During the game, the announcer had said that in Bill Self’s 20 year career at Kansas, they’ve never been worse than a 4 seed. That’s truly remarkable. Unfortunately nowadays at Kentucky, we are thrilled with a 4 seed. But that’s 20 straight years of a team in contention every single year without 1 “bad” season. I know Self took some heat about only having 1 championship until last season. But it’s freaking hard to win championships (more so in college basketball than football). Players don’t have to play in college for 3 years.
But man, I’d just love to have that type of consistency

Self moved past Calipari as a coach a long time ago. That is why we focus on his hair. We have to find something to be critical.
Cal’s edge on everyone has always been star power. He’s quite possibly the best recruiter of all time, and he gets those lottery picks to play hard and selflessly (not always an easy thing to do). But as a game coach he’s probably at 75% of guys like Self, Wright, and K. So when his recruiting fell off, we got exactly what you’d expect - 75% of our rivals’ results.

Four Kansas basketball players have been linked to woman beating, sexual assault or assault and battery in recent years: LaGerald Vick, Carlton Bragg, Josh Jackson and Silvio DeSousa. There was a police investigation into a rape of a 15-year-old in the basketball dorm allegedly witnessed by several Kansas players. The number of shady recruitments under Self are off the charts.

Meanwhile, the NCAA RIGHT NOW says Self cheated and lied, and the entire program is charged with "loss of institutional control." The fact that the NCAA has forfeited the power to punish miscreants doesn't excuse grotesque cheating.

Never mind losses by Self in the tournament as a favorite to Bradley, Bucknell, Northern Iowa, VCU, Wichita State and blowing a 14 point lead with six minutes to go to Michigan.

Any Kentucky fan who wants a program like that is a disgrace.

And getting good seeds like Kansas does is how you win titles, make final fours, etc...

Self has 2 rings and 4 final fours.

If Cal would try to win at UK vs. end generational poverty....we'd had some better seeds and more final fours and probably more titles.

- Case in point, we are a 3 seed with Fox/Monk/Bam and have to play UNC in elite 8....don't blow so many early games and you're not in this spot.

But we come out of every season so poor and drop games in non conference we should not and this is why our seed lines are not often 1 seeds, etc...

The one positive I see is that Cal appears to have recaptured some of his old recruiting swagger with the 2023 class. If he can return to recruiting at that level consistently, then we may also return to performing at the highest level. If he can’t, then I think we’ll continue to tread water until he’s replaced.

Maybe....but hte chips are aligning for this lineup

PG - Dillingham (if he goes to college as rumors are swirling)
SG - Wagner/Shep....Frederick might be back
SF - Edwards/Frederick/Reeves might come back
PF - ????? Bradshaw....Collins maybe is back
C - Ugo/Ware/Bradshaw

So we'll have no beef in the paint with some talented guards/wings. Does stall ball Cal really look like we'll get it done with that lineup?

What we're seeing right now is a desire to have anyone, anything, even a ham sandwich, as coach of UK over Calipari. It's worse now in our fanbase than it was with Tubby, only because Tubby was black, so disgruntled fans had to be more cautious about their complaints for fear of looking "racist". With Cal - a white Italian dude from New Jersey, it's no holds barred - anything is on the table in any form or fashion. And we've seen it all here on Rafters for sure.

I'm frustrated with Calipari and feel the clock has expired, but I'm not going to sit here and clamor for a replacement coach like Self, Pitino or Beard, or one of these newbies that has yet to prove anything in the NCAAT, just because I want him gone yesterday. Nor will I berate him or his family in ways we've seen on Rafters (fatso, doesn't wear a suit because he's covering up his fat gut, go pet his dogs, must be Ellen, his daughters, bloated kneeler socialist, if he'd coach basketball instead of running around helping Kentuckians...you name it). About as far as I've gone is in-game frustration with calling Cal a moron or idiot for continuing to make the same mind boggling lineup and play calling decisions.

Just because Cal is showing very strong signs of being washed up and needing to retire, there's no need to insult the man or beg for a replacement that ethically is WAY worse than most coaches out there. I'm not willing to sacrifice class or the face of the program for wins by hiring a cheat, wife beater or prostitute pimp. Do we really want a proven cheater in Self, who as you said appears to be fine with recruiting thugs who beat and rape women? Do we seriously talk about entertaining hiring a fired fiancé choking domestic abuser in Beard? And then could we honestly live with ourselves for bringing back a 100 year old whore mongering Rick Pitino?

It's fine to be ready to see Cal move on and want new blood. But we all need to be very careful about the proverbial selling our soul to the devil. I can already see unrest brewing in the fanbase for a new coach we haven't even hired yet. No one can agree on the many lists of possible replacements. Drew, Mussellhead, Oates, Few, and then you get into the untouchables like Stevens, Wright, Donavan, and that ex-LA Lakers coach. But even worse, we have the Pearl, Self, Samson, Beard, and Pitino. Throw in any past UK player (can't believe someone recently pitched Travis Ford!!!). Hell, I've even seen people pitch out fired college coaches like Sean Miller (cheater, caught red-handed in a recorded call). Every time these lists are presented, fans argue and call each other idiots all throughout the discussion.

We'll eventually have a new coach, but it won't be fun around here unless that guy comes in and wins INSTANTLY. I feel for the new coach because the first three years are going to be miserable for the man and his family.

The thing that helps Kansas is their players stick around there forever. He gets to recruit and develop players for many years. K.J. Adams averaged 1 point a game playing 5 minutes a game last season. He scored 17 in 24 minutes against us Saturday. Meanwhile, we have our K.J. Adams type player scoring 20 a game as a soph. at Providence and leading his team to the Final Four at UCLA.

Ok , I dont follow recruiting that closely , I know where a guy ranks in his class but I dont watch HS hoops ... and I'd rather have Tabisco in my eyes than watch a useless hype video . So I've been hearing this hype about this hot shot class and than I see the above ands my first thought was " that lineup is OK but has glaring holes .. I mean serious issues .. ( Thanks for the list K-Time) ` but the small forward CAN NOT ( yes I'm screaming ) CJ or Reeves , both are too small and too frail ro help any at all rebounding . Honestly neither really scream " Final Four " level talent . Then we move on to Power forward and I see question marks ? I dont who Bradshaw is but he better be off the charts great because our 5 spot is no where near Final Four level talent .
I see a guard heavy lineup with nearly nothing at the 4 and 5 .. hell Collins may transfer ( ??) Didn't someone say " without a true 5 you are a fraud of a team " or something to that effect ? I really Ugo .. but he's raw as heck . And he has no backup . My entire point is the group was supposed to be the saving of Coach Cal .. man I dont see enough muscle there to be an ass kicking team . Good grief , we back to praying the portal provides missing pieces ? SMH .. sad .

I’d love a program that produces what they produce

I don't. With the right coach, we'd zip right by Kansas. Screw Self.

Self is currently the face of college basketball and rightfully so. The guy can coach, only a fool would deny it
I guess you 've forgotten that Self got caught cheating a few years ago. There is no way in the world that the NCAA will allow that guy to be the face of college basketball.

No shit ... I wish we could just compete enough to put ourselves in a realistic position to win. Like you say, there is no consistency ... certainly not the "type" of consistency BBN wants and deserves.

And neither Cal nor his followers GAF.

They care nothing about losing games we should win from Nov-Jan in hopes that Cal will pull a rabbit out of his fat a$$ in February and March.

Sick of how the UK program is being screwed over because of one egotistical maniac who has total control of a once proud program and his cult like followers who defend his every brain fart.

They'd rather bash players and blame them for losses than give Cal the heat he deserves

I cannot believe I am saying this, but this is the only time in the history of your posts that I can say that I 100% agree with you

What would our fans say if Calipari retired today and the school announced Bill Self would be taking over immediately?

KU doesn't get nearly as many one and done's as UK. Dick might be that this year, but before that I think Josh Jackson was the last one. KU still gets talent (mainly 4 star kids), but they don't have the option to go pro. Therefore as you mentioned they develop and get better and better. By the time they are juniors and seniors they are 21-22 years old who have been in the system for 3-4 years and know how to play the ball Self asks. I really think this is more of an effective formula. When was the last time a team won it all with mainly freshman and sophomores? Duke and Kentucky are somewhat in the same boat these days. Dominate recruiting, but don't have as much to show it (although Duke did have their Final Four last year)
