Is landing Knox the biggest recruiting Upset

I think so. I thought we would get Jones leading up to his announcement. I never felt good about Knox

It's kind of hard to call Upset, when the guy who just got the recruit is Coach Cal...and UK...

The fact that people didn't think Cal, that was fully focused of getting Knox, wasn't top 3 and had a good chance is the only mistake.

Cal has Green who everyone wants to play with.
Cal is known for getting players into NBA...
Cal has UK

He has put pieces of major advantage...so just because we somewhere during the process forgot about it, doesn't mean it was an upset.

been a 2 team race for a year now. cal is the best recruiter in the game. i know people are shocked because they just assumed we werent going to get him but its not that big of an upset.

I think many here, myself included, didn't feel we had much of a chance simply because of 247, and other "experts", were picking Puke or UNCheat.

We should all realize we do in fact have the best recruiter of all time here, and realize he will always have us contention for the elite recruits, year after year.

The conversation about Knox has been so all-over-the-place that I think Terrence Jones gets the nod on this question.

But . . . I'm sure glad Knox committed to the 'Cats ! ! !

I'd still have to go with Terrance Jones. I mean he did actually commit to another school and changed his mind minutes later.Hard to beat that for unexpected.

Jones came to mind instantly. Not only did he commit on national TV to another school but it was also a close to home school. I go with Jones.

Seems like alot of you dont remember the Jones recruitment. Its actually the opposite of what some of yall think. He was probably the biggest surprise that DIDNT commit to UK.

We had been tracking CJ Leslie and he was assumed a UK commit for a long time. Then we started heating up with Jones and Leslie picked NCST. After Jones commited to UW, UK had a glaring hole at the 4, people were freaking out and we were recruiting some BCG level contingency options (Luke Cothron, Kadeem Jack, Chris Hill).

The 4 spot was so wide open for Jones and Cal was all in on him. All signs pointed towards UK. Jones was sold on Cal and UK. And then he messed up. I was shocked, and can think of maybe 2 or 3 recruits I was more sure about coming here. It came out that same night that Jones didnt sign. It came out pretty early that Jones felt he had made a mistake. He drug it out til the end and quietly signed with UK as expected.

^That's how I remember the Jones commitment as well. We were all stunned when he picked Washington and Cal was, too.

Knox is a big shock to me. Duke has caught Cal in recruiting in recent years and were the heavy favorites by most of the "experts". 87% on 247 picked Duke, 13% picked UNC. No picks for UK. That's a huge upset for those analysts to miss by that much, especially with those three programs involved (you would figure that someone covering one of those teams would actually have a good source in the know). Hard to think of one that's even close to this that went in our favor, TBH.

Jamal Murray was a big surprise. Jones was a surprise in the way he ended up committing to us but most of the experts and our fans expected him to come to UK. This is the most surprising to me. The crystal ball had us at 4% earlier today. I don't remember it being that low for anyone who ended up here. I don't put much stock at all in the CB but it's not a bad way to gauge a recruitment.

Cal could coach at UC santa barbra and land the top recruiting class UK has ZERO to do with any of this from a recruits perspective.

Agree on Bam. Adidas kid who was supposed to be a locked up package to NCSU with Smith,

I remember the Bam recruitment very well. The reason that it wasn't as much of a surprise as this one was (to me) that it drug out for several weeks after he was supposed to commit to NCState (around Halloween IIRC). The longer it drug on, the more I questioned "What is he waiting for?". This one is a complete surprise but I still think the Jones switch from Washington to UK after picking Washington tops this. Surprised that he chose Washington and just complete disbelief that he switched after the choice.

With Johnson not committing last week and Cal staying in on Knox I was hoping he would come here. I remember on some sports interview last week, Knox was asked if he was in a boat with a space for one out of 5 coaches in the water who would he save, he said Cal. So you had to know he felt pretty strong about coming to Kentucky

Murray shocked me.Everyone was saying Oregon and that was the season kids were making dumb decisions like picking UNLV and Miss State over UK.I almost didn't watch the announcement I was so mad at him choosing Oregon. You never know.

Wrong. He wasn't recruiting at this level while at Memphis.
Wrong his 2010 class was the tip of the iceberg and had he stayed would have been one of the best of all time at that time. If recruits wanted us for the name on the front of their jersey well? Where have they been when we had tubby? BCG? Its ALL about the coach, every blue moon a recruit will say it was their dream to come here. We lose Cal and you will wonder why recruits wont be coming LIKE THIS.

Wrong again. It's a combination. Even Cal has said it. If you really think he would have had the #1 or #2 recruiting class every year like he has had at UK at Memphis as well then you keep living in your little world.

I got the Gomer feeling when I heard it,surprise, surprise, surprise. Shazaam!

That is just....well, I'll just say I strongly disagree. And CAL does too. (Have you heard him talk about this topic 1 million times?)

I agree completely. It is the perfect storm similar to what Rick had going when he decided to move to the Celtics. When he returned to Louisville he has been very successful but not nearly what he could have done at UK. I think Cal is smart enough to understand this and will ride this horse a long time.
