Is it time to be concerned about Liam Coen returning next year?

I won’t worry about it until I see the 5th thread on this board speculating about it!!

Oops!

It could happen. Hell, within 3 more ears at this rate half of the whole damn NFL coaches will be McVay protégés.

If Coen leaves, Stoops will find another McVay assistant, if he wants one.

Heck, Coen’s kid turns one-year-old . . . . half-a-million fills a lot of sippy cups!!

If it happens, it happens … that’s the life of a college football assistant coach. Sure, it will suck and we already have holes to fill but assistant coaches aren’t like the big dog normally, in reality if a coordinator is successful they will be up for a bigger school with more money to offer or a head coaching job in 2-3 years max. I hope we keep him at least another year but I trust stoops to find a great backfill

Was hoping to get at least 2 years out of him damn.

Who wants to go be OC for an OC that’s getting a HC and has never called his own plays. The NFL has become obsessed with these god forsaken “coaching trees”

I’m convinced if Sean McVay shit out a turd wide enough to put a headset on it some team out there would hire it.

You just answered your own question.

Nah, a lot of people who have talked with Coen or know Coen have discussed what a rising star he is. We knew when Stoops hired him that he wasn't going to be here long. I felt from day one, he was a two year max type of guy.
Well, one year max now. Losing all our assistants. Gotta replace numerous ones now. Fun. I understand it comes with success.

Stoops has to be pulling what hair he has left out. The carousel has been way worse for UK than normal.

When you hire a guy like coen, who comes from a successful system and is young and very good at what he does, people are going to come calling. It comes down to money.

If you're into that kind of thing, like many are here, you don't need to wait any time at all to start worrying. You can jump straight from "X sucks as a coach" or "he hasn't done anything yet" right into "we're completely screwed if X leaves" and/or "we'll never be good again."

So go right on. Worry. It sure is the best thing for you and has a dramatic affect on how things turn out in the end. You just might "worry us" right into an SEC OR national championship if you do it really really hard.

Excellent visual rendering. I can't unimagine ANY of that now, thank you. Lmao

While others thought Stoops was crazy for hiring him.

The good thing is, when Coen does go, Stoops has seen the light around how important offense is. Imo, he will make future hires with Coen’s offense in mind.
That is true. I think we’re going to get OC that runs the ball from under center and no more read option at the Qb spot

Just from the outside looking in, it seemed like everyone involved knew this was two years max. UK was just his move to leapfrog the normal wait in line. Fans should've known that. I remember posting after the first game that we need to enjoy him while we have him. When that much talent and that much ambition align, it's just how it is; regardless of industry.

Jmo but we have only two things working for us in this situation:

1) he told Levis he was coming back. The Levis interview with his local paper indicated he was coming back if coen was. Not long after, Levis announced his return.

2) neither of these open positions would have him calling the plays. He's already part of the McVey tree so there might be more career value in him waiting for a ln oc job where's the playcaller

Either the primary OC and signal caller for a defensive minded NFL coach or a college head coaching job.

I don’t believe so but being the LA OC puts him on the short list to be a HC in the next 2 years.
Yep. It doesn’t matter if he’s calling plays or not in LA. Other NFL franchises hire their OCs to be head coaches. This will be what the third in four years? It’s probably the most desirable offensive assistant spot in football.

All y'all acting like it's a done deal crack me up.

Noone is saying it's a done deal. What people are saying is 1) there are two NFL oc openings with head coaches where'd he'd be a very very easy fit and 2) if it isn't this one or this year, it's unfortunately soon.

That's why months ago I thought Woodward was really important to hold on to. Imo that's a long shot because he'll probably go with coen, but it's also a good sign he's on the road recruiting. Keeping him would take the sting out.

I was laughed at when I said Coen should be considered as our next coach if Stoops left for the then open LSU job. Rams assistant coaches are the most sought after coaches in football right now. Hopefully we get him at least until the end of next season. Super great hire by Stoops. Coen is on a fast track as a college head coach or NFL OC.

I’m guessing Rams don’t work to fill this role until after Super Bowl?
