Andrew Carr and Otega Oweh really powered Kentucky offensively in the first half and Amari Williams did a lot of good work on the glass. It wasn't a great start for Kentucky but they were persistent and didn't have extended breakdowns on defense. Oweh continued through the second half at a high level and had a great all around game.
The big difference was in FG% which spoke to shot quality and ball movement. UK shot 50% compared to Troy's 33% in the 1H, accounting for the 8-point halftime advantage.
Kentucky played loose tonight. Didn't look tight or nervous at almost any point in the game in my opinion.
In the second half Brandon Garrison really did some good things. He and Collin Chandler will be big pieces moving forward into next year and maybe the rest of the tournament.
Kentucky capitalized off Troy turnovers, turning them into points, and while they didn't dominate the glass they also didn't give up way too many offensive rebounds. Troy needed more than they got. UK hit a flurry of threes relatively early in the second half and that pushed the lead to 20.
Butler and Amari have to finish the good looks and close looks with more consistency.
Great start to the tournament for Kentucky, taking care of business like you would want to see. Important win for the fan base, Mark Pope's first NCAA Tournament win.
