer blame it on lack of support or facilities.

Yea and cal is so attached to Memphis, has it made, family has roots in city, has he best recruiting class coming in, doesn't need Kentucky, etc. we've all heard this before.

WKU can't offer what UK COULD. he would take it if the offer was right. Problem is, we've got the fart as out AD. save your breath, he's safe and sound where he is.

Yeah, we can offer him more of the mediocrity or worse than he can eat.

What about we do what worked in basketball and take the Memphis coach. Or is Mike Norvell out of our league now as well?

Strange...from someone"very close " to him I was told the opposite

well, i didn't hear that directly from Jeff obviously so who knows, but the people I talked to about it as recently as last night while watching cats sort of reiterated that to me. god knows I'd love to be wrong, I think he is one hell of a football mind.

Some of you guys need to check Frank Beamers record at Va Tech and look at his first 4-6 seasons.. He might be another one to see if he could be a consultant to Stoops in some way..Talk to him for advice just something to help get this ship on the right course. Bob Stoops should be able to help and I'm sure Mark has already talked to him a lot about being a head coach, but we need to see some results quickly.
Mark Stoops doesn't "take" advice. Have you ever seen him on TV? The guy's enamored with his own mind.

Brian Brohm would do very good with Barker,Juice,Baker,Richardson,Greenwood,Bone,Conrad,Riggs,Snell,Boom,Horten
Young,Jackson,AA,Stenberg,Leavitt,Stallings ect.. He would have a explosive offense IMO.

I am very suprised that stoops defense is that bad! I think our secondary and even LB are really good. No doubt stoops is a very good DB coach! But his dline coaching is very bad! Both sides of the line is very bad and that comes down to coaching! He may not have elite talent, but its no doubt in my mind our lineman have more talent than what is on display!
Brooks had good line play even when he was outclassed in talent. Mizz developes there guys very good!

Give me Brohm and Ansley as DC!

Herman will head to the NFL probably sooner rather than later.

The talking heads of ESPN are already pumping Herman up for every college program whose coach is on the hot seat (They are looking at you, Les Miles).

If Houston gets in the B12, I could see him staying their for some time. But I agree with you, I think his next stop is the NFL.

All coaches see one color - green. One of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in the south is Auburn and UGA. Vince Dooley played at Auburn and Pat Dye played at UGA. When the $'s get to a certain amount, loyalties go out the window.

If Brohm came to UK, I guarantee there would be no fiercest rivalry in Football than Brohm and Petrino. You can take that to the bank. Brohm is a Football Coach.

If Barnhart had any balls which he doesn't, he would fire Stoops and go after the Houston coach. Offer him 5 million or more to come here. Even then, he probably wouldn't come to this dumpster fire but I would pursue him anyway. If he did come to UK, there wouldn't be an empty seat at Commonwealth next fall, I can guarantee you that.
Herman must be waiting for Charlie to screw up and take the Texas job. But I agree, you have to make the call.

Brohm would certainly be a good second choice. But from what people say that know the family, he hates UK. I think Jurich has him stashed at WKU so he will have a replacement when BP leaves.

So let me get this straight. You fire stoops and then "make a call"? And then what? Twiddle your thumbs? And then when he turns us down because it's a pipe dream, then what do you do next? Hire another up and comer? Then the fan base starts yelling and whining about how Barnhart is an idiot and how he hired somebody instead of Herman and then "FIRE BARNHARDT"!

Guys, Herman ain't coming here! News flash, he's not sitting in Houston waiting on a job offer from Kentucky!!! Coaches that bring a program to this level don't want to rebuild Kentucky!! They want the next big school opening.

If stoops is fired, the next coach is gonna be along the same lines as stoops as far as experience goes. So you either stick with stoops, or start over with a new up and comer that was likely a coordinator at a previous job. If you even think a coach of Hermans ability would be a realistic option, you're fooling yourself.

The problem Uk has now is that being the coach at Uk is no longer a step up from coaching at WKU. Yes you're in the SEC but the best a coach can hope for is 4th place in the east (a relatively weak division compared to the west), while at WKU you can compete for a conference title every year. Truth of the matter is if Brohm remains successful plenty of programs better than Uk will come knocking.

Just curious, why would the Houston coach come here?

If Stoops is fired, MB's first call will be to Neal Brown.

Houston coach is building a power, Houston will probably be in the Big12 next season. Houston is now getting games in NFL stadiums and is building new facilities. Houston's coach will now be getting offers from NFL and top college powers.........nah, he'll take the Kentucky job, amazing what you read on here.
So you're saying there's a chance?

I don't doubt that would be his desire. He'd never do it though. It's like those old rumors that he wanted Mike Brey to be the next basketball coach. Never happen, I don't care how much he likes or admires either of them. The kind of pressure/scrutiny/backlash he'd face would be like a mountain falling on your head, and he knows it.

Sure Brohm will get other opportunities to coach elsewhere, and more prestigious jobs. Kentucky can pay as much as anyone. The big question would be if Brohm is interested in building his own program in a prestigious conference in a state he grew up in? I guess that would be the question.

Maybe so Mojo but I think people like Couch will really be pushing for Brown.

well, maybe that's different. I thought it was just Barnhart that liked Brown so much. All the talk about Brown being "suggested" to Stoops as OC.....makes more sense if it's more people than just MB, if it's Couch and a few others. Still. That would put Barnhart between a rock and a hard place if some crucial (moneyed) boosters were pushing for Brown - I still think the overwhelming reaction would be negative, and it would be fierce, and it would be quickly obvious. So much so that he just couldn't do it.

I agree with this 100%. I don't know Jeff Brohm or his family personally but I know a lot of people that do and they say he's as decent of a human being you'll find. He may not take the UK job (it probably won't ever even come to that) but he's a classy guy and he'd say and do the right things (unlike Petrino) if the day ever came. The Howard comment is totally correct as well. Howard's day has come and gone but he played at UK and I think he'd want what's best for both UK and Jeff Brohm. With all of that said Stoops would probably have to go winless this year and he'd still probably get year #5. Sad but true.

We should have hired Howard, the whole program would look different today.

Not a chance in hell he'd be interested. The Houston coach is at the top of the line to land a major powerhouse job the next time a major powerhouse position opens up. In the meantime, he's already got a better job offering an immensely better opportunity to win than here. Hell, Houston appears to have a good shot at making the national championship playoff this year. Nobody with a brain would cash in those chips for a dead end spot like UK football.

People need to be more realistic with their suggestions. It's just wasting time dreaming about A list candidates that would never come here.

That was amended and removed with his latest contract. Opening up the possibility for UofL to get him directly from WKU. Which WKU AD hopes will keep him here longer. Otherwise he would have had to go somewhere else and coach for 2 season before he could come back to UofL per his old contract.

Interesting words there............ you are also a UL fan arent you?

First, I said he probably wouldn't come to this dumpster fire. Second, if he turns UK down, you look at other candidates. All I know is Stoops isn't getting it done. But I do understand Barnhart doesn't have the intelligence to pick a football coach. He has proven that with his history of incompetence.

So you're saying Gerry Faust is still an option (sarcasm/sorry)
But yes... I agree with you about our AD.... who I think is a really good guy.
I the, really good guy business, he's a keeper (whoops, there I go again/sarcasm)

So we have a coach... Rich Brooks, who did pretty good, but really got nothing for the effort... No recruiting room, no stadium improvements, no state-of-the-art training/practice facility... All he got was pissed on and pissed off, because promises weren't kept (so the story goes)... NOW, apparently, we've come onto $$$$$ and built the stuff a winning coach wanted for a less than .500 guy...... WOW!!!! Look what Mitch has done!!! He's done all this improvement stuff... He must be the best AD ever!!!!! Bull hockey!!!! That's funny money from media and TV deals... Mitch been loosing fans faster than games... Who's the worst AD we ever had? I don't know .... But the best AD we've ever had, hasn't been here yet... The best AD is the one that gets this football program up to SEC standards and that ain't Mitch Barnhart!!!

UK better find a way, find a man, find MEN/plural.... If football is the cash cow most think it is, UK in t r o u b l e ...

Sometimes you gotta hit rock bottom they say....
WOW! I'll spend the rest of the evening trying to interptret this post.

I said he probably wouldn't be interested. Offer him a huge contract and if he turns it down, move on with the search.

Imagine that we had an opening in 2014. Let's say Stoops had decided to retire and join a monastery or something. Well, back then, we very well could have had a chance at Herman. At that time, Houston was solid, but not nearly as good as they are with Herman, and we would have been in a bidding war with a midmajor. And now the reality is, we wouldn't be able to get him; we have to hope that this regime succeeds, and, if not, try to get the next Herman.

Herman must be waiting for Charlie to screw up and take the Texas job. But I agree, you have to make the call.

I know someone (casual acquaintance) who knows Brohm personally, and he said Brohm was somewhat interested in the UK job when Stoops was hired, but he never got an invitation to interview!

He's doing a great job at WKU. UK needs a coach that can be creative and is actually organized. I doubt we could land Houstons coach but that would be my first stop. I like those two coaches.....any others that stand out? Maybe Appalachain States coach?
This may not be a popular stance in this discussion, but I think Stoops can and will succeed at UK!

What a moronic post. You are clueless.

enlighten me on my cluelessness
You kind of enlightened yourself when mentioned that UK was in the SEC. Power 5 vs. Midmajor. End of analysis as far as coaching jobs are concerned. Obviously, it doesn't mean that the Power 5 team wins a particular game against the Midmajor team.

Not to mention, $$$. As in, the SEC coach gets paid a lot of it. The C-USA, not so much. Well, it's much compared to my income, but I'm not a college coach.
